Building Type: Mixed Use
Loca!on: Champaign, IL USA
Class: ARCH 372, Spring 2020
Academic: Individual
The BRIDGE apartments aim to improve the quality of life for its residents by encouraging the enjoyment of nature and by fostering community. Bridging the gap, both literally and "gura!vely, between the built and natural world creates opportuni!es for ac!vity and engagement between residents and members of the community.
Opening space at the ground level allows public movement between the Boneyard Greenway and the downtown area. For residents, the stacked two-story units create private outdoor balconies for each unit. Roo#op gardening and gathering spaces also enable residents to enjoy the social bene"ts of communal living.
The BRIDGE enables healthier lifestyles as the gap between home and nature is "lled. This focus on connec!on at both the public and private levels allows residents to maintain physical, mental, and social health.
