fall 2014

We’re still here to serve you! A busy summer is coming to end and the cooler weather of fall is approaching. With this in mind, we thought we’d take a few minutes to provide an update on our work across Haldimand County. We’ve been hearing from some of our customers that our sale to Hydro One Inc. has been completed. This is not the case. The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) still needs to provide final approval of the sale and Haldimand County Hydro is working together with Hydro One Inc. to make the transition as smooth as possible. Until the sale is completed, we will continue to work diligently to serve you. We promise to keep you informed on the progress and invite you to visit our website to follow our application with the OEB. In 2014, we are investing $6.6-million in reliability and system improvements throughout our service territory. You may have seen us working in your community as we complete projects in Caledonia, Cayuga, the former township of Oneida, Fisherville, Lakeshore Road West of Kohler Road; parts of Dunnville and the Village of York. Our most recent cost of service application was approved in early 2014. The approved application resulted in an 8.7 per cent decrease in the monthly delivery charge component of a typical Residential customer bill and a 7.0 per cent decrease for a typical General Service Less Than 50 kW customer’s bill. We are pleased to provide alternative ways customers can reach us. Don’t hesitate to call us during regular business hours or visit us on the web, or follow us on Twitter(@hchydro) and download our mobile app for current updates on outages, electrical safety, conservation programs and tips, corporate news and more. Earlier this summer, Haldimand County Hydro released its 2013 Annual Report. The Report highlights a number of 2013’s success stories, including: • Haldimand County Hydro received 100% compliance in an audit by the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) • Provided safety education to more than 2,200 students • Restored power to 15,000 customers in less than 36 hours during 2013 Ice Storm • Provided up to $650 in saveONenergyOM HEATING AND COOLING Incentives conservation program to over 350 customers • Completion of $4.3-million in capital expenditures

fall 2014 Working with Tomorrow’s Leaders Haldimand County Hydro is helping local students become tomorrow’s leaders through participation in programs that offer opportunities for hands-on experience. Haldimand County Hydro continued its School Safety Program in 2014, as four groups of local elementary school students took part in a 45-minute program that provided tips on electrical safety and conservation. The School Safety Program will visit two more area schools as school resumes in the fall. Our work with students continued this summer as college and university students gained valuable work experience alongside Haldimand County Hydro employees through our Summer Student Employment and co-op training opportunities. All students, in addition to gaining real-world experience, take part in an extensive safety training program as part of their summer orientation. Haldimand County Hydro will continue to offer these programs moving forward while continuing to serve our communities. Our commitment to future generations remains an integral part of our operations.

Supporting the Community

Haldimand County Hydro staff raised $2,650 through a silent auction at our annual Health and Safety Day in June. A total of $1,800 of the money went to supply healthy snacks to deserving children in July and August through a program at the Dunnville Food Bank. The food bank program serves approximately 160 children each week. The remaining funds were used to assemble

For the past two summers, money raised through the annual Health and Safety Day has also been used to send children to Salvation Army Adventure Camp. Haldimand County Hydro staff also support the five local food banks through donations made during the holiday season.
