FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Finally a reminder that later today we are screening the much anticipated boxing rematch between Usyk and Joshua. Build up begins from 6:00pm with the main event expected to commence at around 9:30pm. All attending today’s match are welcome to stick around for what should be a showdown finish to an exciting day. Our thanks again go to Jordan Adlard Rogers for sponsoring this evenings boxing action. Whatever the outcome for whichever team you are supporting this afternoon, please have yourself an overall enjoyable time here at Kellaway Park. Thank you for your support

With Helston participating in the competition for only a third season, who would have predicted that today we would be welcoming the players, officials and supporters of our local rivals Falmouth Town to Kellaway Park. Further to this should either side end the afternoon victorious, then we will go head to head here again next Tuesday in The Toolstation Western League. KO 7:45pm

126 years in the making and finally the day has arrived when Helston Athletic Football Club gets to host its first ever FA Cup tie. A milestone cumulating from years of dedication and commitment from far too many to mention. To all those past and present who have strived for today, we’ve made it THANK YOU.

Following last Saturday’s home win over Wellington, we headed for the Waterway Stadium Saltash last Tuesday evening for our first away league fixture of the season. What unfolded was a game of two halves with Helston holding the upper hand during the first forty five, only for the dominance to be reversed after the break. An exciting encounter ended with both teams reduced to ten men and one goal each. Rubin Wilson netting for The Blues. Today also marks the start of the season for our Development Squad as they kick off their campaign as defending LWC Drinks Cornwall Combination League and Cup champions away to St Ives Town. Good luck to all involved and here’s to an opening day win.

Should this afternoons scoreline end all square after ninety minutes, arrangements are in place for a replay to be held to Bickland Park, the home of our visitors today, next Wednesday, 24th August, KO 7:45pm. A replay would be required to be played to a conclusion with extra time and penalties as necessary. As well as our opponents may I also take this opportunity to extend a warm Kellaway Park welcome to this afternoon's match officials Jonathon Veal, Andrew Jenkin and Leigh Michael.

The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871 72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Since 2015, it has been known as The Emirates FA Cup after its headline sponsor. A concurrent women's tournament is also held, the Women's FA Cup. The competition is open to 20 professional clubs in the Premier League, 72 professional clubs in the English Football League, and all clubs in steps 1 5 of the National League System as well as a tiny number of step 6 clubs acting as stand ins for non entries from above. A record 763 clubs competed in 2011 12. The tournament consists of 12 drawn rounds followed by semi finals and the final. Entrants are not seeded, although a system of exemptions based on league level ensures higher ranked teams enter in later rounds the minimum number of games needed to win, depending on which round a team enters the competition, ranges from six to fourteen. The first six rounds are the Qualifying Competition, from which 32 teams progress to the first round of the Competition Proper, meeting the first of the 48 professional teams from League One and Two. The last entrants are the Premier League and Championship clubs, who enter the draw for the Third Round Proper. In the modern era, only one non League team has ever reached the quarter finals, and no team below the Championship has ever reached the final. As a result, significant focus is given to the smaller teams who progress furthest, especially if they achieve an unlikely "giant-killing" Winnersvictory.

receive the FA Cup trophy, of which there have been two designs and five actual cups; the latest is a 2014 replica of the second design, introduced in 1911. Winners also qualify for the UEFA Europa League and a place in the FA Community Shield. Arsenal are the most successful club with fourteen titles and Arsene Wenger is the most successful manager in the history of the competition, having won seven finals as Arsenal's manager. Liverpool are the current Cup holders, having beaten Chelsea 6 5 on penalties following a 0 0 draw in the 2022 final.
