LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Many of us come to the Hamptons seeking inspiration. Over the decades, the South Fork of Long Island has been a magnet for artists and writers, drawn to the golden light. Luminaries like John Steinbeck and Jackson Pollock found their muse here. Today, some of the most interesting and curious minds are attracted to the natural beauty, the vast farmlands, and the dramatic coastline. Leaving behind the noise of the city, we curate peaceful moments to relax with family and friends. There’s something special about this place that fuels our imagination and nurtures us to pursue our wildest dreams.

One of the joys of creating each issue of the magazine is the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most interesting minds of the Hamptons. Through interviews, I gain insight into their extraordinary worlds.

The theme for this issue is “Going for the Gold,” inspired by the summer Olympics taking place in Paris. East Hampton’s own Ralph Lauren outfits our United States athletes in their pursuit of excellence.

Keeping these ideals in mind, the magazine has embraced the notion that it’s not just about achieving the goal but about the pursuit itself. The process, the act of striving, and the experience of working towards an ideal reflect the highest level of commitment. This summer, we held these themes close as we worked on the magazine.

For this issue, I interviewed Joey Wölffer, who embodies the power of authenticity and encourages following one’s heart. She celebrates this year the 10th anniversary of Summer in a Bottle, the rosé she created as a team effort and that turned into a cultural phenomenon.

We spoke with Hamptons resident Eric Ripert, the executive chef of Le Bernardin, who is hailed as the number one chef in the world. The new cookbook of the Michelin-star chef, Seafood Simple, finds excellence in simplicity by making sensational recipes accessible to everyone.

I also had the pleasure of interviewing the CEO of Amplify Pictures, Joe Lewis, on his documentary, 100 Foot Wave. The acclaimed docu-series tells the story of big wave pioneer Garrett McNamara, who surfs waves over 100 feet tall. When asked about the central theme of the show, Joe said it was, “The power of a crazy idea that turned out to be right. The relentless passion for that.”

I want to thank our world-class brand partners for bringing this issue to life. Thank you to my wonderful team for their dedication and spirited contributions.

This issue also includes an insider’s guide to the East End. Our cover photo depicts Capt. Shannon Carleton, Yacht Kelpie’s owner and skipper, setting sail in the Hamptons. The image is a symbol of embarking on an adventure, heading out to sea and into the world.

This summer, with the Olympics taking place in Paris, we encourage you to allow yourself to dream big and pursue those dreams.

We hope you will follow our Instagram page (@HamptonsSocial) to discover new content all season long. Wishing everyone a wonderful summer in the Hamptons!

MARTYN LAWRENCE BULLARD’S DESIGN ODYSSEY FROM STAR STYLE TO PERSONAL PARADISES

Martyn Lawrence Bullard orchestrates spaces that not only reflect but make the dreams of his discerning clientele come true. With a portfolio that includes the homes of the Kardashians, RuPaul, Cher, Tommy Hilfiger, and Elton John, Bullard dares to defy convention. Whether they are executed in the sun-drenched Hamptons or in vibrant Hollywood, Bullard’s designs exude a timeless elegance. The designer invited Hamptons Social into his captivating world to talk about his latest book, Star Style

How do you adapt to or create the style of each of your clients?

MARTYN LAWRENCE BULLARD: For me, it’s very important to understand a client’s personality first in the process. That way, I can create something that is highly personal and becomes a mirror image of who they are and how they want to live. This makes my work fresh and original for each project and allows my staff and myself to be constantly challenged, always making the creative process fun and exciting.

How do you define “star style” and how can we discover our own?

BULLARD: “Star style” is something that comes from within. It’s individuality, it’s a belief in yourself, your taste, and an innate confidence in your own style.

When designing a home, do you have any rules you follow?

BULLARD : There should never be any rules in design. It’s all about creating in a way that feels original. I don’t believe in repetition, which is what rules demand. I design each project in a custom way that is 100 percent tailored to that client exclusively.

When shopping for antiques, is there a secret to finding treasures?

BULLARD: You never know when or where a treasure can be found. It could be at a flea market, a junk store, or even a high-end boutique. It’s all about the hunt. That’s the most exhilarating part of antiquing — never knowing exactly what you will find, where, or when.

How would you approach designing a Hamptons beach house?

BULLARD: Architecture always takes the lead. A house often tells me what it wants and how it should evolve. My conversation with the client should be about how they want to live, what the house will be used for, and what their dream home feels like. Once all these jigsaw pieces are put together, the perfect picture will reveal itself, and a Hamptons house will become a home that is the perfect place for that specific client.

What are your favorite spots in the Hamptons to visit, shop, and relax?

BULLARD: What I love about the Hamptons is that it’s everchanging. There is always a new spot, restaurant, or pop-up store. Sag Harbor holds a special place in my heart, with its quaint

architecture and fun vintage stores, and my favorite, Le Bilboquet restaurant. East Hampton is, of course, the most fashionable spot, with all the great shops in town and a very special Double RL store. Of course, Sunset Beach is a must-visit spot.

Can you describe one of your favorite houses you designed in the Hamptons?

BULLARD: I have designed several Hamptons houses, one especially for a fashion designer that not only captured the flavor of the brand but also had a very beach house casualness to it that was perfect to both relax and entertain. We used a mix of vintage furniture, modern art, linen, cotton, and woven seagrasses. It was chic and casual, but different because of the use of unexpected color combinations.

What are your tips for designing the backyard or pool area to entertain with ease while still feeling comfortable?

BULLARD: Outdoor spaces must feel inviting and, ultimately, extremely comfortable. I love to use double chaises, deep couches, lots of pillows, and even oversized floor pillows that can be scattered on the ground to add to the casual ambiance. Color is a vital ingredient in making your space personal. It’s a true reflection of character and style. Lighting is also an essential element to a garden. A glow

in the evening is a very special moment, whether there are lanterns hung from trees, candles in hurricanes on tables, or soft, radiant lighting buried in flower beds or bouncing off trees and shrubs.

What is your favorite hostess gift when you are visiting someone in the Hamptons?

BULLARD: As a lover of all things fragrant, I always like to bring a candle. I have my eponymous line so, often, I will take one of my own candles, one whose fragrance I know matches the hosts. I also buy a beloved candy called After Eights. They are delicious chocolate covered mint thins and always fun to add to any host gift as they make for the perfect after-dinner treat.

What has been the most outrageous request from a client?

BULLARD: I have had quite a few outrageous requests over the years. Most recently, the sex room has been a more common request. Due to the delicate nature of these requests, my clients’ identities remain private. But the most exotic of these rooms was designed to look like a black patent leather handbag, with quilted walls and gold-plated sex toys that matched the gold hardware of the purse.

GOOP’S BEAUTY ICON: JEAN GODFREYJUNE ON CLEAN BRANDS, BODY RITUALS, AND BEACH BAG ESSENTIALS

Atrue icon of the beauty industry, GOOP’s executive beauty editor Jean Godfrey-June has worked for almost 10 years alongside Gwyneth Paltrow to establish the brand as a forerunner in terms of clean beauty, helping redefine global beauty standards along the way. Here, she shares with Hamptons Social her tips and tricks for a GOOP-approved stay in the Hamptons, what she’s packing in her summer beach bag, and how she and her team curate the brand’s assortment each season.

Over the years, you’ve become synonymous with the term “beauty icon.” What is your philosophy on beauty?

Life is beautiful, and people are beautiful, and people feeling beautiful are the most beautiful. If there’s an activity (for me, it’s yoga) that makes you think, “What a great body I have,” do it. If there’s a beauty item (for me, it’s the GOOP vitamin C serum) that just makes your skin glow from within, that’s your product.

How has the evolution of beauty standards influenced your editorial choices at GOOP?

As beauty standards have become more inclusive, more people now see themselves as beautiful. Featuring diverse ethnicities, body types, and cultural backgrounds helps advance those standards. I’ve focused on that in my career, and certainly here at GOOP.

Could you share an encounter that particularly impacted your personal or professional outlook on beauty?

By watching top artists at work — Dick Page, Bobbi Brown, Gucci Westman, Sally Hershberger, Marie Robinson, Frédéric Fekkai — you see how they look at their clients. Looking at them is the key — they search for what they should bring out in the person. A lot of beauty focuses on transformation, going from bad to good. When you’re in the hands of a true superstar — facialists like Tammy Fender, top dermatologists like Amy Wechsler, Robert Anolik, or Macrene Alexiades, or a plastic surgeon like Julius Few — it isn’t about transformation, it’s about bringing out what’s beautiful in the person. I appreciated when Ryan Reynolds, asked about the training for a particular superhero movie and if he kept it up after the movie said, “F*ck no! It was torture! I sat on my couch and slept and ate afterwards!” An antidote to all the gorgeous people who credit drinking “lots of” water for the reason they look so good.

What does clean beauty mean to GOOP and why is it important?

Gwyneth says it best: “Where’s the luxury in wondering whether a product might harm your health?” It’s as simple as that. We believe all beauty products should be clean — meaning free of ingredients known or suspected to harm our health.

We have a team of scientists who vet the ingredients that go into our products, as well as the ingredients in the products from other companies that we sell. The allowed-ingredients list is always evolving, as new research comes out and new studies are done.

You’ve been a guiding force in introducing lesser-known beauty brands to a broader audience. What do you look for in a product before deciding to feature it in GOOP?

At GOOP, we see beauty as wellness. So, our first lens is, does it meet our (admittedly tough) standards for clean? The second is, does it make me feel great in my skin? Does it make my life more beautiful, in the larger sense of the word?

Could you share a beauty ritual or product that you believe is underrated but deserves more recognition?

The brilliant Erica Chidi taught us this exercise during the pandemic, and it’s stuck with me: spend a few minutes alone naked in the morning. You can dry brush or smooth on body cream or oil, but there’s something in just being naked with yourself that boosts mood, confidence — everything. Didn’t Benjamin Franklin used to do it? I think he called it “air bathing.”

Can you tell us about the collaborative nature in which you work with Gwyneth?

Women in our culture are conditioned to try to please everyone — an impossible task. Since I’ve been at GOOP (I started in 2015), cultural reactions to GOOP and Gwyneth have been on a constant rollercoaster. Watching her react to both the bad and the good — not taking it personally, not trying to change herself or her company to suit public opinion — has been one of the great lessons of my life. She really, deeply accepts that people are going to love or hate her and doesn’t let that affect who she is or what she does.

Can you tell us about GOOP’s presence in the Hamptons and why it is a perfect place for the brand?

Gwyneth spends every summer in Amagansett, so the Hamptons are part of the relaxed, luxurious ethos of the brand. We started having pop-ups and stores here early on, and the Sag Harbor store really took off during the pandemic. We’d been planning to close as usual in the fall, and demand was so high that we’ve just stayed open ever since.

What do we have to look forward to this summer in the Hamptons with GOOP?

As usual, there are fantastic events and trunk shows going on all the time at the Sag Harbor store. Gwyneth throws a big party out here every summer and this year, it may be related to something chic we’re doing around her love of French pharmacies, so stay tuned!

JEAN’S BEACH BAG ESSENTIALS

• The Forah SPF 30 and Le Prunier Plumscreen SPF 31, the best, easiestblending, clean sunscreens that don’t damage coral, don’t damage me, feel so silky going on, and come in chic, portable aluminum tubes. You have to try them to see how incredibly superior they are.

• A Lack of Color terrycloth bucket hat.

• I love linen nightgowns by The Sleeper as beach cover-ups.

• The GOOP tinted lip balm — I buy the three-pack and alternate depending on my mood.

• The Entomologist by Heretic Parfum, which is kind of a serum, incredible-smelling perfume that somehow also repels bugs. Bugs hate me but they love my companions.

• Pre-beach-bag, I self-tan with the chic, easy-blending, fast-drying Saltyface foaming tanner. My trick is to apply it with a mitt — Saltyface doesn’t sell them, but many other brands do. The combination is perfection.

JEAN’S INSIDER GUIDE TO THE HAMPTONS

• Staying at the Reform Club is like having your own, super-luxe Hamptons cottage, complete with assistants who will build you a fire in the tiled fireplace, bring you breakfast, etc. Both the buildings and gardens are gorgeous. Not to mention the enormous, indulgent bathrooms. Plus, you can walk or bike down to the beach and never have to drive.

• Amber Waves has to be the most glamorous farm on the planet. Everything is delicious and wandering around or picnicking in the gardens is so fun.

• The clams and cocktails at Il Buco al Mare are the most delicious in the world.

• The bread at Carissa’s is beyond.

• Look up from your book when at the beach: you will probably see whales spouting — they have really moved in in the last few years.

• The outdoor workouts at Shou Sugi Ban are epic, but swimming in the ocean and walking or running on the beach are the thing.

• My favorite place for a celebratory dinner is on the beach, when there’s a full moon (with lobster rolls from The Lobster Roll Restaurant aka LUNCH). Also, Coche Comedor.

• Favorite beach is Egypt Beach — it’s just the prettiest.

• Favorite stores to go shopping? GOOP Sag Harbor, Love Adorned, and Henry Lehr.

• Best date spot is Il Buco al Mare.

• Favorite spa? Shou Sugi Ban. One of my all-time favorite spas and a total escape.

• A trip to the Hamptons isn’t complete without visiting The Long House — Jack Lenor Larsen’s onetime home and now just the most spectacular garden. goop.com

MICHELIN STAR CHEF ERIC RIPERT DISHES ON HAMPTONS LIVING AND HIS COOKBOOK SEAFOOD SIMPLE

Hamptons Social caught up with chef Eric Ripert, the culinary visionary behind New York’s celebrated Le Bernardin. Chef Ripert’s gastronomic talent knows no bounds, with a trio of Michelin stars and Le Bernardin named by La Liste as the number one dining destination in the world. A longtime resident of Sag Harbor, Ripert shares the inspiration behind his new cookbook, Seafood Simple, techniques for grilling tuna and salmon to perfection, and the delicacies he always has in his refrigerator.

What is the significance of Le Bernardin being named number one restaurant in the world?

ERIC RIPERT: It’s the ultimate compliment, as well as a huge encouragement for the team at Le Bernardin and myself, to keep pursuing our passion to create a special experience for our guests.

What inspired you to write Seafood Simple?

RIPERT: Cooking seafood can be challenging. The book teaches you everything, from purchasing the seafood to cooking it. It takes you step-bystep to make sure you are successful.

Can you share some techniques for grilling fish?

RIPERT: When using a grill, try to choose fatty fish like tuna or salmon, and marinate it with a bit of oil and seasoning before cooking it. Next, brush the fish with some oil and make sure the grill is very hot. This will keep the fish from sticking. Then, put the fish on the grill, flip it with a spatula, and serve tuna and salmon rare or medium rare.

What is a great seafood dish to serve if you are cooking for a crowd?

RIPERT: Tuna is like steak — perfect if you have a lot of guests. When you take the tuna off the grill, top it with a vinaigrette of soy sauce, chopped ginger, shallots, lime juice, and lemon juice. It makes for a great summer dish.

What should we look for when we buy seafood?

RIPERT: If you go to a seafood store and it smells like low tide, it’s not a good sign. There should be no smell. When you buy a filet of fish, it should be translucent, not white or opaque. Otherwise, it means that the fish has been in the store for too long. Salmon should look vibrant, and tuna should be bright red, not brown.

If I dropped by your home and opened your refrigerator, what would I find?

RIPERT: I always have good French cheese, yogurt, salad, carrots, onions, avocados, and chips for guacamole if friends stop by, as well as lots of champagne.

In your autobiography, 32 Yolks, you write about how your mother always set a beautiful table. Is the presentation as important as the meal?

RIPERT: Yes, I believe it is. My mother was passionate about making sure the table was always beautifully dressed, with china, a tablecloth, flowers, and that the food was well presented. It creates a mood. When I see people eating on plastic plates, it breaks my heart. It takes five minutes to have a wonderful experience rather than just swallowing the food.

As a longtime Sag Harbor resident, what do you love most about the Hamptons?

RIPERT: I love that I can live and work in an intense, high-energy city like New York, and in two hours, be in the middle of the countryside, close to the ocean. There are also great restaurants and the local shopping is wonderful.

Do you have a garden?

RIPERT: I love my herb garden. I grow sage, oregano, thyme, rosemary, flat and curly parsley, cilantro, tarragon, basil, and chives.

What is your secret to making the perfect summer gazpacho?

RIPERT: I cut the cucumber, onion, garlic, and tomatoes and let them marinate together for a few hours in a bit of olive oil. Then, I add a bit of salt and pepper, blend the ingredients in a food processor, and add a bit more olive oil. Tomatoes are very sweet, especially in late summer, so I add some sherry vinegar for acidity.

What do you cook when you are at home in Sag Harbor?

RIPERT: I create meals based on what catches my eye at the fishmongers and the farm stands. I love selecting the freshest fruits and vegetables from local markets, letting the seasons guide my dishes.

THE BEST FRENCH FOOD IN THE HAMPTONS

Are you in the mood for some exquisite escargots and the perfect steak tartare? Or perhaps you’re still dreaming of that delicious French onion soup with perfectly crisp bread you had on your last trip to Paris? Thankfully, we’re here to satisfy your next craving. Here’s where you can find the best French food in the Hamptons — no red eye necessary. Bon appétit!

Enchanté

This season, Southampton’s Red Bar is reimagined as Enchanté, a French-inspired bistro whose signature items include the Enchanté custom blend burger and crab caviar and French classics such as onion soup and Salade Lyonnaise. HLC Creative Group surfed on nostalgia with a warm and cozy color palette, textured linens, and silver and brass accents. A semi-private dining room welcomes celebratory moments, while a seat at the bar ensures front row access to classic cocktails and pours of wine, both old world and new. Enchanté, 210 Hampton Rd, Southampton

Bistro Été

Walk into Bistro Été and you will feel as if you had just stepped into a hidden gem on the coast of France. Chef Arie Pavlou not only received his formal training at Le Cordon Bleu, but also worked under twoMichelin-star chef Philippe Da Silva in Provence, so you might say he knows a little something about French cuisine. If you’re still in doubt, just try the foie gras or escargots. Bistro Été, 760 Montauk Hwy, Water Mill

Vin Sur Vingt

Vin Sur Vingt is Sag Harbor’s ultimate French wine bar. Though you may have already been to one of its popular locations in New York City or Washington, D.C., there’s still plenty to explore all summer long. Not only can you choose from a selection of over 250 wines, but the menu is regularly updated to highlight the specialties of each French region. Our favorite part? Knowing that Vin Sur Vingt’s ambience and food are both inspired by owner Sébastien Auvet’s beloved French grandmother.

Vin Sur Vingt, 29 Main St, Sag Harbor

Pierre’s

Guests have described Pierre’s as St Barths, Buzios, and Saint-Tropez all rolled up into one. Established in May 2002 by Pierre Weber, the restaurant has been open every day since — that’s how worthy of a stop it is. The bottom line? No matter what day of the year you have a hankering for fine French food, you know Pierre’s can satisfy your craving. And every day of the week, you will find a new French special on the menu — moules “Poulette” and pommes frites on Monday anyone?

Pierre’s, 2468 Main St, Bridgehampton

Le Charlot

Another Upper East Side institution, Le Charlot has finally — and thankfully — settled out in the Hamptons. Owned by the Gelormini brothers, the French bistro welcomes you in with cozy vibes and comforting food, making you feel as though you are part of the family. Pro tip: Don’t forget to order dessert. From the crème caramel to the crème brûlée to the tarte tatin, every classic is better than the last, making for a true celebration of the art of French pâtisserie. Le Charlot, 36 Main St #4811, Southampton

Almond

Almond has been a Hamptons mainstay since 2001, when owners Jason Weiner and Eric Lemonides opened its doors to welcome guests into what quickly turned out to be a French local institution. The menu is market driven with an emphasis on French and Mediterranean cuisine, so you’ll be dining on anything from escargots to a mezze for two. The best part? The chefs do everything themselves, from hanging their own charcuterie to grinding their own sausage to smoking their own meat — they even dry age their own steaks. A meal here ensures the same experience you would get at a farm-to-table estate in the South of France. Almond, 1 Ocean Rd, Bridgehampton

THE BEST TASTING ROOMS IN THE HAMPTONS

From world-class producers like Wölffer Estate Vineyard to quaint distilleries off the beaten path like the Sagaponack Farm Distillery, the Hamptons offer a wide range of unique places to sip on a taste of summer.

Wölffer Estate Vineyard

If you’re looking for a formal experience, make a reservation at Wölffer Estate’s tasting room, off Sagg Road, where you’ll enjoy award-winning wines paired with artisanal cheese and small bites. On Montauk Highway, the Wine Stand at Wölffer Estate offers a more casual, family-friendly ambiance. We recommend packing your picnic blankets and beach chairs to hit the stand just before sunset on Fridays. Each week, a crowd wearing long floral dresses and sunhats gathers to enjoy an abundance of wines and ciders, and to take in the joyous summertime vibe.

139 Sagg Rd, Sagaponack | 3312 Montauk Hwy, Sagaponack

Channing Daughters Winery

Channing Daughters produces wines from over two dozen varietals of grapes grown on its twenty-eight acres of vines. The staff of the small winery — also home to a cozy tasting room — pride themselves on the quality of the products, all exclusively local and homegrown.

1927 Scuttle Hole Rd, Bridgehampton

Westhampton Beach Brewing Co.

Westhampton Beach Brewery is “bringing the beach to everyone.”

Promoting local sustainability, the company prioritizes an environmentally conscious approach to sourcing ingredients. Specializing in draft beer, it has stunning sunset views and is kid and dog friendly. Bonus point? It contributes to Long Island charities.

220 Roger’s Way, Ste 1, Westhampton Beach

Sagaponack Farm Distillery

Off the beaten path, the Sagaponack Farm Distillery is a hidden gem in the heart of a 1930s farmstead. The idea for a distillery and tasting room was birthed when sixth-generation farmer siblings Marilee and Dean Foster sought to preserve their family farm by crafting spirits from crops grown on the same land. In May 2017, Sagaponack Farm’s first potato-based vodka was born. Now, the distillery produces spirits such as straight bourbon, wheat and cucumber-infused vodkas, gin, and rhubarb liquor, among other creations.

11 Spring St, Sag Harbor

Kidd Squidd Brewing Co.

In the heart of Sag Harbor, this tasting room offers a range of meticulously crafted — and creatively named — brews, with a brandnew beer on tap every moon cycle. It is located right next-door to the Sag Harbor Garden Center, where beautiful flowers overflow from hanging pots, weaving onto the picnic tables. With acoustic live music most nights and Trivia on Tuesdays, the ambience at Kidd Squidd truly is unmatched.

541 E Lake Dr, Montauk

Montauk Brewing Company

In the warmer months, the space outside Montauk Brewery is brimming with patrons enjoying tasty hard seltzers, IPAs, ales, and hard seltzer lemonades. Founded by three high-school friends and Montauk natives, the microbrewery and taproom have been drawing a devoted following since their opening in 2012. Stop by for a tasting and pick up some signature branded glassware, hats, and hoodies.

CRAFTING LUXURY: HÅNDVÆRK

COMES TO SOUTHAMPTON

In 2013, Petra Brichnacova and Esteban Saba combined their passion for artisanal skills with their love for minimalist aesthetics to create Håndværk — a brand now synonymous with luxurious essentials mindfully crafted with sustainability at their core. From their modest beginnings to inaugurating their new store on Main Street in Southampton, this dynamic husband-and-wife duo has masterfully redefined the essence of embracing simplicity while maintaining uncompromised quality. Brichnacova and Saba discuss with Hamptons Social the origin of their brand’s name, their process for sourcing the brand’s soft and luxurious materials, and their top outfit recommendations from Håndværk to enjoy in the Hamptons.

How did the two of you first cross paths?

ESTEBAN SABA: I was having breakfast at Cheese Shoppe in Southampton Village when Petra walked in. She managed Waldmann Inc. a few doors down and had a Ziplock of petty cash from the store. I had to talk to her, so I said, “I really love your purse.” While she seemed unimpressed by my attempt at humor, we were married a few months later in an intimate town hall wedding in Southampton.

What is the significance behind the name of the brand?

SABA: “Håndværk” is Danish for “craft” or “handicraft.” The name reflects the brand’s commitment to a deep-rooted cultural tradition that celebrates highquality, sustainable, and meticulously crafted products.

What is it like working together as a couple?

BULLARD: Petra and I have learned quite a bit about balancing our personal and professional lives as we grow and cultivate our brand together. A key element is that we have our defined roles — I oversee the administrative and operation aspect while Petra drives the brand’s creative side.

How do you source the brand’s exceptionally soft and luxurious materials?

SABA: We use two exceptional fibers for most of our garments: Peruvian Pima cotton, and alpaca wool. BEYOND THE COVER: CRAFTING BESPOKE LIBRARIES WITH THATCHER WINE & JUNIPER CUSTOM

In the world of bespoke libraries, Thatcher Wine emerges as a visionary for literary spaces. With his company, Juniper Custom, he has worked alongside esteemed clients such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Shonda Rhimes, orchestrating book sets, collections, and entire libraries with meticulous curation and exquisite design. In an intimate conversation with Hamptons Social, Wine offers a glimpse into his unique literary space, where each shelf exudes elegance, and where every volume has a story to tell.

How did this journey into the realm of literary luxury begin?

THATCHER WINE: I’ve always loved buying old books, researching them, and telling their stories. Over time, interior designers and homeowners asked me to curate and design book collections for them. Since then, I have curated thousands of projects and created custom book jackets in every style one could dream up.

What is a Juniper Custom library?

WINE: Juniper Custom works with homeowners, interior designers, and hospitality properties to curate and design book collections and libraries — anything from a one-of-akind gift to a dream library.

When you meet with a client, what is the process?

WINE: First, we look at the dimensions of the bookshelves and the flow of the space around them. For a bookshelf mural for example, there is a lot of math involved. We also learn about our clients’ interests, such as their favorite books and authors and the subjects they would like to highlight on their shelves. Then, we talk about colors, sizes, binding materials, spine typography, art, and everything we need to design the ideal library.

Are you choosing the books for your clients, or do they have their own?

WINE: Some clients own the books they want on their shelves, and we give them a fresh new look. But most clients have us choose the books. I think of it as buying the best editions of the books that our clients would have purchased if they had the time to source them. Often, they want books that will inspire their children and grandchildren to read.

What type of library works well in the Hamptons?

WINE: While you’ll find some “beach reads” on the shelves, there is a lot of depth and sophistication on the coffee tables, and in the kitchen, bedrooms, and living areas. A typical Hamptons project includes cookbooks and features books about wine, entertaining, art, travel, and more serious, classic literature. Jane Austen is perennially popular in the

Hamptons — it’s too bad she never got to visit.

Since the libraries are works of art, can you just take a book off a shelf and read it?

WINE: Books are meant to be read, so we create shelves that feel inviting, organic, and natural. Sometimes, we integrate book sets with family photos across the spines, or a favorite quote, but they are accents. If books with custom jackets make up the design, a number is printed on the inside flap to indicate where to return it after reading!

What types of libraries do your celebrity clients request?

WINE: Whether we’re curating a collection of art books for Gwyneth Paltrow’s living room, an assortment of literary classics for a software billionaire’s yacht, or making custom jackets in a blue ombre for a beachside hotel, we always pay attention to the intricate details and make every book feel like it just belongs there.

What is the most unusual library you have done?

WINE: We had a client ask us to assemble the complete works of a popular romance author that they had gone to high school with (about 60 books) before the author came to visit. When I found hardcovers in excellent condition, my client looked at them and said, “She’ll never believe I read them!” So, we replaced the new books with a mix of dog-eared and well-worn paperbacks and gave her a list of talking points for their reunion.

EXPLORING THE THRILLS OF

100 FOOT WAVE

with Executive Producer Joe Lewis

At the helm of HBO’s Emmy-winning docuseries 100 Foot Wave, executive producer Joe Lewis weaves together a journey of human ambition, natural wonder, and technical prowess. Set against the majestic backdrop of Nazaré, Portugal, where titanic swells rear up from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean, this gripping narrative explores the relentless pursuit of the seemingly impossible.

With a blend of adrenaline-fueled adventure and profound human spirit, the series follows bigwave pioneer Garrett McNamara on his quest to ride waves towering over 100 feet tall. His journey transcends the boundaries of conventional surfing, inviting audiences into a realm where courage, perseverance, and the boundless power of nature converge. McNamara’s unwavering dedication has inspired countless others, including Long Island big wave surfer Will Skudin, to take on the monumental waves of Nazaré. With the upcoming release of season three, Lewis, who is CEO of Amplify Pictures, which produces 100 Foot Wave, spoke to Hamptons Social about the serendipitous way he was first introduced to the project, his insider guide to Nazaré, and his fascination with the show’s central theme: the power of a crazy idea that turned out to be right.

When did the concept for 100 Foot Wave first cross your path?

My wife’s second cousin is married to one of the biggest big wave surfers in the world. Her names is Nicole, and her husband is Garrett [McNamara], who ended up becoming the focus of the show. I hadn’t met them before, and they reached out to my wife and asked if they could get advice on an idea they were thinking about. Then, they asked me if I’d produce it. I had known the director, Chris Smith, for a number of years. I brought the project to him and we had a call with Garrett and Nicole. We started shooting two weeks later.

What was it like the first time you traveled to Nazaré and saw a massive wave?

It’s like traveling and seeing one of the great buildings or sites of the world. You’re thinking, “how does this exist?” There is a 500-year-old lighthouse perched above these giant waves coming at you and there is a sort of amphitheater built in naturally. When the waves hit and you’re up by the lighthouse, they sound so loud.

Before shooting 100 Foot Wave, how much did you know about surfing?

Very little. I think the fact that the director and I weren’t surfers was one of the things that helped us tell the story. We had to explain things to both us and the audience. The truth is that, in the show, there’s a lot more human drama than surfing.

What surprised you about making the docuseries?

The original intention was that it would be a movie. Then Chris, the director, had the great idea to just try putting main and end titles every 45 minutes to see if it would work as a series and, instantly, it was clear. Also, I think that what’s amazing about the show is that it started as an archival documentary, and it became a “verité” documentary. We went from putting together a story out of something in the past to creating something about the present.

What are some of the biggest themes of the show?

The power of a crazy idea that turned out to be right. I think it’s hard to imagine dedicating your life to trying to do something that truly might not even exist. The relentless passion for that. The idea of letting go of fear is also a great theme.

There’s a good quote from the first season, “Everybody thought I was crazy, but I wasn’t. I had a plan.” And I feel like that’s just one of the best takeaways and themes.

Have you ever gone into the waves in Nazaré?

Yes, I went out. Garrett loves to give people a thrill. It was a 30- or 40-foot day. Garrett told me to get on the sled, which is where they pick surfers up. It’s attached to the back of the jet ski. And then, you’re just holding on. And there’s a mountain of water behind you. You also see rainbows out in the foam, or in the mist surrounding you. It’s a totally different view when you are looking up at a wave.

What is your insider guide to favorite local businesses in Nazaré?

There’s a great coffee shop I love called Cores e Sabores, which is where all the surfers go in the morning before they go look at the waves. At the top of the walkout to the lighthouse, there’s a bunch of food stands, and Le Petit Chef Belge is the first one — it has been there forever. There’s a 100 Foot Wave burger there, which is very good. Restaurante A Celeste is a spot from season one with great Portuguese food. I also highly recommend Esmeralda, as well as Maria Do Mar and Gelatomania.

What are the best months to visit for surfing?

The end of October to the beginning of March. It’s fun to be in a town where everyone’s focused on the same thing and talking about the swells, the weather, and the surf. A couple of days out, people start talking and then, it really starts gearing up. If it’s going to be huge, you start to see people flying in a few days before. There’s a big anticipation about it.

What do we have to look forward to in season three?

We get to expand the show out of Nazaré. There’s a place called Cortes Bank a hundred miles off the California coast. Before Nazaré was discovered — there’s a clip of this in season one — Garrett and others thought the hundred-foot wave would be in Cortes Bank. We also go to Hawaii.

Do you have a memory that stands out when being on location filming 100 Foot Wave?

My birthday is November 3 and that’s the beginning of the surf season. I had a birthday dinner in Nazaré last year — a bunch of the crew was there and Garrett and Nicole, who are family. My wife was also there, as well as a bunch of the surfers. It was super nice to go make a show where there’s really love for everybody.

JOEY WÖLFFER AND THE ESSENCE OF SUMMER

Celebrating a Decade of Iconic Rosé.

This summer, Joey Wölffer, co-owner and creative director of Wölffer Estate Vineyard, celebrates a decade of the winery’s most iconic creation — Summer in a Bottle. Wölffer shares with Hamptons Social the story behind the rosé’s inception, evolution, and the personal growth intertwined with its success.

Thinking about the birth of Summer in a Bottle, Wölffer recalls, “When my brother Marc and I took over, all my friends said that Wölffer is summer in a bottle.” This casual remark inspired a concept for an ad campaign that was a bottle of flowers. Roman Roth, Wölffer Estate’s winemaker and business partner, suggested they literalize the metaphor. “Everything we do is a team effort,” Wölffer says, underscoring the collaborative spirit at the heart of their success and her partnership with her husband, Max Rohn.

Wölffer did not predict that the release of Summer in a Bottle would launch a cultural phenomenon. “We just knew that rosé was growing as a category, and we loved the bottle. We only made 1,500 cases to start, but that sold out within three weeks. We are so lucky that our tasting room and wine stand act as a test for the market,” Wölffer says.

As a successful entrepreneur, philanthropist, equestrian, fashion designer, and mother, Wölffer’s approach to business and life is deeply rooted in integrity and passion. “Being authentic and following your heart comes with confidence and growth in your own career and life. You can’t make everyone happy, but if you believe and stay authentic to who you are, success will come,” she says.

Since its creation ten years ago, Summer in a Bottle has seen three different iterations, expanding Wölffer’s reach to 31 states and five countries. Wölffer’s personal evolution mirrors that of her brand. “So much has happened in ten years. I have two kids, we survived a

pandemic, I turned 40, and with that came confidence and ease that I am incredibly grateful for.”

Wölffer’s commitment to the community is evident through her involvement with Hamptons charities.

“The local establishments are the core of the community,” she says, highlighting her support for the Bridgehampton Center, which plays a crucial part in supporting local workers and their families.

In addition to the vineyard, Wölffer and Marc also took over the Wölffer Estate Stables, located on the 170-acre estate in the heart of the Hamptons. As a champion equestrian, Wölffer oversees the world-class stable facility.

A shared love for equestrian activities with her two daughters brings a sense of great joy. “Horses keep you young and connected to nature. It is such a privilege to share this together,” she says.

Wölffer’s passion for discovery and artisan work spills over into her boutique in Sag Harbor and at the wine stand, where she curates a collection of extraordinary pieces by hard-to-find designers mixed with worldly vintage finds along with her own creations. “My store is what keeps me creative and in touch with other industries,” she says.

With a decade of Summer in a Bottle behind her, it’s clear that Joey Wölffer has not only captured the essence of summer but also woven her narrative into the Hamptons’ cultural and entrepreneurial landscape. A blend of tradition and innovation, her story is a testament to the enduring allure of both the region and its most celebrated rosé. wolffer.com

AT HOME WITH LIZ LANGE: THE REVIVAL OF GREY GARDENS AND THE ART OF ENTERTAINING

Opposite: Liz Lange at Grey Gardens, by David Benthal.

Amid the storied walls of Grey Gardens in East Hampton, Liz Lange has cultivated a haven that extends beyond its botanical beauty. The historic residence, a symbol of both societal decay and resilient rebirth, now thrives under Lange’s stewardship — a place where history is entwined with elegance and hospitality.

Lange, known for her revolutionary approach to maternity fashion, has embraced a new chapter since acquiring clothing brand Figue in December 2020. “It was the middle of Covid, and I had heard that Figue was for sale.” Lange recalls. “I adored the brand and coincidentally found myself living full time at our house in Palm Beach rather than NYC and as such wearing my Figue dresses and Kaftans 24/7. They just felt comfortable and chic.”

Under her guidance, the ready-to-wear luxury fashion brand has gone from a resort-centric label to a year-round phenomenon. The collection exudes a jet-setter aura with a touch of ‘70s glam.

“We’re big on the idea of ‘approachable maximalism’ — statement prints, vibrant colors, and rich textures that come together in a way that’s both effortless and wearable,” says Lange. “It's about creating clothes that let you be your most colorful, confident self, no matter where the day takes you, and I believe that exemplifies the Hamptons lifestyle, as well.”

Lange’s designs are often inspired by a mood, a vibe, or an image of someone she finds chic. “For example, I’ll have Jackie O in my head and will ask myself, ‘What would Jackie wear?’ and the rest flows from there.”

Jackie Onassis and her sister Lee Radziwill were closely connected to Grey Gardens through their family ties to the Beales — Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter “Little Edie” were Jackie’s aunt and cousin, respectively. In the 1970s, Jackie and Lee helped finance the cleanup and restoration of the East Hampton mansion.

On her approach to entertaining, Lange begins with one of her gorgeous Figue tablecloths. “I see a tablecloth as your canvas. You build your table from there but the cloth you choose sets the mood and the tone.”

Lange’s table settings are dynamic yet intimate, avoiding large centerpieces in favor of a mix of smaller vases. “I place anything from 4 x 4” cups to bud vases all together on the table along with fun objects, perhaps silver shells and lots of candlelight both votives and candlesticks.” The most important thing for her is height. No flowers should ever block your sightlines. Figue’s newly launched collaboration with Zafferano lamps is a stylish addition to her tablescapes.

Grey Gardens itself is an ideal backdrop for Lange’s lavish yet laidback gatherings. “We made sure to have many different eating areas, our dining room for inclement weather, our back patio (my favorite

place) for beautiful summer nights, our ‘Indian Garden’ patio for when I want to mix things up. Even the pergola in our walled garden has been the setting for some more intimate summer soirées,” she says.

Lange typically begins a dinner party with drinks and canapes either in her sunroom with the doors open to the walled garden or in the walled garden itself. “We then move to dinner, typically on our back patio, and then to the living room for after dinner coffee, drinks, and petit fours,” she says.

Her most treasured pieces for entertaining include Christofle silver trays for passed canapés, big white bowls for family-style buffet dinners, her Maicorne Bourg-Joly scalloped, oversized white plates and lots of fun printed tablecloths and napkins.

But it is not just the aesthetics that make dinners at Grey Gardens memorable; it is also the atmosphere. “What brings me the most joy is the fun I have with my friends and the relaxed vibe.”

The most memorable meal? “Thanksgiving,” she says. “We typically have about twenty people, family and friends, and I love the cozy vibe with the fireplace going and the silly games we play.”

For Lange, the three ingredients of a successful dinner party are interesting people, delicious food and drink, but most importantly, a round table so that you can have one big group conversation.

Despite not believing in apparitions, Lange feels a profound connection to the historical legacy of Grey Gardens. “I don’t believe in ghosts, so I don’t feel them in the house,” she says, referring to the estate’s former inhabitants, Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edie. “But I am honored to be the caretaker of their beautiful home.”

Lange’s insider guide to the Hamptons reflects her deep connection to the area. From time spent on Georgica Beach, just steps from her home, to watcing the sunset or enjoying coffee from Tutto Caffé or Jack’s Stir Brew, her recommendations are infused with personal sentiment and local charm. She loves walks from her house to the town of East Hampton and back every morning and enjoying dinners outside at Le Bilboquet in Sag Harbor or on the lobster deck at Duryea’s Montauk.

Lange’s deep connection to Grey Gardens and the Hamptons is reflected in her meticulous restoration and refined entertaining, creating a sanctuary that honors both its storied past and vibrant present. Whether hosting intimate dinners or grand soirées, Lange continues to capture the essence of Hamptons living with every gathering. figue.com

FROM BEACH TO RUNWAY: SHOSHANNA GRUSS’S ICONIC FASHION JOURNEY

Since launching her eponymous brand in 1998, Shoshanna has been a trailblazer, introducing designs that flatter every figure while infusing a touch of playful elegance. Her innovative swimwear line, launched in 2000, revolutionized the industry with mix-and-match separates and lingerie-inspired sizing. A lifelong East End resident, Gruss shares with Hamptons Social a glimpse into her creative process, how she finds balance between being a mother and running a fashion label, and her insider guide to the Hamptons.

How have the Hamptons inspired your design aesthetic?

SHOSHANNA GRUSS: I am inspired by my life and my lifestyle needs. I have spent every summer of my life and most vacations on the beach. I’m a beach and nature lover — it inspires everything I do.

Throughout your career, you’ve championed designs that cater to diverse body types. What prompted you to take this direction?

SHOSHANNA: I created this line for myself. I couldn’t find clothing that was supportive for busty and curvy women, so I decided to fill a niche. Every piece of clothing is made with that in mind so our customers never have to question what type of bra to wear or if the garment will give them the support they need. I think the response has been positive because here we are, 26 years later!

Can you describe the muse for your latest collection?

SHOSHANNA Honestly, every collection is cooked up in my head months before; there is not just one inspiration. I can see a painting or an advertisement with a beautiful color story and save that to build a collection around. It usually starts with colors and prints, and we go from there — I generally love different versions of the same thing. I am a creature of habit, and my taste has stayed consistent since I was a teenager.

Who are some of the women in fashion that inspire you?

SHOSHANNA : My mother is my greatest female inspiration. She has always followed her own taste and sense of style. She is impeccable, not only in the way

she dresses but in her manners and heart — there is no greater inspiration to me.

Which of your collections felt like a turning point in your career?

SHOSHANNA: When we launched swimwear in 2000, it was about two years after I launched my initial collection. That put us on the map. We were the first contemporary brand to sell our tops and bottoms as separates, and mixed with our fun, feminine, and whimsical prints, we hit a nerve. Our cherry bikini was everywhere that year — in movies, in TV shows, in every magazine, and on every celebrity. It was a game changer for the brand.

What is your favorite go-to outfit for a night out in the Hamptons?

SHOSHANNA : I can’t wait to wear the Bree dress to a night out with friends, a beach party, or to go to a friend’s place for cocktails. I also love the Sisi or Sen, to name a few.

How about your go-to shoes in the Hamptons?

SHOSHANNA: I have many pairs of Castañer espadrilles, in probably 10 colors. They are perfect for the beach, the garden, and to drive. They’re my favorites.

What’s in your beach bag?

SHOSHANNA: A Shoshanna swimsuit and cover-up, of course. Probably a beach towel from Weezie, some fun jewelry from Jenna Blake, and some Sarah Happ beauty products.

Beach waves or pin straight hair?

SHOSHANNA: Both. It depends on how late I shower and how much time I have to dry my hair before going out.

Can you walk us through your creative process?

SHOSHANNA : I’m inspired by many different things, whether it be art, a trip, or a vintage piece. I am also very driven by small trim details and beautiful colors. We always start by building a color story around a print and, from there, we find the right fabrication to use and play around with, to see what silhouettes work best. I am always thinking about what I would want to wear and how it would look on all types of bodies. I always ask myself, ‘What will make a woman feel the most beautiful, sexy, and confident in?’ Every season is like starting from scratch, which I love.

How do you balance being a mother and running a fashion label?

SHOSHANNA : I don’t! If I have to make a choice, it’s always about the kids first. I have an awesome team that can always be there in a pinch. Really, there is zero me time, and that’s ok. I will rest one day; I fantasize about a bay window and all my books. That’s my dream ‘me time’ moment.

How is your brand addressing sustainability?

SHOSHANNA: We try our best to choose as many sustainable fabrics as possible and we do work with domestic factories for some collections. Most of our swim fabrics are 100 percent sustainable. It’s great to see that fashion is rapidly evolving with digital innovations.

What aspirations do you hold for the future of your brand and your personal journey?

SHOSHANNA: I have always been organic about the business and its growth. If it feels right, we do it. I never want to push. I like the size of our business and where we are at, and I think that is part of why we have been successful for so long. We are not everywhere all at once. In my 26 years, I have seen so many businesses explode and then combust. I like to think we are everyone’s tried-and-true.

Inside Shoshanna’s Hamptons Weekend Bag

Shoshanna shares her must-haves to dress for any occasion, including effortlessly chic outfits that easily transition from Main Beach to Sunset Beach.

What is your advice on packing the perfect weekend bag for the Hamptons?

Less is more. I would pick three great outfits: three dresses that can easily go from day to night, a pair of neutral Supergas that you can wear all day but that still look elegant, and a pair of sandals that I could wear from breakfast to dinner. It is all about accessories that act as multitaskers.

Any specific items you always love to include?

A sundress is always easy. You look pulled together and feel dressed up with minimal effort.

What is your advice for transitioning your outfit from a day on the beach to a night on the town?

Usually, a change of shoes, gold hoops, a brush through my hair, and I am off. Beachwear chic goes from day to night in my opinion.

DR. ANNA AVALIANI: PIONEERING "SKINVESTMENT" FOR AGELESS BEAUTY

Afavorite among celebrities and a trailblazer in her field, Dr. v Avaliani is redefining the landscape of cosmetic and laser surgery with a philosophy she calls “Skinvestment.” At the heart of this approach lies a commitment to viewing skin care as a vital investment in oneself, not merely an expense.

“Start early, be proactive,” she advises, emphasizing the importance of treating skin as an asset worthy of ongoing investment. Her holistic approach includes treating the skin on the face and body simultaneously, aiming to restore natural beauty without altering one’s fundamental essence.

“Skin health has a profound impact on one’s emotional and mental wellbeing,” Dr. Avaliani explains. The first thing we notice in the mirror each morning is our skin, and its condition can dramatically influence our self-confidence and mood. By maintaining healthy skin, Dr. Avaliani be lieves we not only feel more beautiful but also enhance our social interactions and overall lifestyle.

As a self-described “skin architect,” Dr. Avaliani takes a personalized approach to rejuvenation. She tailors each treatment to the individual, ensuring the foundation of good skin health is firmly laid before advancing with stateof-the-art techniques. Among her recommended treatments are UltraClear Laser-Coring rejuvenation, injectable moisturizers, and the use of human exosomes, which she believes are particularly effective in reversing the signs of aging.

Twenty-twenty-four holds new promises in the realm of anti-aging, according to Dr. Avaliani. She is excited about the potential of emerging technologies and treatments. “We are closer now than ever to realizing the fountain of youth,” she states, pointing to advances in stem cell research and the growing openness towards anti-aging discussion, both among celebrities and the general public.

The passion Dr. Avaliani feels for her work is palpable, especially when discussing the transformative experiences of her clients. “There’s a profound joy in seeing someone’s confidence blossom when they look in the mirror. It’s about making them look refreshed, never done,” she shares. For Dr. Avaliani, the greatest compliment is when the results are imperceptible to others, yet life-changing for the client. “They’re my works of art,” she adds.

Dr. Avaliani defines beauty as the confidence of being comfortable in one’s skin, without the need for makeup. She advocates for treating skin concerns at their root, rather than covering them up — a testament to her belief in authentic, lasting beauty.

Each treatment plan is highly personalized, crafted during in-depth consultations that consider everything from skin quality to lifestyle. “The magic starts with truly understanding the individual needs of each client,” Dr. Avaliani explains, highlighting the bespoke nature of her practice.

With summer approaching, Dr. Avaliani offers advice for achieving partyperfect skin. Her tips include advanced booking for skin tightening treatments and avoiding artificial tans. She recommends treatments like PicoSure for a radiant glow, TempSure Envi for painless skin tightening, and Emsculpt for body toning, ensuring her clients look their absolute best from head to toe.

In her free time, Dr. Avaliani enjoys the simple pleasures of beach walks around the Hamptons, lunches in Sag Harbor, and dinners at Nick & Toni’s — a perfect blend of professional dedication and personal enjoyment that defines her as not just a visionary in her field, but also a connoisseur of life’s finer moments.

ART OF EATING CHERYL STAIR ON THIS SUMMER’S TOP CATERING TRENDS IN THE HAMPTONS

Cheryl Stair, the sensational culinary mastermind behind Art of Eating Catering, has set the standard for high-end events in the East End with innovative and seasonal dishes. Here, she dives into the latest catering trends, shares her secrets for finding the freshest local ingredients, and reveals how her passion for unique, elegant cuisine transpires at every event she caters.

What are the top catering requests you are getting this summer?

This year, party trends are all about bells and whistles, with an emphasis on themes and unique activities. A popular request I’ve noticed is what I call “Dinner by the Bite.” Guests don’t want to sit at a table for a meal; everyone wants to move around. It allows more mingling, chatting, and flexibility to arrive late or leave early. It can be a five-hour party with dancing involved, starting with light hors d’oeuvres and gradually transitioning to heartier ones as the evening progresses, like a little linguini with lamb sauce on the half shell.

Where do you find inspiration when creating your menus?

My biggest inspiration comes from living out here, from the farmers markets. On the South Fork, I love GreenThumb, Amber Waves, Quail Hill Farm, Balsam Farms, and Mecox Bay Dairy. Sometimes, I’ll stop if I see a little old lady with a roadside stand. What does she have? Sometimes, it’s something unusual.

How would you describe the signature style of Art of Eating?

Things are different; you don’t see the same thing all the time. I aim for simple and elegant food. These two qualities go together, without overdoing it on flavors or ingredients, and it’s always seasonal.

What do you find most fulfilling about catering Hamptons events?

I always say our job is not to impress, it is to delight. When guests get a little surprised by how something is presented — for example, when a tray is done in a clever way — they love it.

How do you come up with new recipes?

I go out to eat, travel, read magazines, and look at old cookbooks because old things always come back — you just have to tweak them. Sometimes, I even dream up a new dish in the middle of the night.

TOP-RANKED PRIVATE WEALTH ADVISOR AND AUTHOR ROCCO CARRIERO ON ACHIEVING SUCCESS WITH THE “THREE CORDS APPROACH”

In the Hamptons, Rocco Carriero has distinguished himself not only as a top wealth manager but also as an author whose work resonates deeply with entrepreneurs and business owners. His innovative book, Three Cords Approach: To Life and Wealth Management For Business Owners, encapsulates a philosophy that blends personal fulfillment with financial success, a reflection of his roots as the son of an Italian immigrant and his profound understanding of the nuanced demands of his clientele.

Carriero’s passion for finance is profoundly personal, originating from a childhood desire to help others, and a sharp business acumen inspired by his father’s tailoring shop. “My father came to America in 1962 from Montescaglioso, Italy, a place in the relatively obscure region of Basilicata. Notably, it’s near the town Francis Ford Coppola’s grandfather came from,” says Carriero.

He fondly remembers observing his father’s interactions with customers, noting, “He was an exceptional listener. People would open up about their personal lives, and he would offer thoughtful insights.” From these early experiences, Carriero grasped the critical role of building relationships in business. His father’s example taught him invaluable lessons about the significance of providing quality advice, exceptional customer service, dedication, and the perseverance necessary to succeed.

“I have always had an interest in helping people,” Carriero shared, explaining that since the beginning of his career, he has been drawn to the complexities of business and the satisfaction of achieving goals. This foundational passion led him to become a guiding force for significant assets in one of America’s most luxurious regions.

Based in the Hamptons, Carriero has honed a specialized approach in managing the intricate financial landscapes of entrepreneurs, CEOs,

and business owners. “I deal more with after-tax investments, as well as high-level financial advice and planning around business sales, trust, and estate planning,” Carriero says. His strategies are customized, acknowledging that the financial affairs of his clients are as complex as the lives they lead.

The “Three Cords Approach” was born from Carriero’s observation of his most successful clients, who balanced their energies between family, self-care, and business — each a crucial component in life. “The business owners who put work and energy into being the best they could be in each of the three cords were the happiest and most fulfilled,” he notes, underlining that true wealth comes from a well-rounded life.

Carriero hopes his book will empower business owners to forge deeper connections with their families and communities, enhance their selfcare, and achieve greater business success. He also addresses common misconceptions about wealth, including the idea that substantial wealth eliminates financial concerns. “The number one misconception about people with substantial wealth is that they don’t worry about money,” he counters, stressing that wealth management is crucial regardless of the size of one’s assets.

To navigate today’s volatile economic landscape, Carriero emphasizes the importance of proactive planning.

“Staying ahead of the curve with regards to our clients and today’s volatile economic landscape can be done through our planning approach that looks at all of the potential challenges that could come your way,” he says, detailing his comprehensive method of addressing market fluctuations, expenditure, asset values, and potential life crises.

Among memorable client interactions, Carriero recalls a day spent driving a tractor and harvesting potatoes with a multi-generational potato farmer in the Hamptons — a testament to his hands-on, personalized approach. “I was doing such a great job and was having so much fun that I spent the full day in my suit plowing his fields,” he says.

For young entrepreneurs, he flags the importance of a solid financial foundation from the outset. “Make sure that, from day one, you have a solid financial plan, carve off a percent of your gross income, and save those dollars in a separate account for yourself,” he advises, prioritizing financial prudence alongside business growth.

Carriero is now working on a second publication.

“I’m excited about my next book, which is called Recipes for Retirement. It is going to be about wealth management for people just about to retire and for the ones who are already retired. What makes the book more fun is that woven into the chapters are great Italian recipes from my mother, who comes from Italy, as well as my wife, some aunts, cousins, and some famous Italian and Italian Americans,” he says.

Active in local charities and the community, Carriero extends his work beyond finance. He is involved with several organizations, including the Southampton Business Alliance and the Ellen Hermnason Breast Cancer Foundation, enhancing his connection to the region he serves.

Rocco Carriero’s approach to wealth management transcends financial advice, incorporating life’s broader values — a testament to his belief that the best measure of success is not just wealth accumulation, but the joy and fulfillment found in a life well-lived.

THE POWER OF LEGACY

Dr. Michelle Copeland and Dr. Libby Copeland-Halperin on Beauty, Bonds, and Brilliant Skin.

In the cosmetic industry, there are partnerships, and then there are legacies — like the remarkable collaboration between Dr. Michelle Copeland and her daughter, Dr. Libby Copeland-Halperin. This acclaimed duo has created one of the few mother-daughter plastic surgery practices in the nation, a rarity that highlights their exceptional skills and unique familial bond. Dr. Michelle Copeland and Dr. Libby Copeland-Halperin share with Hamptons Social tips for summer skincare, popular plastic surgery trends, and their definition of beauty.

How would you each define beauty?

DR. MICHELLE COPELAND: No two people share the same idea of beauty. I collaborate with patients to discover their goals, ensuring the reaction is, ‘You look terrific,’ rather than, ‘Who are you?’

DR. LIBBY COPELAND-HALPERIN: The goal is to look natural, like the best version of yourself. Patients often ask, ‘What do I need?’ and I respond, ‘Tell me what bothers you and let’s find the best treatment to fit your lifestyle and goals.’

What is it like being one of the few mother-daughter plastic surgery practices?

DR. COPELAND: It’s a joy working with Libby. I love my highly personalized practice and always dreamt of having Libby join me. I share my years of experience and she brings new ideas.

DR. COPELAND-HALPERIN: We share similar values regarding patient care, preferring a hands-on approach with patients from the initial consultation through the post-treatment period. It’s a perfect fit!

What are the biggest 2024 plastic surgery trends?

DR. COPELAND Patients are seeking natural results with minimal downtime, preferring to enhance their look rather than appear ‘overly sculpted.’ Minimal scar techniques to address areas like the face, neck, or arms help patients look rejuvenated with a quick recovery.

DR. COPELAND-HALPERIN: Patients want to look natural. More patients are asking about breast implant removal or breast augmentation using their own fat without an implant.

Do you offer procedures not typically offered by other practices?

DR. COPELAND: I have an expertise in calf and lower leg liposculpture to address what’s colloquially known as ‘cankles’ and have presented my

technique internationally. Many patients are frustrated by this area and feel self-conscious wearing shorts or have difficulty wearing boots.

DR COPELAND-HALPERIN: We perform limited-scar breast reduction. We also published together a study on the use of liposuction to remove lipomas to minimize scarring and downtime.

What are some of the most popular non-invasive procedures?

DR. COPELAND: Skin-tightening methods like Thermage and microneedling are popular. We often use these in combination with our stacking method of laser treatments for skin rejuvenation. Dr. CopelandHalperin and I personally perform every treatment, so we see in real-time how a patient’s skin responds and can customize treatment.

What are the benefits of massage therapy?

DR. COPELAND: Lymphatic massage is a specialized light-touch massage that we include with most of our surgical procedures to help speed healing and minimize downtime. Not all plastic surgeons incorporate lymphatic massage, but we think it plays a critical role in recovery as part of our holistic approach to patient care.

What is your connection to the Hamptons?

DR. COPELAND: We own a house in Bridgehampton and have been coming to the Hamptons for decades. It’s wonderful spending time with family in such a beautiful environment.

DR. COPELAND-HALPERIN: I’ve been coming to the Hamptons with my family as long as I can remember. I love the wonderful summer farmers’ markets!

How can we take care of our skin in the summertime?

DR. COPELAND: Sun protection is the most important thing you can do for your skin. Our sunscreen uses clear zinc oxide to provide PABA-free SPF coverage without clogging the pores. Good skincare needs to be done year-round. You brush your teeth every day and you need to care for your skin every day.

Dr. Copeland, in your book The Beautiful Skin Workout, you outline strategies to erase 90 percent of skin flaws in eight weeks, tailored to individual skin types. Could you share some skincare insights?

DR. COPELAND: Skincare regimens can be overly complicated. I’ve simplified the process: cleanse, exfoliate, activate with anti-aging products, moisturize, and protect.

You have an excellent full line of skincare products. Can you tell us more about it?

DR. COPELAND: As a plastic surgeon, I understand skin from the inside out. It’s not enough to merely tighten skin — it must also be healthy. Appropriate skincare before and after surgery is crucial. I was frustrated by products that failed to deliver results I wanted, so I used my Harvard biochemistry background to launch the first female plastic surgeon-created skincare line. I’ve formulated products that work synergistically and carefully select each ingredient to ensure our products are highly effective, gentle, suitable for all skin types, and allergy tested.

FROM JOHN STEINBECK TO ARTHUR MILLER: THE HAMPTONS’ LITERARY LEGACY

The Hamptons have long served as both muse and sanctuary for some of the most celebrated names in American literature. From the introspective solitude of John Steinbeck to the modern narratives of Colson Whitehead, the serene landscape of the East End has played a pivotal role in shaping literary masterpieces.

James Fenimore Cooper moved to Sag Harbor in 1818, working as a whaler. Legend has it he modeled Natty Bumppo, the hero of the “Leatherstocking Tales” series, after a local man he met in the village.

Herman Melville bought a house in Sag Harbor in 1850 and wrote Moby-Dick there. Every summer, Canio’s Books organizes an annual reading marathon of the classic novel with readings taking place in local institutions such as the historic John Jermain Library, where Melville spent a lot of his time.

Author John Steinbeck summered in Sag Harbor from 1955 until his death in 1968. The Pulitzer Prize winner (for The Grapes of Wrath) had a waterfront cottage named after his book, East of Eden — the cottage is now The Steinbeck House. Colson Whitehead, author of the novel Sag Harbor, was honorary chair of the Steinbeck capital campaign committee, which bought the Steinbeck property and turned it into a writers retreat. Steinbeck wrote The Winter of Our Discontent — set in a fictional town modeled on Sag Harbor — in the gazebo of the property while Bright Lights, Big City author Jay McInerney spent time on-site as well, saying he always felt something special when visiting.

Other writers who have called Sag Harbor home include Spalding Gray, who moved there in 1996 — Morning, Noon and Night details life in Sag Harbor Village. The Feminine Mystique author Betty Friedan lived down the street from E.L. Doctorow, and it’s rumored that The Silence of the Lambs author Thomas Harris couldn’t find a quiet space to write at his family home in Sag Harbor, so he rented a small apartment over Marty’s barber shop on Main Street. Here, Hannibal Lecter was born. All the President’s Men co-author Carl Bernstein bought a place in Bridgehampton in 1983; he has played in the annual summer tradition known as “The Easthampton Artists & Writers Charity Softball Game” since the 1970s. The boisterous game, which started in 1948, takes place this year on August 17. www.awgame.org)

Peter Matthiessen came out to fish while he worked on novels such as Men’s Lives: The Surfmen and Baymen of the South Fork. The book was adapted into a play by Joseph Pintauro and debuted at the Bay Street Theater in 1992. George Plimpton followed his pal Matthiessen to Sagaponack, buying a home on Town Line Road. Both could be found boozing at Bobby Van’s in Bridgehampton and Baron’s Cove in Sag Harbor (where a drink is named after Steinbeck) with the rest of a group known as the “Sagg Main Set” and included Kurt Vonnegut (Slaughterhouse-Five), James Jones From Here to Eternity), John Knowles A Separate Peace), and Truman Capote (In Cold Blood).

Playwright Edward Albee (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf lived in an oceanfront home in Montauk in the early 1960s until his death in 2016. Joseph Heller (Catch-22) had a house in Amagansett and could be seen eating with The Godfather author Mario Puzo at Barrister’s in Southampton (now Le Charlot). And John Irving, author of The World According to Garp chose his home of Sagaponack as the setting for his 1998 novel A Widow for One Year

During the summer of 1957, Amagansett’s 64 Deep Lane became the love nest of newly married Marilyn Monroe and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Arthur Miller. The windmill house, set on a five-acre property, is where Miller worked on several projects, most notably the short story The Misfits, which he later turned into a screenplay that would star his wife in her final and most critically acclaimed role.

QUOTES FROM FILMS AND TV SHOWS SET IN THE HAMPTONS

“Meet me... in Montauk...”

“If people would just look at the paintings, I don’t think they would have any trouble enjoying them. It’s like looking at a bed of flowers, you don’t tear your hair out over what it means.”

“Well, look what the cat dragged in. It’s the Maysles… I was just thinking about you. What brought you out to Grey Gardens?”

“Erica, you are a woman to love.”

“Also spotted: Serena Van Der Woodsen on Cooper’s Beach. Alone again. We’ve heard talk that things are heating up with Nate Archibald. And where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.”

“I’d have thought by this age, we might have figured more things out.”

“I wish you could see this. Light’s coming up. I’ve never seen a painting that captures the beauty of the ocean at a moment like this. I’m gonna make you rich, Bud Fox.”

“It’s like Jaws. If everyone in Jaws worked for Jaws. ”

“This could be the last summer that we can all get together and do something like this. I mean, next year, who knows? One of us could be married or have kids. And we will always regret that last summer that we didn’t spend together in the Hamptons.”

ANTONELLA BERTELLO AND THE ENCHANTMENT OF THE BAKER HOUSE 1650

Stepping into The Baker House 1650 in East Hampton is like walking through a portal to a bygone era that perfectly captures the essence of English heritage. Antonella Bertello, the effervescent owner, recounts the transformation of this architectural gem which, during the early 1900s, embodied the fascination of East Hampton for the British culture. “It’s very much an Elizabethan house; it echoes a time when the locals contemplated renaming East Hampton to ‘Maidstone,’ ” Bertello explains. The previous owners of the house aptly nicknamed the home, “As You Like It” after Shakespeare, reflecting this historical penchant for traditional British aesthetics.

“I am Italian and Peruvian and love those two countries, but when I first set foot into The Baker House, I truly fell in love with the property and my Italian side kicked in. I immediately saw an iconic purple wisteria over an arbor that I was told was about 200 years old, a sunken garden that gave the property a very appealing flow, and gorgeous mature trees surrounded by ivy,” Bertello says.

The estate is graced with the oldest ginkgo trees in the region, a majestic beech tree at the heart of the Baker Carriage House, and some spectacular rhododendrons that create a fuchsia spectacle each May.

The house is filled with extraordinary details, with some features dating back to 1648, and others to the late 1800s and early 1900s. “I was determined to preserve as many original details as possible while updating the residence. It just needed a good facelift,” Bertello continues.

Her journey to becoming the steward of The Baker House is as colorful as her background. Growing up in Peru, where her father was a pioneering entrepreneur and banker, she developed a keen business acumen from a young age. “I was literally his tail. Whatever he was doing, I was right there with him,” she shares. This early exposure to the world of business inspired her move to New York City, where she engaged in real estate, eventually drawn to the investment potential of the Hamptons. “I’ve always loved real estate, in all its forms — commercial, retail, residential. We even have a couple of industrial sites,” she says.

The transition from a weekender to a full-time resident and business owner in the Hamptons deepened her connection to the community. “Once I owned The Baker House, my relationship with the area changed completely. I started

working with local farms for farm-to-table meals and local businesses for our printing needs,” she elaborates. Her role expanded beyond hospitality as she became a pivotal community member, contributing to local charities and fostering a vibrant local network.

Under Bertello’s guidance, The Baker House has become a sanctuary for Hollywood royalty, dignitaries, and artists, who are all drawn by the privacy of the place and the discreet charm of its host. “We’ve hosted many celebrities, from presidents to rock stars. They keep coming back because we respect their privacy,” she says. “We had one big actor who kept coming back to The Baker House weekend after weekend. I’d see him in the pool with his script and walking back and forth in the garden practicing his lines.”

A particularly memorable guest was President Biden, who visited when he was a senator. “He was incredibly charming, down to earth, and even helped clean the leaves from our infinity pool,” she recalls with a smile.

She also remembers welcoming the Knicks on several occasions to play at a charity golf tournament at the Maidstone Club, organized by the Ross School. “We were all on edge because the ceilings in the center of the main house date to 1648 and have hand sewn wooden beams that are a bit low.”

Bertello also spearheads philanthropic efforts, such as supporting the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation and allowing her space to be used for fundraisers. Her passion extends beyond hospitality: for instance, she’s taking part into the Marina Coast Peru project, a massive development that includes a yacht club and condos that all reflect her visionary outlook.

Each season, The Baker House 1650 is marked by the unveiling of exceptional experiences. This summer, the estate will introduce the “Sunset Aperitivo,” hosted from five to eight p.m. in the private courtyard and sunken gardens, featuring five signature cocktails. In addition, their “Sip & Shop” events promise a curated selection of fashion, art, wellness, and home décor brands, each proposing different wines to taste. This

season will see the return of the property’s much-anticipated signature car events and the introduction of the Baker House-branded Moke, available for rent to explore the region’s scenic beauty.

Drawing on the diverse tea cultures encountered during her international travels, Bertello is eagerly anticipating the return of the “Afternoon Tea at Baker” this summer. This cherished tradition is inspired by some of the world’s most prestigious tea rooms — The Plaza in New York, The Biltmore in Los Angeles, The Claridge’s in London, The Plaza Athénée in Paris, and L’Orangerie at the Alvear Palace Hotel in Buenos Aires. “Our Afternoon Tea, which began last summer, has been a remarkable success, embodying the English architectural and garden heritage of our estate,” she explains.

For Bertello, The Baker House is more than just a business — it’s a continuation of her life’s adventure that deeply intertwines her passions and family legacy. “My father was the greatest influence in my life. He was an amazing human being and businessman, charming, kind, and generous, and incredibly intelligent with a unique creative vision.”

“I’ve always followed my father’s advice: worry only to the point of action, then let go. This philosophy has guided me in preserving this historical gem while infusing it with modern luxury and my own love for casual elegance,” she reflects. “Since I was a little girl, I would tag along with him for whatever he was doing, which meant riding motorcycles and fast cars, playing tennis and polo, competing in Hobie Cat regattas, sailing, and spending a lot of time in and on the ocean. He would also take me to his office, where I had a small desk next to his — he would give me a notepad so that I would write any questions I had. He would then take the time to answer them all for me later.”

As a true guardian of history and the creator of memorable experiences, Bertello ensures that The Baker House remains a beloved landmark in the Hamptons. “It's very clear to me that I am merely one of the property’s ‘gatekeepers’ for future generations,” she says. “I’m fortunate to be supported by an outstanding team, which I affectionately call The Baker House Family. Initially, I hadn’t planned on becoming an innkeeper — a role that requires around-the-clock attention —but here I am, fully embracing it with joy.”

SANTA MONICA HIDEAWAY: DISCOVER

THE FAIRMONT MIRAMAR’S STARFILLED PAST AND LUXURIOUS PRESENT

Perched on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica is more than just a hotel — it is a palimpsest of the golden age of Hollywood glamour and a modern sanctuary for those looking to escape the relentless pace of modern life. This ten-storied hotel, with its sprawling bungalows and majestic Ocean Tower, has played host to some of the most illustrious names in entertainment, from Marilyn Monroe to Greta Garbo, offering a discrete retreat where the glitterati could unwind.

Originally the private estate of Santa Monica founder John P. Jones, the property was transformed into a hotel in the late 1920s, just as the American film industry was finding its footing. It quickly became a haven for stars seeking solitude and a touch of seaside luxury. Monroe found solace here during her meteoric rise, often sequestering herself in a bungalow surrounded by lush gardens, away from the prying eyes of paparazzi. Greta Garbo, the Swedish Sphinx herself, was also a frequent visitor, drawn by the Miramar’s promise of peace and anonymity.

Today, the hotel retains that old-world charm infused with contemporary luxury. In the Ocean Tower, the rooms and suites offer breathtaking views of the Pacific and are elegantly designed to complement the natural beauty that frames them. The bungalows, hidden among tropical flora, remain a draw for those in search of privacy and a taste of the past. Guests are treated to an elevated in-room experience with the inclusion of Le Labo’s Rose 31 toiletries that add a touch of elegance and sophistication to the en-suite bathroom.

Dining at the Fairmont Miramar is a one-of-a-kind experience. FIG Restaurant, a gem led by chef Jason Prendergast, is inspired by the locavore movement, with ingredients sourced from the nearby Santa Monica farmers markets. The menu reflects California’s abundant produce and the chef’s innovative spirit,

ensuring each dish is a celebration yet reinvention of traditional American cuisine. The Lobby Lounge, with its understated yet sophisticated décor, offers a quieter kind of indulgence — a perfect spot for afternoon tea or a latenight cocktail.

At the front of the hotel, the Bungalow Santa Monica is a celebrated bar and social hotspot known for its laid-back, beach house vibe. Featuring rustic décor and comfortable indoor and outdoor lounge spaces, it offers the perfect setting for both casual gatherings and lively nights out.

The hotel’s commitment to service and excellence is evident in its amenities. The Exhale Spa offers a range of treatments designed to rejuvenate and relax, from traditional massages to cutting-edge wellness therapies. The fitness center caters to health-conscious guests while the outdoor pool remains a tried-and-true serene oasis.

The Fairmont Miramar is not just a hotel, but a landmark that embodies the history and heart of Santa Monica. It stands as a monument to the past and a beacon of current luxury, continually proving that some places, much like the legends who graced their rooms, only get better with age.

SINGER-SONGWRITER TOM WARDLE ON HIS DEBUT ALBUM AND PERFORMING IN THE HAMPTONS

BCan you tell us about the album you’re working on?

I’ve released EPs and singles in the past, but I’m now ready to make my mark with a full-length album. It’s time to compile the songs I’ve written over the past five years into a cohesive work that narrates my journey from my hometown of Nottingham, England, to Los Angeles, to New York City, and now to the Hamptons. The album is full of moods — upbeat pop rock, romantic country, heartbreak blue-eyed soul.

What are some of your favorite songs on it?

There’s a song called “Crystal Mystic” (available to download now) about a tarot reader I met in Montauk. There’s also an epic rock ballad titled “Who Turned Out The Lights In Hollywood,” which I co-wrote with one of my favorite lyricists, Van Dyke Parks, who worked on The Beach Boys’ Smile album. I’m proud of that one because it is stacked with harmonies, an orchestra, and it features the Brian Wilson band.

Where do you find your inspiration for writing music?

Love, relationships, and the complications that often tie all these together are an endless source of real-life inspiration. I’m always jotting down phrases I’ve read or things I’ve overheard that I think are unintentionally poetic.

What makes the Hamptons such an amazing place to perform?

The people. Everyone here is looking to enjoy themselves among the sunshine and fabulous scenery. Whenever I’m performing at a party on the beach, or at a house overlooking the ocean at sunset, I always take stock of how grateful I am to be doing my job in such a setting.

rooklyn-based British singer, songwriter, and guitarist Tom Wardle has become synonymous with the acoustic charm that defines summer in the Hamptons. Known for his gritty vocals that Rolling Stone has likened to Rod Stewart, Wardle brings a unique blend of pop, rock, and soul to some of the most exclusive venues and luxury events in the area. His recent performances for high-profile clients such as Dior, Louis Vuitton, Manolo Blahnik, and fashion icon Donna Karan, have cemented his status as a favored local live music act.

What have been some of the highlights of bringing Tequila Enemigo to so many international destinations?

Traveling the globe and introducing Tequila Enemigo to the world’s best hospitality destinations has been an incredible journey. Our top locations include Mexico City, New York, and London. Each city is engrained in our brand’s identity, making us the ultimate brand for travelers.

What do you love most about sharing Tequila Enemigo with so many different international cities?

Tequila is the fastest-growing category across major cities worldwide. Potential customers are eager to discover what makes Enemigo special, different, and unique. One of our favorite experiences is witnessing customers’ reactions after their first sip. Most of the time, it’s a genuine surprise and satisfaction, followed by a smile and the inevitable question, “Where can I buy this?” Nothing beats this moment.

How do you personalize the brand for the different properties?

We believe in the “drink it your way” philosophy, which is why we give bartenders as much autonomy as possible. This approach allows them to showcase their creativity and expertise, tailoring the Enemigo experience for their style and clientele.

Can you share with us the inspiration behind some of your signature cocktails?

The “Morning Sunshine” at The Dorchester was created by bar manager Lucia Montanelli and was inspired by a stained-glass window in her hometown. The “Mayfair Sgroppino” at Il Borro London on Berkeley Street, was crafted from the brief: “Not Margarita, not Paloma, but very summery and colorful.” These collaborations blend personal stories with the Enemigo brand, creating unique and memorable drinks.

We’ve partnered with several high-end restaurants, focusing on creating unique and memorable experiences. Historic buildings have been updated with modern interiors and there’s a newly renovated pool, a tennis court, daily yoga, as well as bikes available for rent. EHP’s impressive marina provides ultimate accessibility: just pull up your yacht. You can also rent a house Moke and drive into town or the beach, but make it back in time for sunset — it’s unbeatable here.

HARBOR CONCIERGE: THE ULTIMATE ONE-STOP CONCIERGE FOR PROPERTY OWNERS AND VACATIONERS IN THE HAMPTONS

Imagine waking up in your Hamptons home or summer rental greeted by perfectly laid out towels by the pool, just waiting for you. Any fallen leaves from the previous night have been cleared, leaving your grounds pristine. Your evening beach clam bake is flawlessly orchestrated, and your afternoon sailboat excursion with a top-recommended captain from Sag Harbor is all set. These are just a few of the exclusive services Harbor Concierge provides to their esteemed clientele in the Hamptons. Hamptons Social spoke with visionary founder Nick Zappola about his company’s bespoke service and how it uniquely redefines the Hamptons experience of an elite clientele.

What inspired you to launch Harbor Concierge in the Hamptons this summer?

It was born out of the understanding that Hamptons residents, whether it’s their primary property or a second home, can benefit from a trusted service that can help with certain aspects of maintaining their property. We want to be their trusted eyes and ears and anticipate their needs based on the relationships we have with them and in the community.

How would you describe your core philosophy?

Our philosophy is to celebrate the joy of living. But we know the devil is in the details. So, we work tirelessly to make sure every vacation arrival, party or experience is effortless and memorable for our clients and their guests. We want our clients to enjoy the harmony and energy of the Hamptons, and we do that by eliminating stress and worry.

What do you believe is the ultimate luxury?

Time, in our view, is the ultimate luxury. People are so overburdened with commitments these days, that it is difficult to find time to unwind and relax. Harbor Concierge can prepare your property in advance or on your arrival, for guests or renters, so that time spent in the Hamptons is enjoyed and not filled with a to-do list of details that need attention. As I like to say, ‘Relax, we’ve got this.’

What type of clients benefits most from your services?

Our services are most beneficial to full-time homeowners and owners who rent their properties as vacation destinations. In both cases, we can make their time in the Hamptons the best it can be. Harbor Concierge brings expertise in property maintenance, planning, and preparation.

Tell us about your relationship to the Hamptons and how you select the best vendors to partner with.

As lifelong residents of the Hamptons, we know all the ins and outs of how to get things done. We also have an unmatched standard of excellence and execution because we work with the best people in their fields. Over the years, we have

forged relationships with the most reliable, professional, and discreet vendors in the Hamptons. We have a curated roster of businesses we work with that represent the best that the Hamptons have to offer.

What services do you offer for maintenance and outdoor setup?

We do it all: maintaining the landscape, as well as ensuring all the services and amenities are up to par. We make sure the flowers are beautiful, the grounds are inviting, the pool is sparkling, and the grill is ready to go. And almost everything else you could imagine or need. We can accommodate almost any request.

Can you help with seasonal transition service?

Absolutely. We can take care of the set up for arrival, the packing, and the storage at departure. We photograph every important detail so that life in your home, full-time or part-time, is seamless and inclusive of all the things you value and love.

What are some of the popular activities you coordinate for your clients in the Hamptons?

We have deep ties to the community, which means we can effortlessly set up the most exquisite sunset sails, secure yacht charters, plan a fishing trip for the record books, orchestrate horseback rides along the shore, and arrange memorable lobster bakes on the beach. Everyone loves the concept of hosting parties, inviting friends and family to their homes. Yet, too often, hosts miss out on the joy themselves. We’re here to manage every meticulous detail. Whether you wish to embody the role of a gracious host or simply unwind and soak in the pleasures of your gathering worry-free, we ensure that you experience the full delight of your event.

You’ve seen the Hamptons change over the years. Do you think people place a greater value on their peace and quiet time today?

We are in an overstressed world, and the Hamptons are the place to rest and recharge. If we can cover the details that make that precious deep breath time the best it can be, then we’ve done our job. harbor-concierge.com; (631) 268-6120

THE INSIDER’S GUIDE TO COLLEGE ADMISSIONS WITH DR. KAT COHEN

With IvyWise, Dr. Kat Cohen and her team of experts help students reach their full potential ahead of college admissions — the education consulting firm provides college admissions counseling in the New York area and around the world. From what you need to know about building your college list to selecting the right high school courses to submitting the most compelling college applications, Dr. Cohen reveals what to keep in mind for a successful admission at the college of your choice.

What is your connection to the Hamptons? Could you tell us how you love to spend your time here?

My family and I love to spend time in Southampton. It feels like a true vacation from the city — it’s our secluded, serene getaway. I sleep in, unwind, practice hot yoga, read, catch up with friends, listen to podcasts, and watch drama series. I love spending quality time with my two daughters, blasting music, and dancing in the kitchen. Plus, I love to cook in my Hamptons kitchen — my specialties range from mushroom dumplings to Spanish tortilla. I also have an ice bath just like I have in the city, so I can keep up with my cold-water therapy. I keep it at 36 degrees, and stay in for eight minutes, right next to the pool.

What inspired you to first launch IvyWise?

While studying as a PhD student at Yale, I worked as a reader in the admissions office evaluating undergraduate applications. As a reader, I noticed a lot of mistakes that students made that could have been avoided if they had more guidance. This inspired me to help students as a college admissions counselor so they could reach their full potential. I started IvyWise and have since built a team of counselors who have worked in the admissions offices of some of the most selective colleges in the world.

In your work, what brings you the most fulfillment?

Working with students. It’s exciting to watch them discover who they are and who they want to become during their high school and college preparation journeys. It’s also gratifying to help them explore their interests and uncover their stories.

Which classes prepare you most for college?

Always the most rigorous ones offered at your high school, especially in the subjects that you are the most interested in and plan to pursue. Colleges are looking at grades in the context of the students’ course rigor — and what is available to them at their high school. Are they taking the most challenging courses available to them? Schools want to ensure that students are prepared to handle a challenging college course load.

What are three qualities of a great college list?

Fit: Prioritizing schools that match your goal, as well as specific academic and social needs, is crucial.

Balance and length: I recommend students applying to a balanced list of 1315 best-fit schools. The goal is to have a range of colleges to choose from — some that might be easier to get into, some that might be harder, and some that are right on target.

An understanding of admissions policies and requirements: It is crucial to research and stay informed of each institution’s admissions policies and requirements, including standardized testing requirements.

What are a few important things to do before submitting your college applications?

Follow directions: make sure to carefully read every instruction given on the application and that you’re providing the correct information. Avoid redundancy: every component of your application should add new information to the picture.

IDRISS B.’S GEOMETRIC MENAGERIE HITS THE HAMPTONS

The Windmill Art Gallery Southampton (WAGS), a recent yet already integral part of the Hamptons’ art scene, incorporates both the natural beauty of the East End and a passion for human creativity. Firmin, an inspired advocate for art’s omnipresence in everyday life, speaks with Hamptons Social about his journey from a stunning public exhibition of French artist Idriss B.’s works on Park Avenue to founding a gallery in the Hamptons that embodies his belief that “art is the birth of life.” This summer, Firmin’s curatorial eye and Idriss B.’s geometric animal sculptures are set to captivate audiences in the Hamptons.

Could you tell me about what inspired you to open a gallery in the Hamptons?

After the successful public exhibition of Idriss B., it only made sense to continue the journey, which was to open an actual art gallery in a nature dominant environment, where Idriss B. art pieces would fit in with the surroundings. So, the Hamptons was the ultimate choice close to New York City — and Watermill was the perfect location, with the gallery located just two miles from Southampton Village. Commuters used to only drive by but now, they slow down, stop, and come look at Idriss B. art pieces at the Mill Center Plaza. I believe that art belongs where life happens. Art is the birth of life.

How did you first cross paths with Idriss B.?

Being part of the Murray Hill community in New York, I was introduced to Idriss B. when the Murray Hill Neighborhood Association — through the Patrons of Park Avenue organization — arranged their fabulous pieces to be exhibited on Park Avenue. We connected, and he immediately asked me to represent him here in the US. We clicked, and I understood his vision.

What do you love most about his work? Do you have a favorite piece?

I love them all. They definitely speak to me. That’s how I believe art should be chosen when it speaks to your inner self or your soul. Polygonal art forms could be edgy. But his artworks have a lot of depth. Plus, I love animals even though I haven’t been in a zoo for ages. But the Discovery Channel or the National Geography have always been my favorite channels. Observing animals has always helped humans go through life, and understanding them still helps navigate life despite the hyperconnected world we are all bound to live in.

What are some other artists’ work that will be on display at your gallery this summer?

When I opened the gallery, the driving force was the polygonal sculptures of Idriss B. It only was right to bring in more artists with the same pop tendencies to fill all the walls. I curated the gallery with a mixture of NYC-based talented and very driven young artists such as Eric Klein “Enhance,” J.O. Jerusalem, LV<^ (Goli), Renelio Marin, Alyssa Grace, Gabriela Gil, Hypnotic, Zhanna Mezhenskay, Josip Kostovic, Gabe Aiello, Sandy Cohen, and Leidy Mazo from Miami. To maintain the balance, a few more established and mature artists were chosen such as shoe designer Jennifer Plutzer, photographer Roger Sichel, award-winning photographer Luciana Pampalone and Ron Burkhardt.

Is there a theme to your summer exhibitions?

This summer’s shows are geared toward a more educational and cultural experience of art across continents with artworks that transcend photography, fashion, and sculptures through amazing Japanese kimonos and, later in the season, WAGS is debuting a series of tribal masks from different nations. The goal is to narrate cultural stories through art.

How important is it for you to show other cultures in the gallery?

Being part of an international community, I find myself constantly embracing people from different parts of the world, and I believe that art expands more beyond the traditional artist’s self-expression of energy and colors. There are intercontinental cultural experiences that can be translated through art.

FROM THE DIARIES OF A HAMPTONS PARTY PLANNER

Forbes Shares Her Insider Guide to Event Planning.

Afairy-godmother of parties, Cameron Forbes has carved a niche that’s distinctly her own. With Forbes Functions, she imagines celebrations that are both grand and personalized.

“We are known for going all out for our clients,” she says. “Personalization and customization are my two key considerations. Seeing an event go from ideation to execution is so fulfilling.”

Whether it’s an 80s-themed birthday bash or a masquerade dinner, the culmination of months of planning and coordination into a successful celebration is what drives her. As for hosting a party in the Hamptons, Forbes offers insider advice. She recommends beginning with a clear list of priorities and utilizing digital platforms for vendor outreach. She also stresses the importance of a well-planned seating chart, impeccable catering, and a beautifully designed tablescape.

“Theme parties are my favorites to plan, and I have been waiting two summers to plan a Mamma Mia!-inspired event out East. I love the colorful Greek vibes, with lots of white and blue ceramics and bright pink bougainvillea. Other theme party ideas I love for this summer are inspired by the European coastline, the old Hollywood aesthetic, and the very trendy coquette Marie Antoinette look.”

With party planning trends always evolving, Forbes is championing the shift towards more dramatic, bespoke décor and personalized experiences. “Traditional flower arrangements are giving way to dramatic, draping florals,” she says. “The photobooths of the 2010s are being replaced by nostalgic, documentary-style photography: think candid content, and overexposed, retro film.”

Forbes also sees a shift in how invitations are handled, with clients opting for digital solutions that streamline the RSVP process and become part of the guests’ online calendars.

“Platforms like Paperless Post, Partiful, and HiNOTE make it easy for hosts to personalize the look and feel of their invitations.” Yet, Forbes is still fond of the tactile charm of printed invitations for certain milestone events. “For hosts who are printing invitations, I still recommend going paperless on some materials. Digitize some elements: create a wedding website with itinerary, accommodation, and registration information that guests can access via a live link or QR code.”

Music selection is another area where Forbes applies her expertise. “Having a DJ, musician, or band can get pricey, but the impact of live music can’t be understated. Most of my clients opt for live entertainment; however, utilizing a large Bluetooth speaker or the music system in your home can work just as well.”

While hosting in the Hamptons may seem intimidating, Forbes recommends getting creative. “Call around to seafood shops and local restaurants to learn about their catering options, visit roadside farm stands for fresh floral arrangements, and utilize free venues like the beautiful beaches.”

Forbes grew up spending every summer in the Hamptons. “My parents met in a share house in Quogue back in the 90s, and by the time I was born, they had lived in both Southampton and East Hampton. I worked at some of the stores in town on Newtown Lane as a teenager, and taught children how to sail on Gardiners Bay in Amagansett,” she says.

With a deep personal connection to the East End, Forbes believes there is no better place to enjoy a summer soirée. “The Hamptons is the perfect place to throw a party because of its beautiful setting. From the pristine beaches and manicured backyards of Southampton to the raucous bars and hotels of Montauk, no other place has the same ambiance and community.”
