Habs Weekly Junior School edition Friday 17 June 2022 Summer Term

Head of Junior School’s Message Mrs L Flynn In last week’s newsletter, I talked of the opportunities this half term affords us to celebrate all that has been achieved within our community this year, whilst also preparing for the new academic year. This half term also sees us saying our farewells to pupils and staff who will be leaving the school and welcoming in new faces who will join us from September. At the end of this term, we will say goodbye to Mr Hobley, Mrs Hunt and Miss Neminathan. Mrs Hunt and Miss Neminathan have worked together in Year 1 this year, joining us in September. Mrs Hunt leaves us for a school more local to her home and Miss Neminathan is embarking on her university studies at Warwick University, we wish them both well in their new adventures. Mr Hobley will be retiring from teaching this summer. A member of the Junior School team for more than 20 years, Mr Hobley has dedicated much of his career to the school. Through his calm, patient, and positive manner with pupils he has inspired generations of Habs Girls to fall in love with maths, science and of course, football. He will be missed by the entire community, but we wish him and his family all the best in his retirement. Mrs Ciucan, who has been training as a teacher with us this year, will be joining the staff full time as a class teacher in September. We also welcome Ms Bry to the class teaching team; although she accepted a post as an LSA in Year 1 last year, she is in fact a fully qualified teacher, we are delighted to be able to welcome her as a class teacher. Mrs Tiller will be joining us as an LSA from September. Following a period as Deputy Head (Academic) Mr Bloch has decided his passion lies in classroom teaching and will be stepping onto the class teaching team from September. Ms Lansdown will be stepping into the role of Deputy Head (Academic) from September. We also welcome Mrs Karaolou as office manager. I look forward to welcoming you into school on Tuesday 21 June.

Cornflower Assembly 10 June

Friday afternoon assemblies are always a time of joy and celebration in the Junior School. Our weekly Cornflower Assembly celebrates individuals who have particularly demonstrated ways in which they have embodied our school values: Courage, Curiosity, Community and Ambition. Without fail, the pupils in our school community celebrate the successes of their peers, as well as take time to reflect on the ways in which they have, themselves, taken risks, wondered why, supported others and aimed high. We all love Cornflower Assemblies, and hope that you enjoy celebrating weekly with us too.

Ambition

Community

We set our sights high in terms of what we want to achieve as individuals and as a community, in and outside the classroom, aspiring to achieve our full potential in whatever we put our minds to.

Since we were founded, we have had an inherent responsibility to our diverse internal and wider community and continue to dedicate ourselves to nurturing it and supporting each other to be our best selves.

Courage

Curiosity

We believe in the courage to face challenge, embrace opportunity and step out of our comfort zones to grow and become our best selves, whilst also having courage in our conviction, remaining true to our moral compass and what we believe is the right thing to do.

In a diverse world, we believe that growth comes from not standing still. We are driven by an unending desire to learn and improve, not standing still and having an open and enquiring mind to anything we face.

Sport Year 6 Rounders Match v NLCS On Wednesday 15 of June Habs played against North London Collegiate School, we put five teams forward and each team played immensely well. We each had our 10-minute turns to bat and field. Some matches were very strategic and competitive. Although one out of the five teams lost, all students thoroughly enjoyed the games.
