ALUMNI EXPERIENCES ”I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Hanken. It is a very research-intensive business school. Already in their first year of PhD studies students are encouraged to attend international conferences and present their work to the international scientific community. Hanken also offers high-quality doctoral courses in major subjects and in methodology. Many doctoral students are involved in teaching, simultaneously developing their pedagogical skills. Hanken encourages international mobility of its PhD students and offers them financial support for that. I got financial support for several conferences abroad and a six-month research visit to New Zealand, where I worked with my second supervisor. It was the most work-intensive period of my doctoral studies and also great life experience.” Tamara Galkina PhD, Hanken Alumna

”What I appreciated the most was the flexibility. In order to be successful as a doctoral student you have to be entrepreneurial and take initiatives, so it is essential that the school is flexible and supports you in your goals. Hanken provided me with that support. In addition to this, there were relatively few doctoral students per supervisor which meant that you could get a lot of feedback on your research. The academic job market is highly global; during your studies it’s essential to gain experience from the academic work environment in different countries. During my studies I visited New York University for a year, and after that I spent almost a year at the Research Institute of Industrial Economics in Stockholm. In addition to this I took courses at universities across Europe. It is important for your creativity to change environment every now and then - I got some of my best research ideas while being abroad.” Joakim Tåg PhD, Hanken Alumnus
