Staff travel School coach services: home journey Summer 2022

Staff travel is provided on the basis that you are still on duty. Whilst we have Coach Stewards on the service, staff are still expected to contribute to the safe operation of the service in exchange for their ticket.

Rules • Your coach ticket is issued to you subject to availability. If the coach arrives and there is not ample space for you, or a student boards at a later stop and they need your seat, you will need to find alternative transport to school. If we receive further bookings for your route your ticket may be recalled in which case, you will be notified • If you no longer need your ticket, please let me know so that I can release the seat for bookings • You must be alert to what is going on around you, so wearing headphones or snoozing is not permitted • You are there to assist with the smooth running and safety of the journey including: • ensuring seat belts are on throughout the journey and pupils always remain seated whilst the coach is in motion • ensuring luggage is stowed safely within the cabin and not in the aisle • maintaining school standards of behaviour, including loud or inappropriate conversations, and swearing. If you would tackle it in school, you should tackle it on the coach • escorting students to/from a stop if the coach is unable to stop at the scheduled stopping place • care of students if there is a delay to, or redirection of, the coach due to incidents on route

• In an emergency you will be responsible for operating one of the emergency exits. • Please ensure that you know where the emergency exits are on the vehicle and how to operate them (typically handle or hammer for the glass) • The driver will operate the front emergency exit(s), so you will be required to operate the mid or rear exits which can be doors or windows. • You should choose a seat near to the emergency exit and not the front row • If there is more than one staff member on the coach, you should avoid sitting together. Staff should sit throughout the cabin so that you can effectively monitor safety and behaviour standards • Unless there is immediate danger you must consult with the driver before taking any action • Do not alight passengers from the vehicle without consulting the driver first. Alighted passengers are your responsibility. You must supervise them at all times • The fold-down seat next to the driver (known as the crew seat) must not be used by Habs staff or students under any circumstances. This is a crew seat for the coach company staff only • Staff are expected follow the same rules as the students as set out in the Coach Code of Conduct which can be found on the school website • If there are continued behavioural issues on the route on which you regularly travel your ticket may be revoked and you will be responsible for arranging your own transport to and from school.
