Safety First TIPS TO FOLLOW FOR USING LADDERS SAFELY Look up and be aware! Fall is the time you start thinking about sprucing up your house and yard. Ladders are one of the first tools you may reach for, but they can be dangerous if not used safely. Here are some tips to help keep you safe while using a ladder this fall: • Aluminum ladders are the number one tool involved in electrocutions around the house. • Ladders are excellent conductors of electricity and a serious hazard around overhead power lines. All ladders can conduct electricity when wet or dirty. • When planning to use a ladder around the house, remember to look up for power lines. • Never attempt to trim trees around power lines by yourself. • Always keep your ladder at least three metres away from a power line. Look up and be aware!

If you see trees close to our power lines, we want to know so we can investigate and provide proper and safe maintenance. Call us or email us directly at treetrim@hchydro.ca for more information.
