FROM THE CHAIRMAN
With last week producing a full house of victories for all Helston Athletic senior sides, plus that of both U18’s & U16’s boys, we kick off a new week in welcoming the players, officials and supporters of Millbrook FC to Kellaway Park. In addition to our opponents it’s a warm welcome to this evenings match officials Rowan Clarke, David Dodson and Matt Probin.
Although having not lived up to the anticipated thriller of a cup tie, it's pleasing to have progressed into the 1st round proper of this season's FA Vase Competition. For those unaware we will now, for a fourth time this season, take on Falmouth Town on Saturday 22nd October for a place in round two.
Following this evenings and tomorrows Reserve team fixture verses Perranporth, also here at Blues HQ, KO 7:30pm, all attention turns to Saturday's history making FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round tie away to Southern League Premier South Division leaders Weston-Super-Mare. The Seagulls will without question prove to be challenging opponents but who knows what the magic of the FA Cup has in store.
For those wanting to support The Blues, a free supporters coach departs Kellaway Park at 9:00am. To reserve your seat please ask at the bar or e mail paul.m.hendy@btinternet.com. With several seats already reserved, and to avoid disappointment, please do not leave until the eleventh hour.
Whatever the outcome on Saturday, Helston Athletic Women will be taking to the Kellaway turf on Sunday verses Marine Academy Plymouth in the 2nd Qualifying Round of this seasons Women’s FA Cup. Having made light work of the last two weeks matches, this weeks opponents will provide a much sterner test. Again if you are able to offer your support, please do join us. KO is at 2:00pm.
Unless Saturday’s FA Cup tie goes a replay here next Tuesday evening, we will be heading for Torpoint Athletic next Wednesday to compete in the 1st Round of this seasons Cornwall Senior Cup. KO for this one is at 7:30pm with the playing of extra time and taking of penalty kicks if required.
Finally we hope you enjoy this evenings match as we look to secure three valuable Toolstation Western League Premier Division points.
As always, thank you for your support.

The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871 72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Since 2015, it has been known as The Emirates FA Cup after its headline sponsor. A concurrent women's tournament is also held, the Women's FA Cup.
The competition is open to 20 professional clubs in the Premier League, 72 professional clubs in the English Football League, and all clubs in steps 1-5 of the National League System as well as a tiny number of step 6 clubs acting as stand-ins for non-entries from above. A record 763 clubs competed in 2011 12. The tournament consists of 12 drawn rounds followed by semi finals and the final. Entrants are not seeded, although a system of exemptions based on league level ensures higher ranked teams enter in later rounds the minimum number of games needed to win, depending on which round a team enters the competition, ranges from six to fourteen.
The first six rounds are the Qualifying Competition, from which 32 teams progress to the first round of the Competition Proper, meeting the first of the 48 professional teams from League One and Two. The last entrants are the Premier League and Championship clubs, who enter the draw for the Third Round Proper. In the modern era, only one non League team has ever reached the quarter finals, and no team below the Championship has ever reached the final. As a result, significant focus is given to the smaller teams who progress furthest, especially if they achieve an unlikely "giant killing" victory.
Winners receive the FA Cup trophy, of which there have been two designs and five actual cups; the latest is a 2014 replica of the second design, introduced in 1911. Winners also qualify for the UEFA Europa League and a place in the FA Community Shield. Arsenal are the most successful club with fourteen titles and Arsene Wenger is the most successful manager in the history of the competition, having won seven finals as Arsenal's manager.
Liverpool are the current Cup holders, having beaten Chelsea 6–5 on penalties following a 0 0 draw in the 2022 final.

MILLBROOK AFC
Millbrook was established in 1888 and played in district leagues, including the Plymouth and District league, until joining the Southern Western league in 1980.
The club were South Western League runners up in 1981 82 and finished in the top five every season until 1988 89, also reaching the final of the Cornwall senior cup in 1983/84.
After losing another Cornwall Senior Cup final in 1998/99, they entered the FA Vase for the first time in 2004/05, losing 2 1 at home to Exmouth Town.
The club remained in the league until it merged to form the South west Peninsula League in 2007, at which point they were placed in Division One West.
After finishing bottom of Division One West in 2008/09 and second from bottom in 2009/10, financial problems forced Millbrook to resign from the league, with the first team taking over from the reserves in Division One of the East Cornwall league.
The club were Division One runners-up in 2012/13, earning promotion to the Premier Division. A third place finish in the Premier Division in 2013 14, a season that also saw them lose the League Cup final, was enough to secure promotion back to Division One West of the South West Peninsula League.
In 2017/18 Millbrook were crowned Division One West champions, earning promotion to the SWPL Premier Division. Following league reorganisation at the end of the 2018/19 season, the club were placed in the Premier Division East.
This also saw Millbrook re enter the FA Vase, reaching the 3rd Round proper in 2019/20 and playing in the FA Cup for the first time in Millbrook’s history.
In 2021 they were promoted to the Premier Division of the Toolstation Western League Premier Division based on their results in the abandoned 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons.
