Celebrating

Litha

It is that time of year again when the world goes into a frenzy for the holiday season. For many of us it is a time to catch up with loved ones and celebrate the closing of the calendar year with our families. However, for Wiccans, it is the celebration of the Lesser Sabbat; Litha. By Kristy Chalmer LITHA -

SUMMER SOLSTICE - IS THE SABBAT CELEBRATED TO MARK MID-SUMMER. At Litha the Sun enters Capricorn and is at its highest point in the sky. OR THE

The Litha Sabbat is a time to celebrate both work and leisure, it is a time for children and childlike play. It is a time to celebrate the ending of the waxing year and the beginning of the waning year, in preparation for the harvest to come. Midsummer is a time to absorb the Suns warming rays and it is another fertility Sabbat, not only for humans, but also for crops and animals. Wiccans consider the Goddess to be heavy with pregnancy from the mating at Beltane. The Sun God is celebrated as the Sun is at its peak in the sky and we celebrate His approaching

Colours associated with Litha include white, red, maize yellow, golden yellow, green, blue and tan. Altar candles are usually blue, green, red, yellow or gold. Herbs associated with Midsummer include: Chamomile, Elder, fennel, Lavender, Mugwort

My parents, love them dearly, are not in the slightest spiritual and I think they considered me rather strange. I remember I must have been able to see something like an aura. I am most proud of a pair

of large paintings that I did around 6 years ago. Both paintings were 90 cm by 1.8 meters, I called them ‘Karri Country I and II’ I was trying to capture the mystical nature of the Great Southern forests, and I nailed it. I never know when an artwork is finished, this has been an ongoing issue. I don’t have a choice about making art, art is a part of my being and I just can’t imagine myself without it. It is part of being a solitary Pagan, I need a room to paint, I believe being solitary is sometimes not just a way of being Pagan; it is truly a way of life. I have lived by myself now for over 17 years, and I can’t see that changing. I live in a little house in Albany that boarders the bush and I am very happy like this, but it is not a choice. As I enter my crone years I have finally found how I need to live. I need to be Baba Yaga, if you don’t know who she is, look her up.

EXERCISING THE LAWS OF ATTRACTION By Amanda Greasley | Lick Your Fingers: Join the positive food movement

Have you considered that the food you make and the way you make it can be a powerful tool in exercising the Laws of Attraction? Through food and intent you can improve your health, improve communication in the family, and attract abundance (anything at all really). C OO KING W ITH I NTENT Have you considered that the food you make and the way you make it can be a powerful tool in exercising the Laws of Attraction? Through food and intent you can improve your health, improve communication in the family, and attract abundance (anything at all really). W HAT

IS

M AG ICA L I NTENT ?

We are all Magical and we all have power within us to create the life we want. Magic is not just spells and wands, magic at its core is nothing but intent; the spells and candles are just a way of focussing our energy when weaving our magic. In the kitchen; your ingredients, kitchen equipment and the movements you make (stirring, grating, etc.) are physical ways of focussing your intent

into the food. Every single person is capable creating Magic in their life! There are many ways to exercise this power of Manifestation and I really want to give you an idea of how to use food and cooking to manifest what you want in your life. A RE Y OU

AN I NTU ITIVE

C OO K ?

I am an intuitive cook. That means I rarely follow recipes and tend to make food up as I go along based on what I feel will go well together. Part of cooking with Intent is being able to identify the energy of food. Build your food intuition by tasting things on their own and imagine what they will go with be it sweet, sour, creamy, acidic. And if you think that you are not intuitive when it comes to food, tell me, would you mix tuna and chocolate? Probably not.

INTENT: IMPROVING HEALTH

“I only consume wholesome, satisfying food”

Bananas, Pistachios (unsa lted), yellow or orange capsicum, celery, lime juice 1. Roughly chop pistachios and finely dice capsicum and celery. 2. When dicing the celery and capsicum, I focus on improvement of health for that day. You may feel comfortable using the mantra “I only consume wholesome satisfying food”. 3. Stir together in an anticlockwise direction with the intent of welcoming in health. 4. Stir through the lime juice to taste (you can add coconut oil if you wish). 5. Add the banana rings just as you are about to eat it. PAGAN PENS | PAGE 11

Just say your mantra out loud or in your head repeatedly as you prepare your food; food cooked with love and intent always tastes better!

This is where you can use Mantras to push that final bit of energy into your dish. It is your intent that determines which purpose they will fulfil. “I desire only healthy, whole food” “I invoke positive family communication” “I will achieve [insert goal here] by the end of the month”

A CT IV IT Y N O . 1 Take 5 minutes to brainstorm what you would like to manifest with your next meal. Do you want to manifest better family communication? How about some grounding energy for the kids who are running wild? Think about what kind of foods you could use to achieve this. What do you want to manifest? What ingredients will you use? What preparation method will you use? Will you use a mantra? What will it be?

Frankincense The Oil of Truth

Frankincense essential oil is so universal in all aspects that you can’t go wrong when using it. Discover the countless ways it can improve your health and wellbeing. By Katarzyna Sakowska

FRANKINCENSE ESSENTIAL OIL IS POWERFUL. I refer to it as one of the Master oils (or the Father oil). It's so universal in all aspects that you can't go wrong when using it and is a great “all rounder”; the perfect place to start on your essential oil journey.

M oon p ha se - Waning

It is a Father oil; strong and protecting, yet will guide you in a caring and gentle way. It can show you the unpleasant, false and scary sides of our lives. Fake people or situations cannot hide when you have Frankincense on your side. It will show you all your lower vibrations and invite you to work on them and aid you to overcome them. It will help you to cleanse yourself spiritually as well as your environment; great for use both in the home and the work place! Just put a few drops into a spray bottle and spray into each corner of a room. This remedy is perfect for doorways to stop unwanted energies from entering.

Pa rt of the “ plant” - Tree Resin, the tree is “bled” for the resin which is then turned into the oil, it's in the trees “veins”, thus it carries a lot of energy with it.

It also has the ability to increase the potency of the other oils when combined with them, without overtaking them or hindering their purpose. It works harmoniously with all it comes into contact with. FRANKINCENSE WONDERFULLY

from taking hold. There are even whispers in the science community (links and studies completed yet still to be published) to show it can help prevent the C word! Personally, I take this oil by placing it under my tongue every day in order to help my body cope with any toxins or free radicals although I feel obliged to quickly advise that you do not ingest any Frankincense, unless its labeled as safe to ingest! Please check the bottle carefully as EO’s are very potent and can cause harm if used incorrectly.

ANOTHER ASPECT TO CONSIDER WITH FRANKINCENSE IS THE EMOTIONAL ASPECT. He can bring forth so many possibilities and “issues”, yet he does this with a loving, guiding hand. He never forces you to face what you are not ready for, and is there to help you when you are, just like a loving father, or the guiding master, whichever term you prefer. ALONG

SIDE

BOTH

BODILY

AND

EMOTIONAL ASPECTS TO CONSIDER, WE SHOULD ALSO EXAMINE SPIRITUAL ASPECTS.

I tend to differentiate between spiritual workings and magical workings, however they can be intertwined. I find that spiritual workings are more about very personal dealings, thus are very individual. However, magical workings are more about performing a ritual for a purpose, which utilises the spiritual aspect to give the extra oomph to magic. Frankincense is awesome to mediate with to bring forth both

spiritual and magical potency. I’ve included a list of uses of Frankincense in magical workings. MIND, BODY AND SPIRIT ARE ALL TAKEN CARE OF BY FRANKINCENSE.

So do you think perhaps that we have covered all bases with that extremely generous list of uses? Think again! FRANKINCENSE CAN ALSO HELP OUR AURAS AND CHAKRAS! Now can you see why it's such a MASTER!? It is closely associated with 3 different Chakras, however it will ground and align ALL Chakras! It will ground the spiritual self to the physical self and clear any negativity. It’s fantastic to use before, during or after mediation. Placing a drop of oil on each Chakra can awaken them and get them flowing (although, it may not completely unblock them but it can certainly start the process). Wearing Frankincense every day

PAGAN PENS | PAGE 18

can help block unwanted energies and clear your own aura of any black spots. This process ensures that you’re less likely to be weighed down by another’s energies. It is for this reason that Frankincense is known to be a great oil for empaths! When using it, I don't burn Frankincense resin (odd, I know) and personally prefer it in its essential oil form. So instead of cleansing myself with incense smoke I will mix Frankincense essential oil with fractionated coconut oil and use it as an overall body moisturiser within my preritual / mediation preparations, ensuring that each Chakra point gets a physical connection to help them wake up energetically. - Connect with Kat on Facebook at www.facebook.com/pagans.westernaustralia E: kat82.doterra@gmail.com W: www.doterra.com/kat82

My Heart My heart grieves, not for the people I didn’t know who died that day. Not for their families, or the people far from home, waiting for news that their loved ones were gone. My heart grieves, not for the many other tragedies that happened that day. So many lives lost, families shattered, hearts broken, cities in tatters. My heart grieves, not for all this but… My heart grieves for the lessons not learnt For the wars that were fought in years gone by and yet history repeats, over and over and over again. My heart grieves for the hate that we have for our brothers and sisters For the differences that divide us but which should be the very thing that makes this world a better place. So many differences that aren’t embraced but derided and feared. My heart grieves for the “Us” and the “Them”, when we all need to start thinking as one… One voice, one world, one people. My heart grieves for the prophets of peace whose words were taken and twisted and changed into something that destroys the very soul of those prophets Kindness is a mark of faith, I have a dream, Imagine, Compassion, Turn the other cheek

PAGAN PENS | PAGE 20

Â

Grieves My heart grieves for the hundreds of millions who have died in the name of religion. Died because they believed in a God who was not your God. Died because they worshipped that God differently from you. My heart grieves for the faith we have in a God who would create a world where there is so much destruction and misery and HATE. My heart grieves for the lies and the greed that rule the world. A world run by media and politicians hungry for power. My heart grieves for the loss of a world where we can feel safe and sheltered and LOVED. My heart grieves for the world where material things matter more than kindness and compassion. More than love, more than friendship, more than honesty. My heart grieves for our children, who will grow into a world not knowing that what they were taught were lies and greed and unhappiness. My heart grieves for our children, who will grow up believing that it is wrong to be different. Who will grow up thinking someone is not worth loving because they look different, dress differently, act differently, have faith in Gods that are different or have no faith at all. My heart grieves for the pain and the suffering of millions My heart grieves for all this and more My heart grieves for you. By Amelia Slack Â

I breathe in deep as you surround me, I test the air for dangers and debris, I reach out slowly to seek your touch, I long to feel your presence so much. As you enter my fragile mind, You show things, you show me signs, Slowly first but then much faster, Easing me in, in case of disaster. Some can see and some can hear, Some can read and some can share. Those with all are blessed and cursed, But those with more will always thirst. To learn their Craft and know their Gift, And show the world how The Veil they lift. If words are spoken that show the path, One can change where it ends at last. So open your mind and let me in, Open your heart and show within. The truth is harsh but can also be kind, If you approach it with an open mind. No way is set, no path is solid. The strands of time are far from stolid. Seek out knowledge and learn and grow, And one day this you too shall know.
