There is no more additional news as yet on the Heritage Lottery funding bid for Rixton Claypits SSSI Nature Reserve. The Rangers would however like to share some news on the Reserve’s wildlife. Two flocks of Hebridean sheep, twenty in each, are back for the summer to help keep various invasive plants such as willow, birch and bramble under control. They do like a siesta in the afternoon, especially in hot weather, but are more active early morning and evening when its cooler. Now would be a good time to visit the site to also see the thousands of marsh orchids which are at their best this time of the year. The spell of warm, dry weather in early June brought out the dragonflies. Look out for the Emperor (the UK’s largest species), the Broad Bodied Chaser, Banded Agrion and Black Tailed Skimmers. The wildlife highlight, so far this year, has to be the Osprey which spent a week on site in May, showing the anglers how to catch fish! If you have not yet visited this local gem of a reserve then see p.21 for the address and further information. Time allowing, this summer, the Rangers will attempt to create another pond for the protected Great Crested Newt, which will help increase the population, if only the local Heron would stop eating them all!

Parish Plan - Action Group Update

POLICE COMMUNITY SUPPORT OFFICER (PCSO)

Every resident should now have received their copy of the Parish Plan 3yr Review document giving an update on Parish Plan actions achieved so far and the next steps for action in line with the 5yr action plan. If for some reason you have not received your copy please contact Mandy on 07767 075211 or mandy@hamiltondavies.org.uk

PCSO Bethan Roberts continues to patrol our village. Joint police and local ward councillor surgeries provide opportunities for you to discuss any issues or concerns which are affecting you or your community - see diary dates. A monthly news bulletin is produced by Cheshire Constabulary which highlights community engagement and priority action taken in our area - visit www.cheshire.police.uk then hover over the Warrington area marked on the map and click on Warrington East for infomation for the Rixton & Woolston area. Residents can also sign up for Cheshire Police Alert, a community messaging system, by visiting www.cheshirepolicealert.co.uk for more information and to register. By registering you receive news and appeals, local crime information and crime prevention advice direct as an email, text or voice message. To contact Cheshire Police call 101 - this is a non-emergency police number which should be used to report less urgent crime, for general enquiries or to speak to a local officer. In an emergency dial 999

Look of the Parish The parish approach was looking much tidier on 11th June following the actions of 17 busy volunteers who between them collected 35 bags of rubbish from verges along the A57 Manchester Road. After 2 hours grafting they enjoyed a welcome cup of coffee courtesy of the Black Swan. The next litter pick (this time organised by the Parish Council) is on Saturday 24th September, meeting at the Black Swan at 10am. Dog Fouling - unfortunately this still blights our parish, in particular on the pavements and paths beside the play park where children and parents go into Pre-school and school. See p.20 for details on how to report incidents of dog fouling. Recreation & Leisure Hundreds of children and adults at the Parish Carnival enjoyed some fun and games thanks to the Action Group’s games stall which included, Coconut Shy, Guess the Weight of the Tyre, Hook a Duck and Ball in the Bucket. Monies raised will be put towards future Parish Plan projects. Social and Community Once again 10 gardeners opened their gardens to the public for the Garden Safari in June. Thanks to them and the art exhibition, scarecrow trail, refreshments and Cadishead Band another successful community event was enjoyed by over 100 visitors, despite the downpours! Sale of programmes raised £650 for future Parish Plan projects. The Parish Plan Group could use the IT skills of a young volunteer to assist with social media and group mail shots. If you are interested in lending a hand and want some volunteering experience to add to your CV, please get in touch - contacts below. Next meeting - Wednesday 13th July 7.30pm, Glazebrook Methodist Parish Plan Secretary - Helen Weight - 07530 895677 Parish Plan Chair - Pete Higson - info@rwgparishplan.net 8

WARRINGTON BOROUGH COUNCILLORS (WBC) updates “There has been little activity over the past few months as the local elections and the police commissioner election has taken up most of the councillors time. The parish has 2 new Ward Councillors, Andrew Hill and Pat Wright - see names and contacts below. We are still keeping a watchful eye on the HS2 development and remain totally against the proposed HS2 west coast train link through our villages. We will be working with and encouraging the new liaison committee to be as pro-active as they can in monitoring all the activities involving the work and restoration of the tips in Rixton.” Tony McCarthy Tony McCarthy 01925 251221 tmccarthy@warrington.gov.uk Andrew Hill 01925 419481 ahill1@warrington.gov.uk Pat Wright 01925 823165 pwright@warrington.gov.uk Residents’ Surgeries are held to enable residents another opportunity to go along to discuss any council related or policing issues. Meetings are a forum for finding out what’s happening locally and in helping to sort out resident’s problems. For example, in Great Sankey, residents at the community meeting worked with the council to bid for funding to refurbish a local play area. In Burtonwood and Winwick they are developing a neighbour favour scheme. Community meetings are supported by Neighbourhoods in Warrington for Warrington Borough Council. The next meeting for Rixton and Woolston is on Tuesday 12 July 2pm. The venue is still to be confirmed. RIXTON-WITH-GLAZEBROOK PARISH COUNCIL (PC) Message from Chair Dave Trenbath “The Parish Council in support of our community will be hosting an awareness day in conjunction with LifeTime during September - date and venue to be announced. LifeTime, which is based at the Gateway Warrington (www.lifetimegateway.org.uk) offers IT courses, exercise classes, coffee mornings, day trips or specific health support groups and provides access to all of them through the LifeTime network. The LifeTime community offers essential, supportive and helpful information and training and events which can relate to various times of life. House security and maintenance, age proofing your home, financial issues, benefit information and energy efficiency information will be available from “whia” (www.whia.org.uk) also based at The Gateway. HS2 remains a threat to our area. No decision will be made by government until late autumn. HS2 Ltd will be holding a drop-in surgery on Tuesday 6th September - see p.16 for venue and time. Make your voice heard by attending and asking any question you feel would be relevant to you. Dog fouling continues to be an issue and although the majority of dog owners are responsible people and will remove their dog’s mess, unfortunately, there are still the few who do not. Dog mess is an eyesore and a health hazard, dog owners have a legal duty to clean up their dog’s mess and not to do so is an offence which carries a fixed penalty of £40, but can carry a maximum fine of £500. The Parish Council have again supported the Hollins Green Village Carnival this year and we hope it is as successful as previous years. ” PARISH COUNCIL MEETINGS The Parish Council meeting is a meeting in public for residents to attend as observers. The LifeTime community offers essential, supportive and helpful information and training and events which can relate to various times of life. House security and maintenance, age proofing your home, financial issues, benefit information and energy efficiency information will be available from “whia” (www.whia.org.uk) also based at The Gateway. Next Surgeries - Sat 16th July / 17th Sept / 19th Nov 10.30am - 11am Held at St. Helen’s Church House, Manchester Road, Hollins Green All dates for 2016 will be posted on www.rixtonwithglazebrook.net EAST WARRINGTON AREA MANAGER - Ruth Whitworth Rixton and Woolston community meetings are an ideal way to meet with fellow residents to work together for your area and share good practise. To find out where the next meeting will be held or for further information about the meetings contact Ruth on 07827 232563 email rwhitworth@warrington.gov.uk 24
