The exceptional cultural, artistic and sporting experiences on offer at the School are essential elements of the balanced, all-round education which Hamptonians enjoy. Our extensive co-curricular programme ensures that the boys’ academic studies are enhanced and enriched by opportunities beyond the classroom. From First Year to Upper Sixth, Hampton boys are actively encouraged to get involved and the wide range of clubs and societies provide something for everyone. These activities are integral to the School day, and offer boys the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills along with the determination, resilience and confidence required to flourish at School and beyond. The generous lunch period allows plenty of time for everything to be accommodated during the School day. Boys travelling from across London, Middlesex and Surrey via the coach network can participate fully and still arrive back home in good time. Clubs meet throughout the School year and new activities are introduced regularly reflecting new interests and enthusiasms within the School community. Boys will often establish groups for themselves and are encouraged to do so. The aim of this booklet is to give you an insight into the School’s co-curricular programme but it is not an exhaustive list of the activities available. Nevertheless, we hope it will give you a flavour of life at Hampton outside the classroom and please explore our website www.hamptonschool.org.uk for further information.
OVERVIEW
CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMME
CLUBS&SO CLUBS & SOCIETIES We are extremely proud of the energy and variety of clubs and societies at Hampton. Around 50 clubs and societies flourish at Hampton, providing an opportunity for boys to try something new and develop their existing skills to a higher level. We encourage all our boys to make the most of these rewarding activities and to contribute to the broader life of the School.
SOCIETIES A d v e nt u r e S o c i e t y
Rock climbing, water sports, orienteering, camping, paintballing, mountain biking and scuba diving are just a few of the many activities organised by the ever-popular Adventure Society. Designed to challenge boys mentally and physically, the trips and activities also help boys develop their leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively. Expeditions are offered every two years to Malawi and Zambia for boys in the Third to Fifth Year while in the intervening years, the Sixth Form head to a variety of locations including Namibia, Borneo and Malaysia. These trips provide an opportunity to experience new cultures and undertake voluntary work in local communities.

Book Club The perfect club for avid readers who want to read more widely, Book Club is open to younger boys and is directed by senior boys. The club promotes modern fiction and stimulates discussion of texts beyond the taught curriculum.
Bridge One of the world’s most popular card games, Bridge is an excellent way to stretch your brain, hone your memory and make new friends. There are regularly four tables running and experience ranges from total beginners to School team standard.
CADCAM C l u b The computer aided design and manufacture club is open to boys in the Third Year and above and aims to develop a sophisticated use of the industry standard CAD software ‘Solidworks’. The 15-week course covers 2D and 3D computer modelling as well as use of a range of design equipment.
The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) contingent is open to boys from the Fourth Year upwards and is run jointly with The Lady Eleanor Holles School and Hampton Academy. Membership of the CCF develops leadership skills through training and promotes responsibility, selfreliance, resourcefulness, endurance and perseverance. Cadets can choose to join the Army Section or RAF Section and are expected to parade each Friday after School. A number of trips, activities, camps and expeditions are arranged throughout the year.

Hampton School’s Debating Society has been running for over 100 years and the clashes now witnessed in the Lecture Theatre each Thursday lunchtime would do any founding member proud. Sometime well-researched and rigorous, at other times more reliant on spontaneous wit, debates feature speakers from all Year Groups and attract enthusiastic audiences. The School also enters a number of national competitions including the Schools Mace and the Cambridge and Oxford Union competitions.
C h e ss Chess is hugely popular at Hampton. Players of all standards are welcome and, for the budding grandmasters and more competitive, matches are played after School on Fridays. It offers younger boys the opportunity to learn Mindfulness techniques and those who have completed the course the chance to use the practices they have learnt in lessons to increase their calmness and focus.
M o d e r n L a n g u a g e C l u bs Our French, German, Spanish and Mandarin Clubs are a fun way for younger boys to practise and reinforce their language skills in an informal setting, in particular their speaking skills. Packed full of games, music, cultural input, film clips and other exciting activities they also help boys gain an appreciation and understanding of other cultures. These clubs are usually run by our young native-speaker Language Assistants, who are always popular members of the School community.

Open to Lower Sixth boys, initial business ideas are assessed and the best teams selected for the national competition. COMMUNITY
COMMUNITY Our aim is for boys to leave Hampton as happy, educated and well-rounded young men with a sense of social responsibility and the desire to make a positive contribution to society. Community Service forms an integral part of life at Hampton and boys are involved in a wide range of activities throughout their School careers. Our links with the wider community and the opportunities for volunteering and charity work these offer, provide our boys with vital exposure, experience and understanding of the world beyond the School gates. Our Community Service programme takes many forms and we work both independently and in partnership with other organisations. Many boys work with young children either in local primary schools or help with trips and activities for children with learning difficulties.
Others assist teaching staff with our Saturday School for gifted and talented students from local primary schools. The boys also co-host a summer tea-party and a Christmas Party for elderly members of the Hampton community with girls from The Lady Eleanor Holles School. A number of Sixth Formers also take part in the joint Hampton/The Lady Eleanor Holles peer-mentoring scheme to assist Teddington School students gain better GCSE grades in Maths and English. All boys and staff are involved with the Form Charity initiative which aims to raise ÂŁ20,000 each year for a variety of local, national and international charities.
Funds are raised through a wide range of activities with recent events including a Lower School Great British Bake Off, Inter-Form World Cup Football tournament, Sixth Form fancy dress day, Two Penny Race, Hampton & LEH Quiz, Young Enterprise Challenge and 24 hour walk. Charities supported include Shooting Star Chase, Mary’s Meals and The Teenage Cancer Trust. Further afield, a number of older boys visit the Hampton Safe Haven in Malawi each year. The Safe Haven provides local children with a safe place to go and teaches them essential life skills. The boys help with teaching and practical tasks such as building, painting, ground clearance, repairing equipment and fetching water.
