CELEBRATING PARTNERSHIPS 2022-23
All educationalists are united in their passion to help young people thrive and succeed and this is the very essence of what Feltham College is all about – it is the best of both worlds, uniting resources and expertise to help young people in the Feltham area who deserve to have every opportunity to fulfil their hopes and ambitions. Dame Rachel de Souza, Children’s Commissioner for England
CELEBRATING PARTNERSHIPS It brings me great pleasure to introduce this publication, which celebrates the exciting range of partnerships that took place during the 2022-23 academic year. I am grateful to colleagues and pupils at Hampton and all our partner schools for the creativity and hard work that the activities outlined in this booklet entail. Alongside the many activities that showcase what can be achieved when maintained and independent schools work collaboratively, this year saw the official opening of Feltham College. We are delighted to be involved in this pioneering project, developed with our friends from Lady Eleanor Holles (LEH) and Reach Academy, with whom we have worked in mutually beneficial partnership for several years.
Cross-sector collaborations provide better educational opportunities and outcomes for everyone involved. Hampton remains committed to promoting social mobility through active and meaningful engagement with our local community through our partnership activities. Doing so remains fundamental to our School’s ethos of encouraging pupils to not only want to make sense of the world, but also to want to improve it and make a difference for good. With kind regards and best wishes,
Kevin Knibbs Headmaster

FELTHAM COLLEGE Hampton School, LEH and Reach Academy are the three founding partners of a pioneering new sixth form college for Feltham. Opened in September 2022, Feltham College is an innovative model that draws on the strengths of its partners to offer young people the best possible 16+ provision and help them move on to adult lives of choice and opportunity.
Feltham is one of the most deprived areas of the UK. Around 45% of pupils at Feltham College are currently eligible for free school meals, and only 20% of young people in the general area move on to higher education, less than half the national average. Partnership work between Hampton School, LEH and Reach Academy began over six years ago and wide-ranging benefits have been clear to see. Feltham College was the natural evolution of that partnership and is Reach Academy’s new sixth form. The college has already established a reputation for excellence, with increased admission registrations during its first year.

CELEBRATING PARTNERSHIPS 2022-23
The innovative partnership with Reach Academy, which saw the launch of a new college in an area where too few young people go on to further or higher education, is a fantastic example of the private and public sector coming together to promote opportunity and improve outcomes for all young people. Munira Wilson, Liberal Democrat MP, Twickenham
As part of the partnership, Hampton and LEH offer 28 periods of teaching to Feltham College each week. The injection of additional academic resources is highly valued and teachers from the three schools collaborate closely to decide where best to invest this focused expertise. The two independent schools also offer revision sessions and extension classes, alongside university application support. Pupils at Feltham College are also invited to academic talks, seminars, and activity days at Hampton and LEH, and have access to facilities such as laboratories. Alongside the Foundation Partners, there is also investment in the sixth form college from leading organisations such as Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Foundation Trust and Kingston University, who support additional vocational qualifications.
The partnership with Hampton offers a range of benefits. I attend the Maths extension masterclass at Hampton where we are pushed to the best of our abilities to solve the A/A* grade questions. I have received offers from four Russell Group universities. Sixth Form Pupil, Feltham College

THE HAMPTON INDEPENDENT/ STATE SCHOOLS PARTNERSHIP Established in 2003, the Hampton Independent/State Schools Partnership (ISSP) is a thriving link between Hampton, LEH, and five local maintained schools: Hampton High; Orleans Park School; Teddington School; The Hollyfield School; and Tolworth Girls’ School. Together, we have built up a programme of educational and co-curricular opportunities, enabling pupils and teachers across the partnership to work collaboratively and to draw upon the particular strengths of each school. All schools within the Hampton ISSP are invited to host events across the year, during which pupils join together for activities including: Mathematics; IT; Science; Design & Technology; Pubic Speaking; Dance; Music; and a Model United Nations Conference.

ISSP MUSIC DAY Over 170 musicians from eight local schools came together to enjoy a fantastic day of music-making in a series of orchestral and choral workshops. The young musicians also enjoyed rehearsing in a range of ensembles including string, brass, woodwind and jazz. The event culminated in an evening concert for families and friends, including a rousing rendition of the Anvil Chorus from Verdi’s Il Trovatore, which brought a wonderful day of music to a close.
ISSP SCIENCE DAY Hampton’s annual ISSP Science Day welcomed 53 Year 9 pupils from five local partner schools to participate in a range of exciting and interactive experiments. The partnership event provided pupils with a fun and informative opportunity to learn about Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and explore Science beyond the curriculum. The aspiring scientists took part in a Chemistry lesson investigating exothermic and endothermic changes in chemical reactions. In Biology they examined the effect of pH on digestive enzymes, and in Physics they constructed hot air balloons to explore the concept of upthrust.

ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT Hampton School works with several local primary schools offering support across Maths, English and Science. For example, our Chemistry teachers run a Science Sparks programme which gives Year 5 pupils an opportunity to apply their scientific knowledge and understanding to a range of activities they would ordinarily only come across at senior school.
Lion Learning is a fun and exciting 12-month programme supporting the progression of able pupils, some of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds. Led by specialist teachers from Hampton School, the young learners explore English, Maths, Philosophy and Science through a range of inspiring and thought-provoking activities, alongside a dedicated Reading Challenge and an academic vocabulary scheme.
Hampton School and its staff really build confidence in children. My son found it really helpful. Parent, Crane Park School In 2023, a total of 38 Year 5 pupils from seven local primary schools enjoyed regular lessons on a Saturday morning taught by members of the Hampton Common Room and supported by Sixth Form Mentors.
TALK!
The Hampton School Talk! programme is a superb opportunity to hear from distinguished speakers from all walks of life. The initiative aims to enlighten and entertain while broadening the horizons of the audience. Pupils from local partner schools regularly attend the diverse range of talks. Speakers in 2022-23 included author Tim Marshall and the Shadow Foreign Secretary, David Lammy MP.
Both myself and the students found the talk sobering and illuminating in equal measure, and it certainly gave the students food for thought. Sam Martin, Head of History, Twickenham School

The young actors showcased their comic timing perfectly in the fast-paced performance. This was Hampton School’s first joint production with neighbouring school Hampton High, a partnership which will continue with future musical and drama performances.
COMMUNITY CONCERTS Hampton musicians contributed to a range of community musical events last year, from the Consort of Voices performing at the Graham Child Christmas Carol Concert in aid of Kidscape, to our woodwind ensembles entertaining residents at Park Lodge House and Linwood Care Home. Thank you so much for spending time with the elderly residents at Park Lodge. It is greatly appreciated. Carer, Park Lodge House

WORKING WITH CHARITIES The Hampton community works with a range of local, national and international charities, from long-established links with overseas organisations to our annual Form Charity partners.
BORNEO
This year, Sixth Formers from Hampton and LEH visited Borneo. The 24 pupils spent several days working at a local primary school building a new car park for the community. The group also visited the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Sepilok, a conservation charity with which Hampton has built up strong links. Everyone was delighted to see the orphaned orangutans thriving in the nurseries and hear about the success stories of those recently released back into the wild. Hampton donated over £3,000 to the centre to fund much-needed veterinary equipment. The visit to Borneo continues a long tradition of overseas expeditions where the focus is on community partnerships alongside adventure.

CHARITY QUIZZES
SECOND YEAR CHARACTER DAY Second Year pupils dressed as a range of literary figures for the annual Book Character Day, which once again proved a fun opportunity to promote reading and raise funds for our Form Charity partners.
Hamptonians raised money for this year’s Form Charities by putting their general knowledge skills to the test in a range of quizzes, including the hotly-contested annual Christmas Quiz with pupils from LEH.
BAKE SALE The Charity Bake Sale is a popular event in the school calendar. Pupils baked an array of tasty cakes, cookies and muffins, and raised hundreds of pounds in support of our chosen charities.
