Safety First Think ahead to stay safe during winter power outages.

Most power outages are over before you can find the flashlight. Is your home prepared, though, for a long-term winter outage? Advance planning is key to keep your family warm and safe.

Stay Warm

Stay Safe

Does your home have a safe heating source that doesn’t require electricity to function?

Downed power lines are a very common occurrence during power outages and winter storms.

If not, have a plan in place so you know what to do in the event of a long-term outage. Protect your family from the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning and fire by ensuring: • Heating sources are properly vented. • Chimneys for wood-burning fireplaces and stoves have been cleaned in the last year. • Carbon monoxide detectors have a battery-powered back-up.

If you see a downed line: • DO NOT GO NEAR THEM. Call Haldimand County Hydro immediately. • Avoid all contact with the line or anything that it may be in contact with such as tree limbs, fence lines or vehicles. • Call 911 as it may be in a position to pose a threat to others.

Help is on the Way We recognize the concern caused by a power outage. Keep in mind: • When the power goes out, all our efforts are focused on restoring your service safely and as quickly as possible. • There are 1,665 kilometers of distribution lines in Haldimand County, representing the second largest service territory in Ontario (1,252 square kilometers). • Emergency Assistance from other electrical utilities and/or contractors can be called upon.

Report the Outage If your power goes out, let us know. Report all power outages by calling our 24/7 Emergency Line at 1-877-872-2570 or by using our NEW mobile app (access it by visiting www.haldimandcountyhydro.ca on your mobile device).
