She found Enjoyment out of creating aesthetics pieces around her that created a mood and showed her Culture, and taste. Her mother was an artist also except instead of a brush and a canvas she had her silk flowers and wreaths. Growing up in this inviroment these decorations really became a crucial element and design in the room. Hannah will take you back to her home and tell you all about how these christmas decorations are not just thrown out of the atttic during the holiday season but they are a major desigin element in a room.

Design Thesis Design is a word that describes every detail of ones surroundings. Our Goal is to make you look a little closer at the details so that you can also use these Elements and principles In your own Home. Use our Tips to wow your company this season. The details are what will make your home feel special this Holiday. From our home to yours heres what we have to say about Design in Christmas Decorating.
Elements of Design
Line Curved Flowing
The First Place we are going to see these elements and principles is on this Stair case garland. When you look at Garland what do you see?... Lines. Garland Is a long line drawing your eyes up the stair case. Its Up to you how you choose to do this. You can drape it and get curved flowing lines‌
Line straight Vertical
Or You can attach the greenery to the vertical poles and you will have bunch of vertical lines.
Line straight horizontal
Or you can attach the garland to the railing and get a straight vertical line
Texture Tactile Textured The Next Element of Design is Texture. We wanted to show how using a variety of textures in your ornaments can make for a more interesting Christmas tree. This ornament has a tactile texture. Its very bumpy which is nice because it will give of different reflections.
Texture Implied
This Ornament has a film of glitter on it which makes it rough and sparkle instead of shine.
Texture Reflective
This Ornament is smooth and shiny. This makes the ornament very reflective which almost makes it seem like there is more lights in the tree than there are
Light Natural
The Next element of design is Light. Light is so important and really sets the mood in a room. During the afternoon open the curtains up and let the decorations Shine.
Light Soffit lighting
The Next lighting I think is crucial for your holiday decorating is a spotlight on your mantle to show off your masterpieces.
Light LED Lighting The Next important lighting for your decoratin g is your typical Christmas tree lighting. The tree is always a focal point. And once it lights up it sets the mood in a room.
Color Analogous The next Design Element is color. Picking the color scheme for your tree is always a struggle. This color scheme is analogous because it is all the colors from a section of the color wheel.
Color Monochromatic
The next color scheme is monochromatic. Monochromatic means that is several different tones and tints of a certain color.
Color Triadic
The Next color scheme is Triadic. This means that it is three color on the color wheel that form a triangle when you connect them through the center. The three colors are Blue. Red, and yellow (also known as the primary colors)
Space Positive
The next element of design is Space. In these next examples I will show you how these merchandised products actually create a feeling of space. The first example of space is “positive space. This shows positive space because these items all layed out are represented as a unit.
Space Negative
This is an example of negative space because it has a whole through the display so that you can see past it and it brings yout eye out away from the tree and then pulls you right back towards it.
Space Crowding This is an example of how space can be crowded when you have several small objects in a cluster.
Shape Abstract The next Element of design is Shape. Shapes are all over the place and you can even get your wreaths in different shapes to change the look of your ordinary wreaths. This is an interesting shape and it is in the form of an abstract shape.
Shape Geometric
The Next Shape is a more Geometric shape and this gives a feel of more straight edge and modern look/
Shape Organic
This wreath is in the shape of a circle but the way it flows around gives it more of an organic freeform look.
Form natural
The last element of design is form. For this section I wanted to show how items can be made into a festive decoration and makes a form when the shapes are combined. These antlers are naturally this shape and when combined together they form into a wreath/
Form geometric The next Form is a Christmas tree out of presents. This Form creates a very geometric look.
Form abstract The next Form is also a Christmas tree but this one is made out of paper. This look creates more of an abstract looking Christmas tree.
Principles of design
Balance Assymetry
The First Principle of design is Balance. I also decided to show example of how wreaths can show balance. The First Wreath displays asymmetry. If the wreath had been centered at the bow it may be symmetrical but because the boy leans toward the left side it is no long symmetrical.
Balance Linear symmetry
This wreath is an example of linear symmetry because if you took a line an cut it in half it would be the same on both sides.
Balance Radial symmetry
This wreath is an example of radial symmetry because it is symmetrical no matter which way you fold it.
Harmony Materials
The next principle of design is Harmony. For this Principle I choose to show you how front porches display harmony. For this porch I believe that the materials are what harmonizes this porch.
Harmony Color
For this front porch they show harmony with the colors that they used. They are all different kinds of greenery but they harmonize well together.
I believe that this porch shows harmony through line. The garland that borders the door brings it all together like a picture.
Harmony Line
Emphasis
The next principle of design is Emphasis. I belive that mantles and fire places are always big focal points and we love to emphasis them. The Mantle is emphasized by its large dark mirror. Its also loaded with greenery and it catches your eye.
Emphasis This mantle also puts a big emphasis on the mirror but unlike the last picture this mantle uses curved lines to make the mirror seem even bigger than it is.
Emphasis
This Mantle puts emphasis on the fire place by putting the large dark shape on the light brick.
Mass For the design principle Mass I wanted to show hoe chandelier decorations can give your light fixture a sense on mass in the room. For this chandelier the antlers that curve up give the chandelier a sense on dimension but they also lift it up an little and make it look lighter.
mass For this Chandelier hanging ornaments from the greenery give the fixture a lot more mass and make it look like the ornaments are pulling the fixture down.
mass
In this display the size of ther fixture give it a lot of mass and balances out with the tree even though it’s a big empty space.
Rhythm Transitional
For the Design principle Rhythem I wanted to show how center pieces can display this. For this display. The variety of shapes and sizes of the candles can show a transitional movement through out the display.
Rhythm Climatic
For this display the rhythm is shown in a climatic way. They just flow together which gives them rhythm
Rhythm Repetitive
This displays rhythm shows repetition all the way across.
Proportion For the Principal of design Proportion I wanted to show and example of a well proportioned tree and then some examples of bad proportion. This Tree is well proportioned to fit the room because it neatly touches the cealing but it doesn’t.
Proportion
This is an example of bad or awkward proportions. Usually In a rron the stand or urn for the tree is not the same height as the tree.
Proportion This is also an example of bad proporti ons. As beautifu l as they look togethe r the scale of those chairs ar way too big for the table.
Scale The last Principle of design is Scale. When decoration a tree it is good to incorporate this Principle. When putting in some large scaled ornaments it captures the size of the over all tree.
Scale Because of the size of the tree, its good to use larger scale objects in the tree.
Scale This tree is different because it is a smaller scale tree with large ornaments
