On this tour we visit the underground of Raufarhólshellir or the Lava Tunnel. We walk into the earth to explore the inner side of a tunnel of a 5000 years old lava. Inside we will explore colorful lava formations along with ice sculptures made by nature. The cave is located just 30 minutes away from Reykjavík and easily accessed all year. Borgarfjörður is a fjord and a valley, surrounded by beautiful landscapes, it has many interesting sites to visit. Our first scenic stop on this tour is at Hraunfossar Waterfalls. The waterfall is quite picturesque with its blue colored water that is squeezed out from the black lava. From Hraunfossar we will take a short walk to the Childrens Waterfall. From there we drive onward to Húsafell a small village. According to Forbes magazine Húsafell is the best kept secret in Iceland and an absolute gem. We stop at Reykholt where the famous historian, poet and politician Snorri Sturluson lived during the middle ages and by an impressive hot spring, Deildartunguhver. The Glacier lagoon is considered as one of the natural wonders of Iceland. On the way we stop by Skógafoss waterfall with 60 meters high drop. When the sun shines you might spot a rainbow in the mist from the waterfall. After Skógafoss we head on to Reynisfjara, the black sand beach, for a lunch break and a short walk on the black beach. We drive from Reynisfjara through a desert like land to a green oasis or the small village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur for a short stop. This entire region is bursting with tales connected with events that occurred when Kirkjubæjarklaustur was the site of a convent. We then drive onwards past Skaftafell, a national park located at the foot of Vatnajökull glacier and all the way to the Glacier lagoon before checking in to our hotel nearby. It is a three-star accommodation with breakfast included. After a good night’s sleep and breakfast on Sunday we head on to the Glacier lagoon again. Option is to take a guided tour into an ice-cave or to hike along the lagoon itself and to the Diamond beach. The Diamond beach is a black sand beach with small icebergs that glitter on the sand like diamonds. The Snæfellsnes peninsula and the west coast of Iceland offers diverse landscapes with sparkling fjords, sheer sea cliffs, a glacier, sweeping beaches and beautiful mountain scenery. Our first stop is Deildartungu hver hot spring and the beautiful waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. We stop for lunch at Húsafell and drive to Snæfellsnes. After a good day of sightseeing in Bjarnarhöfn shark museum and Gerðuberg cliffs, we check in to our B&B in Grundarfjörður where it is an option to take a stroll in the beautiful village. If the conditions are favorable you have the possibility to look for the northern lights. After breakfast on Tuesday we head on to the Kirkjufell mountain and Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall. Then we head along the north coast of Snæfellsnes. We stop in the village Hellisandur for lunch and after we drive through the Snæfellsnes national park, with good views of Snæfellsnes glacier, to a cave called Vatns hellir. There we go beyond on a 90 minutes cave tour with cave experts. Those who choose not to enter the cave can be taken to the village Hellnar. In good weather it is an option to hike a path (30 minutes) along the beach to Arnarstapi village where our next stop is. At Arnarstapi we stop by the huge statue of Bárður Snæfellsás, the half human and half troll that is according to the myths, the protector of this area. From Arnarstapi we head on towards Reykjavík with stops at Búðir beach and a seal colony at Ytri-Tunga.
