New research highlights potential demand for installers

The widely promoted 50,000 installers required to meet the Government’s ambitious annual heat pump installation target of 600,000 may be three times lower than the number required, research has revealed. The Heating and Hotwater Industry Council (HHIC) has calculated that a figure of circa 150,000 workers is required to meet the Government’s target. It also uncovers the need for 100,000 new entrants to the industry – a figure almost equivalent to the entire current Gas Safe Register.

Broker urges construction businesses to shout ‘I’m a liability’

Building with sustainable timber should become the new normal, declares Kebony

The industry must address the global challenge of deforestation through giving people a sustainable alternative. Five more common hardwoods, including Ipe and Cumaru, were formally listed in CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) Appendix II – meaning they will now be better protected. Kebony utilises a patented wood modification technology that produces an environmentally friendly, cost-effective and superior wood.

Demand for construction workers high

New figures from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) reveal that almost 225,000 extra workers will be required to meet UK construction demand by 2027. The Construction Skills Network (CSN) report has also found that construction output is set to grow for all nations and regions, with private housing a major area of demand. If projected growth is met, by 2027 the number of people working in construction will be 2.67m.
