Welcome to our spring season A very warm welcome to Half Moon’s new season of theatre for young audiences, which features 35 performances, 12 productions and 7 Youth Theatre performances. The Goose Who Flew is a new collaboration between Half Moon and Lots of Odds, which opens here in February before touring the UK. We’re also delighted to be working with Tam Tam Theatre to bring back their enchanting show for the very young, Circles in the Sand, in February. We’re pleased to once again team-up with Daniel Naddafy on his much loved show for babies, Glisten, which returns to Half Moon as part of a two month tour in April. There’s lots to look forward to! Don’t forget there’s free parking at weekends and we are just a 2 minute walk from Limehouse mainline and DLR station. See you soon. Chris Elwell, Director

Arts Award We are able to support our Youth Theatre members to gain a Discover, Explore, Bronze and Silver Arts Award. The Arts Award is a nationally recognised qualification that has been developed by Arts Council England and Trinity Guildhall and aims to inspire young people to develop their arts and leadership talents.


Schools & teachers can also participate Last year, Half Moon worked with 24,000 young people in over 1,500 Creative Learning sessions across 131 schools. We work with nurseries, children’s centres, schools, colleges and community and youth organisations on a range of engaging projects, including supporting young people and schools in gaining Artsmark and Arts Award. This includes curriculum-focused workshops, after-school activities and initiatives to encourage young people to get into theatre, as well as professional development opportunities for teachers and other school staff, in partnership with Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Education Service (THAMES).

management style experience for 11–17 year olds of all aspects of professional theatre

CPD for Teachers: A series of practical training sessions for primary and secondary school staff Dramatic Maths: An innovative project using drama and storytelling to engage children in KS2 maths DramaWorks: Bespoke experiential

residencies in non-mainstream settings for young people with additional needs or life limiting conditions

Early Years Creative Play: Sessions for children to explore their physicality and imaginations and to feel confident with creative play Gallery @ Half Moon: A chance for schools to experience the art in our gallery, meet the artist and use the pictures as stimulus for art, literacy and other curriculum work Next Steps: A programme using drama to support Year 6 and 7 students with their transition to secondary school

Speech Bubbles: A year-long intervention programme working with KS1 children to develop their communication skills through drama

10 Jan – 18 Apr London based printmakers Tiff Howick and Justine Ellis present a collection of their hand screen printed art. Tiff’s vibrant prints of British wildlife are influenced by childhood picture books and fashion illustrations. Justine’s striking prints are inspired by mid-century art, architecture, textiles and ceramics.

Snow Baby

Deep in the remote snowy forest an icy wind blows and snowflakes fall from the sky. Doris and Bear Man live on the hill, alone but happy. Wrapped up in a snowy smother, they are in love. But when the snowstorm comes, Bear Man disappears! How will Doris survive by herself in a forest plagued with nothing but bad weather and a cloud of hungry crows? Snow Baby is a magical experience featuring beautiful puppetry, imaginative storytelling and music that will give you goose bumps. It is a gentle show exploring family, love and loss, with lots of music, confetti and funny bits for the whole family to enjoy. #SnowBaby PAGE ONE THEATRE PRESENTS

Rise and Fall

Come and explore an ecosystem of balloons: universes in miniature. You’ll meet all manner of balloons from small floating moons to vast bouncing orbs. Forever expanding and contracting, balloons are free to float, fly and sway. Hold your breath and go sailing away. Rise and Fall is a poetic and intriguing performance for young audiences about holding on and letting go. At the end of the performance there is an interactive stay and play session.

RIPSTOP THEATRE PRESENTS

Susannah and the Sunflower Susannah dreams of creating the most beautiful flower garden but nothing seems to grow. With the help of some magic seeds from the wizard, Susannah sets out on a fantastical shadow adventure, following in the footsteps of Jack and the Beanstalk. Face to face with the giant who lives in the Cloud Castle, can Susannah avoid being eaten and help cheer him up? Everyone knows giants love to dance and eat ice cream, but even giants can feel lonely. Will the giant chicken come to her rescue and what do the snails at the bottom of the garden have to say? Told using simple shadow puppetry this is a celebration of all things that grow tall and dream big. #SusannahAndTheSunflower

Goose loves the summer, playing with his family and friends, but soon it will be time for him to fly south for the winter. As his journey begins, things are not as they should be. Down below, a border has appeared and there are barbed wire fences and flashing lights. Using charming storytelling, simple puppetry and an assortment of quirky characters, The Goose Who Flew is a heartfelt story about the importance of compassion, community and understanding, which offers an age appropriate exploration of the issues facing people who seek safety in a new land. Join us in a world of buckets, castle building, spinning and tumbling in this delightful show for under 3s which explores sand in new and exciting ways. With no words, and accompanied by an evocative soundtrack of world music, Circles in the Sand is an intimate, imaginative and captivating show, providing the perfect introduction to theatre for the very young. At the end of the performance, children are invited onto the stage to delight in the feel of the sand as it trickles between fingers and toes. Mole and Gecko: The Show A rapper and a singer. A mole and a gecko. A river. A boat with no name. A quest for adventure. A quest with a duck! Noisy Holiday is a ridiculous and funny story about going on holiday, with silliness and mischief for the whole family. Expect flying tents, diving bears, massive carrots and Ibiza anthems. The audience are taken on a gentle and immersive journey exploring the world of reflective materials. When everyone has left the house in the morning, the bath toys spring into action and head off on exciting adventures in their magical flying bath! Living on a boat should be the ideal life for a wannabe pirate, but a storm brews up when Herbert is sent home from school and Mum calls on Uncle Albatross – scourge of all pirates – to warn him of the dangers of rebellion. But who is Great Uncle Albatross and do his cautionary tales really have the power to make Young Herbert behave? Or will they just give Young Herbert the horrors?
