Comparison of Architectural Projects and Composition Study

Character Design The illustration was made for the company calendar’s title page 2016, known as the monkey year according to Chinese lunar calendar. An imitation of Kingkong’s classic scene where he battled a Curtiss F8C Helldiver airplane on top of the Empire State Building was a contemporary interpretation of the connection between architecture (a prize-winning design from the company) and monkey.

Somewhere in Time - Color Pencil Sketch 2015

Sketchs of the Leading Figure Inspired by the movie Hugo and the Japanese animation film Whisper of the Heart, this sketch was to catch the mysterious and nostalgic atmosphere at a whimsical antique shop, piled up with items from the past which represent an old world charm. Some of my personal items were hidden among the handcrafts to add an individualised voice here.

Responsive Design of Mobile Version

Final Submission of Design

The project was to re-design the company’s website conforming to its CI with contemporary navigating responsive functions. The site architecture and visual layout were designed by me and another colleague Geert Folmer. Later our design was passed to a French studio for programming. I was also responsible for technical communication, cost control and overall project supervision.

Theme of the Year 2017 and Opening Ceremony

Video Shooting in China

“Ampelphase“ is a high-profile public exhibition held by Vitra very two years in Frankfurt. The showroom is located at a busy crossroads, where the passers-by can see the exhibition inside while waiting for the traffic light. My colleagues were invited to give a brief statement about where they come from, where they are now and why. Their birth places are linked to their living places by red rubber bands (“Red Thread of Fate”) on two maps, a reflection of the motto “same same, but different“.

Ba Village Branding Project (Since 2011, ongoing)

Composition

Character Design The project was to visualise a Chinese logo based on a folk tale and transform it into a symbol of good luck charm from China. The image should give a mysterious yet peaceful feeling. Chinese elements were interpreted by modern methods to maintain a visual balance so that the concept could be easily accepted in the international context. Gradient color was to imitate Chinese painting strokes. A website concept was also developed at this phase.

3D Renderings of A Japanese Room and A Dining Room 2011 These renderings were comprehensive exercises at the training class for 3dsMAX. Students were expected to be able to establish models through a way of computer thinking and to familiarise themselves with key parameter values such as camera settings and textures of material (metal, wood, glass, ceramics, water, etc.) after class.

Explaining to Clients the Game Rules

U M2

G S

G G

G G

G

The game was designed for the 3rd Shenzhen Low Carbon Exhibition in 2015 to better explain low carbon city planning principles, especially to people without a professional background. To win this game, the player has to develop his/her land as much as possible under the green balance rules. A few senarios were set up by the urban planners as a guideline. During this project, my task was to design the game board as well as the land use cards and the green currency based on the information and game rules instructed by the ecological planner Suet Chan. Logo Design 2012 The logo on the left side was created for a fashion studio which sells handmade bags, jewelry and accessories for women. The owner is Korean and her favorite food is the dim sum dishes from south of China. In my proposal, I tried to combine the idea of food with fashion design elements. Finally the “products” were presented on a bamboo steam cooker for cooking dim sum. The logo on the right side was a conceptual design for a media company. The concept was to make use of the initials of the brand and to interprete the maid of the god Odin in Norse mythology in a “cool“ way.

Post Card - Mini and Max Traveling in Belgium Mini and Max is a comic story that I co-authored with a Belgian writer. It tells the adventurous trip of two classmates who travel in Belgium and China in their gap year. The aim of the story is to introduce the cultures of both countries by looking into their food, social life, architecture, etc. The story is to be continued. Character Design of Mini and Max
