Transient Space
Atlanta Beltline, Georgia
Ponce De Leon
North Ave.
Located at the eastern part of the Atlanta BeltLine, the site greatly evokes the sense of being enclosed compared to the rest of the northeastern corridor. Throughout the corridor, the sense of enclosure varies at different points and in turn provides different experiences. After analyzing my site and the larger trail,
I formulated a design concept combining different levels of enclosure with a general module/form based on the different enclosures throughout the BeltLine. The design is further enhanced by making the module conform to the postures of the activities in the program. This way, the form gradually changes to accommodate each activity, thus creating a junction among space, movement and events of the site and overall BeltLine.

The site location expresses a number of constraints as it relates to city ordinances. As a result, the design responds to the neighboring residential area by allowing an adequate setback from property lines and separation zones from the industrial area of the Beltline. The design also takes into consideration the trail right-of-way allowing for an uninterrupted flow of pedestrians and cyclists.

There are nine (9) primary programmatic zones of the design each of which is derived from the analysis results. These zones are as follows: Bicycle, Social Seating, Art Display, Relaxed Seating, Children Play, Eating, Vending, Restroom. The zones are positioned in a relationship that best suits both the transient pedestrian and cyclist. The modules are made of finished Cypress and Steel ribs in order to withstand the harsh elements simultaneously providing a pleasing aesthetic.
Physical Model
Its tectonics are based on a bolt system the can be easily taken apart; allowing for maximum reconfiguration and transportation. As one moves along the trail they are exposed to an experience expressing that of which is similar to the existing trail with the addition of accommodation for a multiplicity of activities.

Clarance Brown (Foley Artist) & Julia Brown (Homemaker) Independent Children: Paul, Robert, Francine “As a professional, I am a Foley Artist; in other words I recreate sound effects for films. I’m extremely enthused with my job. I use many different kinds of props: car fenders, plates, glass, bolts, and just about anything I can get my hands on. This job entails that I work both at home and in my office studio, when at home I do a lot of research in finding new ways to recreate unique sounds then experiment and record them in the studio while they playback video scenes. The job requires the ability to concentrate on sounds and have a keen sense of what each sound can be used for.” Clients
Design Concept: As we move through Old Forth Ward, the diverse community provides a multiplicity of experiences as we move from one area to the next. This experience is transferred from the macro context of the site to the micro revealing an experience recreated through the design of the Brown residence. Utilizing the predominant edge condition of the existing site, multiple experiences are created as we move through and interact with this edge condition.

How
From observing the site and its neighboring area, I witnessed the diversity in events which occurs in the area and the reactions which resulted. These reactions that occur within the public realm are unique and constantly changing. This design proposes a multiplicity of configurations which reacts to human and natural conditions. As people move through the site pole-like fins detect motion and gradually bend towards them. Depending on the temperature the fins expand and contract to adjust the shade as necessary. As a resultant of noise, they all sway displaying the magnitude of activity in the area.

Urban Artifact
Atlanta Central Public Library
Thesis Statement
As a city develops, the layers of its past are often veiled by the advent of modern structures. Obliterating the historic can create disconnect amongst society and its built environment. By integrating the historic with the contemporary through a fluid coexistence, the modern exemplifies the historic as an Urban Artifact, thus giving value to both elements.
The Artifact - Atlanta Central Library was completed in 1980 and was the last building to be designed by Bauhausmovement architect Marcel Breuer. The building was designed in the brutalist

Lumo-Cryptograph - Design Build [Lu-moe-krip-tuh-graf]
An Apparatus to Decipher Light - The Lumo-Cryptograph uses light as its primary activator to project into a given space. Light passes through a series of focusing lenses which is then filtered by disturbed surface lenses, after which is refracted and projected in to space mapping an augmented layer of light within space. The second phase of opperation captures distorted light images throught the disurbed surface lenses and is recorded on a mobile recording device and wirelessly transfered as a live digital image feed.

Phase 1 (Light Mapping)
Hot Air
Lens Fabrication Process In attempt to manipulate light, an algorithm was curated to disturb surfaces at variying intensities using the parametric concept of a ripple. A series of nine light lenses were fabricated through a process of CNC routing a mold after which is vaccum formed to create a cavity then casted with clear epoxy. Each lens has a unique augmentation of light as it passes through.

University District Development
City of Marietta Proposal
With the approval of the Marietta University Enhancement District Livable Centers Initiative (MU2LCI), the city of Marietta presented the need for the planning and development of the new University District. The fundamental aspects of the development needs to address transportation, land use, economic development, and community design issues for the surrounding two universies (SPSU and Life). The study and implementation area extends from the intersection of S. Marietta and Cobb Parkway down to Life University. The area includes Cobb Community Transit (CCT) as well as Southern Polytechnic and Life University. The metodology of the redevelopment involves extensive public involvement efforts and interdeciplinary collaboration on multiple levels.

A living Machine
This series of interpretive models interrogates the spatialdimension of feeling and dwelling in Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo’s House-Studio. The rationalist building, inspired by Le Corbusier, has been characterized as a factory, a Machine for Living for its exposed industrialized, mechanical and electrical systems. The design dissects the spatial reading of lives of the housestudio inhabitants by cataloging five scenarios: inspiring momentsof creation and happiness; longing moments of desire and affection; struggling moments of tension and pain; constrained moments of isolation, limitation and reflection; and broken moments of separation, destruction and distance. Beyond a machine, each interpretive model deconstructs the shell of the house-studio to map, analyze and reconstruct the invisible structure of the occupants’ living plots and events. Each machine, as an apparatus, consists of interrelated parts and a mechanism to transmit its inhabitants’ motions and emotions. In essence, the assembly of each machine embodies the rhythm of the two artists’ complex relation, and echoes the housestudio inhabitants’ narrative.
