Other interests I have been on the committee for Design for Development (formerly an Article 25 Student Chapter) at University of Edinburgh for 2 years. I have rich experience in organising fundraising events and seminars, including a 20x20 Art Auction (Dec 2012) in which we raised nearly ÂŁ1000 towards a school rebuilding project in Haiti run by Article 25. As a keen musician and singer, I also play the piano, guitar and sing in band regularly. Technical and character references available on request.

RISK OF INTERNET DISCONNECTION Renesys, who first speculated the Syrian government’s role in the Syrian Internet Outrage in 2012, has been analysing each country’s risk of losing Internet access due to political control. The most vulnerable nations have their Internet controlled by a single point which is usually a state agency. For more please read Hesseldahl, A. (2017). This thesis searches for new relationship between digital data and the city. It explores the possibility of storing data within downtown of Hong Kong and argues that data centres can be in cities.
1
Digital connectivity is Now so pervasive and accessible to us that their physical existence is not our main consideration. The supporting infrastructure, namely data centres, are built in remote places and away from end-users, capitalising on cheap land cost and proximity to power source. There is no distance or speed concern, they say, because of fibre optics.

As a result the Internet is stored in megasize sheds in places where cheap land and power is available. Hong Kong data centres likewise occupy much land which could otherwise be developed for other usage. Meanwhile these are rarely accessed by human and contain mostly empty spaces for cooling. By disaggregating its mass and spreading the structure out it is possible to dissolve the facility into the urban fabric. The thesis proposes an alternative approach to storing the machines so that valuable land can be restored for other purposes.

YURIAGE AFTER | JAN - |JUNESep 2016- Dec|2015 ACADEMIC DRAWING Des Voeux RoadTOHOKU and the Public Realm | MArch 1PROJECT Studio
Arata Isozaki has always been intrigued and haunted by the ruin quality of Hiroshima. He suggested that ruins embody the power to disrupt the otherwise linear, uni-directional movement of time. In the wake of the 3-11 Japan Tohoku earthquake and the subsequent nuclear disaster, a somewhat similar atmosphere to the 1945 Hiroshima has been created. Photographer Arkadiusz Podniesinski has captured some of these moments which have inspired this drawing here.* They feature streets as well as interiors of homes that were abandoned in a hurry. These chaotic elements would now become a permanent feature of the Hiroshima landscape. In this drawing I tried to represent Yuriage, a town almost wiped out in the incident, as a collage of scenes, at the micro (human) scale to macro (urban) scale, of different times: before the tsunami, immediately after, and the present (2016), as some restoration works have begun. Credits: Thomas Tsang (Lecturer)

The studio builds upon previous research by Jason Carlow and Christian J Lange, entitled Cities of Repetition. South Horizons on Ap Lei Chau has been thoroughly researched and studies were done to explore possible alternatives for high-density private housing which steps away from the usual tower-podium typology. In the new design using a branching language, public spaces disperse horizontally and vertically, blurring the dichotomy of podium and towers. This studio looked at Zaha Hadid’s unbuilt The Peak Leisure Club competition entry (1983). “If you look into collections of competition proposals at the time, it could be obvious that the year between 1982 and 1983 was a period of a paradigm shift in the world of architecture.” -- Kazuhiro Kojima (2016), studio brief Throughout the 4 months, we have studied Zaha’s The Peak, where she came from, where she intended to go and the wider context in 1983 that drove her scheme, and pushed further, revisited, or re-constructed her subjects of interest in a proposal in our time 2016. As a studio we would like to pay tribute to both Professor Kazuhiro Kojima and Dame Zaha Hadid, both unfortunately passed away this year at the height of their careers, yet leaving behind a legacy remarkably rich for the field.

Many are looking at Hadid’s project in terms of its building mass and formal quality, but my work looked at how she used the void in her project to reorganise the spaces in her club to create a new hierarchy. How can this hierarchy of spaces be further broken down in 2016? How else can we use the void to organise activities? This project is a part of the Pedestrianising Des Voeux Road Central (DVRC) proposal in collaboration with Columbia University. The former Central Market lies near the midpoint of Des Voeux Road Central. The project provides an opportunity to reimagine the market with conservation as a design driver. Conceptually, this proposal is conceived as a subtraction rather than an addition of space, producing an architectural language that is suited to this particular scale. How do we encourage performance in the public realm? Is it possible to turn private activities into theatrical spectacles on the street through architecture? Through analysis of these performance spaces in Edinburgh, the production of piano is highlighted in this project because it involves manufacturing and lifting heavy components such as the piano rim and the cast-iron plate. At the same time it requires careful and delicate workmanship. At the public piano workshop, the spaces are permeated with performances carefully framed by the building itself. I worked at Fletcher Joseph Associates in Edinburgh for a year in 20142015. Fletcher Joseph is a small firm based in Edinburgh with 10 full-time staff, busy with a range of projects at various working stages across Scotland, including urban redevelopement masterplans, student accommodations, hotels and zoo facilities.
During the placement I mainly helped with the new 450-bed Heriot Watt Student Residences. The 12 months saw the project going from feasibility stage through to starting on site. I helped with the major planning application, the 3D modelling and visualisations and various construction drawings.

I was also involved in other adaptation projects which include the conversion of a B-listed building in Aberdeen, Scoatland into a ten-storey aparthotel, and an old flour mill in Glasgow into a 504-bed student accommodation. Credits: Fletcher Joseph Associates
