Habs Weekly Junior School edition Friday 6 May 2022 Summer Term
Head of Junior School’s Message Mrs L Flynn
Over the coming weeks pupils in Years 3 to 6 will embark on their residential trips. We are thrilled that this will be our first full summer residential program since 2019 and the pandemic. Residential trips are, of course, hugely enjoyable for our pupils and are a cause of great excitement in the build-up to departure. But they also form a critical part of the curriculum and development of key skills. Through a residential trip, each of our school values is developed and as teachers, we are frequently given the feedback ‘my child has become a different person since the residential’ which is music to our ears. We actively encourage our pupils to be courageous by stepping out of their comfort zones and curious as they explore unfamiliar locations and dive into new experiences. They become a tightknit community, developing their teamwork skills and ambitious as they aspire to reach their full potential. Next week sees Year 5 head to Skern Lodge in Devon, followed in the coming weeks by Year 4 and Year 6 travelling to Norfolk and Year 3 participating in an overnight camping experience on the school grounds. We wish them all safe and enjoyable travels and look forward to hearing their many tales and memories made on their return.

Cornflower Assembly Friday 6 May
Friday afternoon assemblies are always a time of joy and celebration in the Junior School. Our weekly Cornflower Assembly celebrates individuals who have particularly demonstrated ways in which they have embodied our school values: Courage, Curiosity, Community and Ambition. Without fail, the pupils in our school community celebrate the successes of their peers, as well as take time to reflect on the ways in which they have, themselves, taken risks, wondered why, supported others and aimed high. We all love Cornflower Assemblies, and hope that you enjoy celebrating weekly with us too.
Ambition We set our sights high in terms of what we want to achieve as individuals and as a community, in and outside the classroom, aspiring to achieve our full potential in whatever we put our minds to. Talia (Rainbow Blue) Izabella (Rainbow Red) Bela (2 Alpha) Anika (3 Alpha) Sasha (4 Aesc)
Courage We believe in the courage to face challenge, embrace opportunity and step out of our comfort zones to grow and become our best selves, whilst also having courage in our conviction, remaining true to our moral compass and what we believe is the right thing to do. Anvi (Rainbow Yellow) Amarachi (Rainbow Yellow) Noor (1 Purple) Mira (3A) Anna-Maria (4 Aleph) Mahi (6 Aesc)
Community Since we were founded, we have had an inherent responsibility to our diverse internal and wider community and continue to dedicate ourselves to nurturing it and supporting each other to be our best selves. Demeera (5 Aesc) Scarlett J (6 Aleph)
Curiosity In a diverse world, we believe that growth comes from not standing still. We are driven by an unending desire to learn and improve, not standing still and having an open and enquiring mind to anything we face. Laila (5 Aleph) Melina (1 Orange) Miranda (2A) Mahi (6 Aleph)
Music Year 2 instrumental demo Year 2 had a wonderful time at our instrumental demo session last week. Our wonderful team of visiting Music teachers and some of our very own Habs pupils performed to Year 2 with a variety of instruments. Pupils learnt about each instrument and how a sound is made; they left very excited to choose an instrument to start learning in Year 3!
School Community Pupil raises money for charity
Well done to Soha (Rainbow Blue) who has been creating and selling her own hair clips at her local fayres! She did a fantastic job of selling her products as well as explaining to those who asked the process of creating the hairclips, packaging them and counting change. All profits made by Soha will go to charity.
Sport Football fixture On Friday 29 April Habs Junior School footballers played St Marys primary school in a league match. It was a closely fought match between two very determined sides. Although 3 – 0 down at half time the Habs footballers dug in deep and played some great football to draw the second half 0 – 0. Congratulations to both teams on producing a high quality and most sporting football match.
U11 Gymnastics Haberdashers Under 11 gymnasts competed in the Floor and Vault BSGA National Finals on Saturday 30 April. Each school competing in the finals had won their regional round, so it was going to be a fantastic competition. All five gymnasts in each team competed a vault and an individual floor routine to music, the scores were added together to create a team total. Our gymnasts produced neat and polished routines and strong vaults. Our total put us fifth in the rankings. Well done to Jessie (6 Aesc), Zoe (6 Aesc), Annika (6 Aleph), Sienna (5 Aleph) and Sky (5 Aleph)!
