If you’re noticing peculiar electrical activity in your home, you should have your wiring inspected immediately. Learn the warning signs of dangerous wiring conditions and hazardous outlets to prevent shocking consequences.

Signs of electrical hazards might include: • Dimming or flickering lights • Feeling a buzz when you touch an appliance • Crackling, sizzling or buzzing from wall switches or outlets • Burning smell from an appliance or wiring • Discolouration of wall outlets • Warm or hot outlets
• Frequently blown fuses • Tripped circuit breakers • Rodent damage • Damaged or worn insulation • Dead outlets or switches • Sparking outlets or loose plugs • Do-it-yourself wiring
If any of these signs are apparent in your home, unplug cords to these outlets and have your wiring checked right away.

In an ongoing effort to create awareness on electrical consumption and promote conservation, schools throughout the Grand Erie District School Board were provided with power plug meters by their local utility.
