As we draw near to the end of the year, many in our community will turn their focus to celebrations and times of giving. Again, the library will celebrate that spirit of giving in November and December with our Season of Giving initiative. We’re partnering with local organizations for donation drives and featuring some festive programs. This year, HEPL will collect new socks, winter hats, gloves/mittens, period products, and diapers. Look for donation collection spots at both the Noblesville and Fishers Library throughout November and December. Also, stop by either location to participate in one or both of our letter writing campaigns to send words of cheer throughout our community and beyond! Support those in need in our community this season by donating new socks, winter hats, and gloves/mittens (in all sizes). Donated items will go to the Delaware Township Trustee’s office and the Noblesville Township Trustee’s office for distribution. HamCoLove is a local organization striving to end period poverty in Hamilton County. Part of their mission is “to provide necessary period care products to Hamilton County, IN residents.” HEPL will be collecting items from HamCoLove’s wish lists throughout November and December. Wish lists are featured below. If you would like to donate directly to HamCoLove, they have a Venmo: @HamCoLove. Indiana Diaper Bank empowers families in Indiana by providing a reliable and adequate supply of diapering essentials. We’ll have donation boxes in both libraries to collect new and opened packs of disposable diapers, clean cloth diapers, wipes, and creams. To participate in any Season of Giving programs, you may register on our online Calendar of Events. We hope you will celebrate this Season of Giving with us at HEPL!

Of all the items included in the Care Packages, the most cherished are the personal letters of appreciation! If you don’t have time to write a letter in the library, you can also drop off unsealed letters and cards at the Season of Giving letter station. Assisted Living Letter Writing Campaign 12/1-12/15 This December, we are celebrating our annual Season of Giving with a letter writing campaign! Drop by either library location to write letters of kindness, encouragement, and cheer for our local community members in assisted living facilities. If you don’t have time to write a letter in the library, you can also drop off unsealed letters and cards at the Season of Giving letter station. Your compassion and encouragement can be a source of light and warmth in these cold winter months!

Home Delivery Lead Q: A:
How long have you been involved with Home Delivery at HEPL? I began working at HEPL 22 years ago. Some library staff members were occasionally dropping off books to a few homebound patrons on their way home from work. This Home Delivery service mushroomed to include visits to several assisted living facilities, and the number of registered homebound patrons grew to over 140 people! I loved getting to know many of these homebound patrons, and they were so appreciative of the service.
Q: A:
Tell us about the Home Delivery process and your team of volunteers. Patrons can place holds on materials, and then I will check the Holds shelves daily to see if there are any available holds for them that we can deliver. I will check them out to the patron and get them ready for delivery. We have two awesome volunteers who make deliveries for us every Tuesday and Thursday morning. The materials are dropped off at the patron’s door, and the volunteer will pick up any materials to be returned.
Q: A:
What have you heard from patrons who take advantage of the Home Delivery service? The service is open to any patron, not just truly homebound patrons who cannot access the library because of age-related mobility or health issues. Just yesterday, I spoke with a patron on the phone who lives at an assisted living facility in Fishers. He was so happy that we could supply him with DVD movies that he could show for Saturday afternoon movie matinees. He said, “You are a savior to me! I am almost in tears. You are going to be a big part of our success here.” There are times when patrons’ holds become available, but they just can’t get to the library in time to pick them up. Life challenges happen, and they may take priority over getting to the library. That’s where we can make a difference.
Q: A:
What do you enjoy most about making Home Deliveries? I enjoy building friendly relationships with patrons, even if it is just over the phone. Getting the materials to them as quickly as I can is something I enjoy doing. Discover Guide | Page 19 | hepl.lib.in.us
