Good evening everyone,

Today, we offer a very warm welcome to the players, officials & supporters of visitors FC Bristol and our match officials too. We hope they all enjoy their brief stay in the village and have a safe journey home too!

Our visitors tonight have had another good season and will finish in the top eight or higher, depending on results.

Just three games left this season now after a rush of games this month. The League rearranged the Radstock game after it was looking like the lads would be playing on three successive nights so we now play them next Tuesday night here at Lakeview. On Saturday, our last away game is at Almondsbury, 3pm kickoff.

As always, thank you so much for your support, we really appreciate it.

Bishop Sutton Club History

The club was re-formed in 1977 with just an U15 team playing in the Weston-superMare Sunday League and then progressing in successive seasons to the Bristol and Avon League U16s and the second and first divisions before being admitted into the Somerset Senior League for the 1981-82 season.

The next ten years were spent climbing through the four divisions before being voted into the Western League for season 1991-92. The First Division was won in 1997-98 and then followed seventeen successive seasons in the Premier Division, the highlight being winning the Premier title in 2012-13.

Unfortunately our ground grading did not permit progression to the Southern League and all the team management and players then left the club. Relegation from the Premier followed at the end of season 2014-15 and we have experienced mixed fortunes in the First Division since then.

For the season 2020-21 Jon Toy came in as manager but unfortunately we were only able to play 10 games before the season was curtailed due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Having retained a lot of last season’s squad and added a couple of new players, we finished in mid table in season 2021/22.

A big thank you....

... to all our sponsors....

... from Bishop Sutton F.C.

Non-League Footballers Mental Health Championed by Bath Mind and the Toolstation Western League

The Toolstation Western League are working with Bath Mind to pilot a mental health partnership supporting the football family and players in particular. The six Western League sides located in Bath and North East Somerset have been offered specially created posters, promoting mental health support services designed to help younger people, which can be located into their home and away changing rooms.

Research conducted by the Toolstation Western League earlier this season highlighted that around a quarter of players had considered seeking help with a mental health issue. The subject of mental health was first tackled by the Western League in March 2020, when they launched their Think of a Fan campaign.

Chairman of the Western League, John Pool, explained: “Think of a Fan was our way of remembering that for many fans, football is more than just a game. It’s an important release, a chance to meet friends, get out of the house and have some fun.

Many people are still working through the loneliness and anxiety caused by lockdown, but we must not forget that our players are no different. They are as important to us as any members of our football family and this important partnership with Bath Mind is our way of supporting them.”

As well as changing room posters, Bath Mind have provided leaflets for fans, as well as programme adverts, highlighting the variety of support services they provide. If successful, this initial pilot will be extended by the Western League to cover all 40 Clubs across the South West of England, from Cornwall to Wiltshire.

Hannah Roper, Director of Business Development at Bath Mind, said: “We at Bath Mind are thrilled to be working in partnership with The Toolstation Western League, to support and promote positive mental health for the football community. Throughout the pandemic Bath Mind has been fighting an epidemic of mental ill-health. We have increased our services to meet the growing needs of our community, and help reduce pressure on NHS services.

Through this pilot we hope to encourage everyone to talk about their mental health, seek help at an early stage and reduce the stigma associated with mental ill-health. As a local, independent charity, Bath Mind relies heavily on local fundraising to keep our services going, therefore we are grateful to The Toolstation Western League and their fans for their fundraising efforts.”

FC BRISTOL

Established in 2022, this season sees a new Era begin for FC Bristol but the same heart and foundation continues to run through it. FC Bristol has taken over from a strong and successful Lebeq United team, with the aim to propel the club forward with a new and youthful direction. Last season the team finished mid table and were a little inconsistent, but throughout they stayed positive. We look forward to building on that and continue to make strides on and off the pitch with this inner city club.

Formed in 1982, Lebeq's Tavern Courage entered the Bristol & District Sunday League in the lower divisions, which is now the Bristol Premier Sunday League. After several years of rapid success they reached the Premier Division in 1990, with Manager Owen Smith and George Philipou (Secretary).

The pair strengthened the club, with Smith bringing his vast knowledge and personnel from SemiProfessional football on a Saturday and Philipou adding a good club structure behind the scenes to aid their success. Owen and George proved decisive as ever since. Lebeq's Tavern Courage (Sunday) has won every competition they have entered, with the Trophy cabinet being full to the brim!! Only one trophy has eluded the team and that’s the FA Sunday Cup. Lebeq's came very close in 2007 when they were beaten finalists at the world famous Anfield Stadium in Liverpool.

Lebeq united, the team was widely known throughout the Bristol football scene as a Sunday side. The club decided a new venture was needed and Saturday football offered the club that opportunity. Lebeq United FC entered the Bristol and Suburban Association Football League division three, for the start of the 2009/10 season under the management of Clifford Goulbourne and George Philipou (secretary). The campaign began well and it was not long before Lebeq’s talented squad asserted themselves with promotion finishing as runners-up in the first season. The following season the club once again progressed and were promoted to division one.

In 2013/14 Derry Nathasingh came in and immediately imposed himself on the team and brought some much needed stability. He secured many new quality players to be able to compete at the higher end of the league. Success followed and Lebeq United got promoted to the premier division one for 2014/15 season.

After a disappointing campaign, a fresh new strategy was now in need and Derry became the second casualty for Lebeq’s massive ambitions and the club introduced a new joint management team for the beginning of the 2015/16 campaign, that was Rayan Wilson and Benjamin McLeod.

Focus on....

Focus on.... FC BRISTOL

A hard and difficult season followed but all the hard work was eventually rewarded when the club lifted the Suburban Premier Division 1 League Title and came very close to becoming double winners that season when they were beaten finalists in the Hillard Bosley cup. Rayan had a brief spell away from the club and returned in the late 2017/18 season and narrowly missed out on promotion. He set his own target of changing this disappointment, and trying to make it a reality for the up and coming 2018/19 season.

With some outstanding performances and only losing 3 games in a chase for the title the team and management achieved their goal by winning the Marcliff Gloucestershire County Football League and getting promoted for the first time in the clubs history into the Toolstation Western League Division 1.

Our first season in the Western League was hampered by the Global Pandemic, but after our first taste of the great standard of football at this level we have hopefully learned a lot in our short stay and can hopefully compete and give a few teams a problem to maintain our quest of moving up through the leagues.
