The two local pubs wholeheartedly support community life and continue to welcome community groups to freely use their venues for meetings. The Red Lion pub have been pleased with the level of support from the local community. Since Caroline, Neal and Mike took over a few months ago the pub has exceeded brewery expectations and is proving popular with local residents for refreshments and celebrations. The Black Swan continue to embrace community life. Recently they freely hosted ‘Carnival Friday’ to support fundraising for the Parish Carnival and provided free coffee for thirsty Parish litter pickers. Thanks to The Black Swan the village pond continues to be an attractive green space in which to freely sit and enjoy the scenery and wildlife it attracts. Check out the ducklings and rescued chickens! 4

Friends of Hollinfare Cemetery continue to make progress with their actions to continually improve the look and feel of the cemetery. In 2014 Friends installed new storage / recycling bays, planted more border sections, a wildflower area and bedding plants, donated once again by local farmers, which will add summer colour to the front wall and large planters inside. Thanks to successful grants from Warrington Community Chest and Golden Gates Housing and a granite plaque donation from J.E.Marks Memorial the Cubs Remembrance Garden will be completed this summer. If you would like to be part of further exciting improvements see p.9 for contacts.

The Rixton-with-Glazebrook HS2 Action Group committee are still maintaining a dialogue with other groups along the line, particularly through Cheshire, and are sharing information to make sure that collectively they stay up to date with all developments at national level and to make sure that they are all doing as much as possible to maintain and improve awareness. Going forward for the next few months their attention will primarily be on lobbying local members, MP’s and the local councils along the Cheshire stretch of the route with a view to firstly securing support against the principle of HS2 at all and in the second instance also lobbying for the removal of the Cheshire spur. They will be putting out an updated newsletter over the summer months, if you aren’t subscribed to receive the newsletter, you can do so by emailing info@warringtonstophs2.co.uk

Rixton-with-Glazebrook Parish Plan Update

POLICE COMMUNITY SUPPORT OFFICER (PCSO)

The Parish Plan-One Year On review document, delivered to every household in May, fully highlights actions taken by all 7 Action Groups in the 12 months following the launch of the Parish Plan in April 2013. A copy can also be viewed or downloaded from the community website www.rixtonwithglazebrook.net

PCSO Bethan Roberts continues to patrol our village. Joint police and local ward councillor surgeries provide opportunities for you to discuss any issues or concerns which are affecting you or your community - see diary dates. A monthly news bulletin is produced by Cheshire Constabulary which highlights community engagement and priority action taken in our area - visit www.cheshire.police.uk then click on Warrington East > Rixton & Woolston or visit www. rixtonwithglazebrook.net police page. Residents can also sign up for Cheshire Police Alert, a community messaging system, by visiting www.cheshirepolicealert.co.uk for more information and to register. By registering you receive news and appeals, local crime information and crime prevention advice direct as an email, text or voice message. To contact Cheshire Police call 101 - this is a non-emergency police number which should be used to report less urgent crime, for general enquiries or to speak to a local officer. In an emergency dial 999.

Litter picks and bulb and summer planting are now scheduled items for action by the Look of the Parish group. Thanks to residents opening their gardens to the public and local groups and residents making Superhero scarecrows, the Garden Safari was once again a lovely Social and Community event. Despite heavy downpours, 121 programmes were sold raising £605 for future Parish Plan projects. The Recreation and Leisure group have organised a Ranger led ‘Walk and Talk’ event to be held 6th July at Rixton Claypits to raise awareness of this SSSI Nature Reserve on our doorstep (see p.14). It is excellent news that two of the key actions highlighted in the Parish Plan, a Parish Carnival and a Community Shop, are set to be achieved this year. Both of these have been taken forward with the formation of separate committees, born from volunteers on the Parish Plan Group, to help ensure the sustainability of these projects. At the time of going to print the Carnival committee were busy with the final preparations for this long awaited event, a first for 30 years. You can visit www.rixtonwithglazebrook.net to see images and news of the day’s fun activities. The Community Shop Open Day in May was a success with over 70 people turning up. Since then the Shopping group have been keeping things moving along and in June held an information stall at the Parish Carnival to update residents on progress. Soon to be launched is a shop website www.hollinsgreenshop.com to further share news and information of ongoing developments. To be put on the Shopping Group’s mailing list contact hollinsgreenshop@gmail.com The next Parish Plan Group public meeting is on Wednesday 1st October, 7.30pm, Rixton Methodist Church - all welcome. Hopefully there will less of a blight on the roads in the village now there is no need to take a short cut. A one way traffic scheme is to be put in place at Holly Bush Lane between Woodend Lane and Prospect Lane to divert patrons of the Shooting Club disturbing the residents of Holly Bush Lane. There are other measures to be put in place to comply with the inspectors report before shooting takes place. RIXTON-WITH-GLAZEBROOK PARISH COUNCIL (PC) Message from Chairman Cllr. Liz Clarke “At the Parish Meeting in May I was elected Chair for the next twelve months and Maureen Banner Vice Chair. What a spectacular sight the daffodils made this year, those planted by WBC in swathes throughout the village and those the Parish Plan volunteers planted last autumn. This year we are commemorating one hundred years since the outbreak of WW1 and the Parish Council have scattered poppy seeds around the villages including Glamis Wood. We already have some lovely poppies in flower, which have re-seeded from last year. The Parish Plan Group celebrated ‘One Year On’ as I am sure you are aware. Congratulations to all those people who have worked hard making changes in our villages during the past twelve months and to those who have produced the updated booklet that everyone received through their letterbox. The Parish Council have helped out by giving £500 to the Carnival project and £250 to the registration of the new Village Shop in Hollins Green. We have also widened and laid new paths on Glazebrook Village Green which has made a big difference and look really good. Wishing everyone a really good summer.” Liz PARISH COUNCIL MEETINGS You are most welcome to go along and observe your Parish Councillors acting on your behalf every 3rd Thursday of each month (except August) from 7.45pm at The Community Hall, Hollins Green - see diary for monthly dates. WARRINGTON BOROUGH COUNCILLORS updates “Your Borough Councillors have been active in the last couple of months dealing with Parish and resident’s problems. It is good to see that the Warburton Bridge junction lights are working well and that it is much easier when travelling from Warrington to Manchester now there is a filter lane.
