FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Happy New Year One & All,
To kick off 2023 it's a pleasure to welcome the players, officials and supporters of Shepton Mallet to Kellaway Park. It's an extended welcome also to our match officials David Bartlam, Ian Pattison and Max Davies
Last season saw Helston and Shepton Mallet meet for the first time. Spoils were shared with both sides recording home wins whilst ending the season in the top half of the table. If last season’s encounters are anything to go by, this afternoon will be a highly contested encounter.
It's been a mixed bag of emotions since last playing at home back on the 10th December. What with the weather putting pay to our away trip to Keynsham, we left Mousehole empty handed on Boxing Day. Intermixed with this there has been the conclusion of The World Cup. festive celebrations, heart warming charity donations, but sadly the loss of loved ones close to our hearts.
Prior to Christmas it was saddening to hear of the passing of Lisa Tripconey, Mum of talented Helston players Luke and Jude. Lisa braved a long illness but supported Luke and Jude whenever she could.
On the 21st December we received notification of the passing of life member and former club groundsman, David Treloar. David contributed 1000’s of voluntary hours at the club whilst in later years continued to attend match days whenever he could. We will be forever grateful for David’s dedication and support.
Whilst penning today's words, news has just broken of the passing of Alec Strike, Grandfather of Helston Athletic Youth Secretary Chris Strike and long serving stalwart of local rivals Porthleven Football Club. Alec was a great character that anyone couldn’t fail to like. It was always a pleasure to meet him.
Helston Athletic Football Club shares its condolences to the families and friends of Lisa, David and Alec, whilst requesting all attending today’s match respect the minutes silence to be held in their memories prior to kick off.
As we look ahead, I wish you all an enjoyable afternoon and as always thank you for your invaluable attendance and support.

In 2019 Craig was joined as joint manager by former Hengrove Athletic manager John Durbin who remained in the dugout with Craig. After two disrupted seasons due to Covid 19, a semblance of normality was restored last season, when the club again achieved a now joint highest 6th place finish.
They also registered their highest goals total at Premier League level, 77, and conceded their least, 36, as well as registering the most clean sheets in a season in all games (20), and also increased attendances to an all time high in the modern era.
With the vast majority of last season's playing staff staying with the club, we can look forward to another exciting season.
In mid November this year, we appointed a new management team of former Shepton players Aaron Seviour, assisted by Andy Martin and Ricky Lebiedz as goalkeeper coach.
