THE HAMMOND THEATRE Easily accessible by car and public transport, the Hammond Theatre in Hampton, South West London, offers a programme of shows and screenings to suit everyone. Our exciting 2019-20 season brings you ten screenings from the Royal Opera House and The Royal Ballet including much-loved classics such as Coppélia, The Sleeping Beauty and La bohème. Our ever-popular programme of screenings from National Theatre Live also continues, showcasing the best of British Theatre with The Old Vic’s production of Present Laughter and political drama Hansard among many performances. Don’t miss our first live show from production company Shakespearience as they fly through Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet and Twelfth Night in a whirlwind hour of mischievous storytelling. Suitable for everyone over 5 years, it promises to be a wonderful introduction to some of Shakespeare’s greatest plays. HANSARD See Olivier Award-winners, Lindsay Duncan (Birdman, About Time) and Alex Jennings (The Lady in the Van, The Queen), in this new political drama from Simon Woods. It’s a summer’s morning in 1988 and Tory politician Robin Hesketh has returned home to the idyllic Cotswold house he shares with his wife, Diana. But all is not as blissful as it seems. Diana has a stinking hangover, a fox is destroying the garden, and secrets are being dug up all over the place. As the day draws on, what starts as gentle ribbing and the familiar rhythms of marital scrapping quickly turns to blood-sport.

As star actor Garry Essendine prepares to embark on an overseas tour, his colourful life is in danger of spiralling out of control. Engulfed by an escalating identity crisis as his many and various relationships compete for his attention, Garry’s few remaining days at home are a chaotic whirlwind of love, panic and soul-searching.

COPPÉLIA A story of love, mischief and mechanical dolls. A classic returns to The Royal Ballet repertory with Ninette de Valois’ charming and funny Coppélia. The intricate choreography is set to Delibes’ delightful score and shows off the technical precision and comedic timing of the whole company. Osbert Lancaster’s designs bring a colourful story book world to life in this wonderful Christmas treat for the whole family.

THE NUTCRACKER The young Clara creeps downstairs on Christmas Eve to play with her favourite present – a Nutcracker doll. But the mysterious magician Herr Drosselmeyer is waiting to sweep her off on a magical adventure. The Royal Ballet’s glorious production of The Nutcracker, created by Peter Wright in 1984, is the production par excellence of an all-time ballet favourite. Tchaikovsky’s glittering score, the gorgeous festive stage designs, and The Royal Ballet’s captivating dancing including an exquisite pas de deux between the Sugar Plum Fairy and her prince, make this Nutcracker the quintessential Christmas experience.

Beethoven’s only opera is a masterpiece, an uplifting story of risk and triumph. The music is transcendent throughout and includes the famous Act I Quartet, The Prisoners’ Chorus and Florestan’s impassioned Act II cry in the darkness and vision of hope.

THE DANTE PROJECT In this new work, The Royal Ballet’s trailblazing resident choreographer, Wayne McGregor, collaborates with an awardwinning team to bring us closer to Dante and his extraordinary vision with a reimagining of The Divine Comedy. A poem inspired by the agony of Dante’s own exile, tracing his path from crisis to revelation guided by his literary hero Virgil and his lost love Beatrice.

With the first chords of Elektra we are plunged into a psychologically intense and violent world. Klytämnestra has murdered her husband King Agamemnon and her daughter Elektra is determine to avenge her father’s death.
