Beautiful wines from a beautiful place
– THE STORY –
MAUDE is a family-owned wine company, created by experienced winemaking couple Sarah-Kate and Dan Dineen. Producing hand crafted wines from their custom built winery amidst the stunning back drop of Lake Wanaka in Central Otago, New Zealand. Maude is a contemporary wine statement with traditional winemaking roots. The family estate vineyard, Mt Maude, was planted in 1994 on the steep north facing slopes of the sheltered Maungawera Valley just outside of Wanaka.
– THE MAUDE RANGE –
Maude wines are made from carefully selected parcels of fruit from vineyards that Sarah-Kate and Dan know and love.
CENTRAL OTAGO pinot gris
MARLBOROUGH sauvignon blanc
CENTRAL OTAGO pinot noir
Full, rich and viscous with powerful stone fruit aromas and flavours
Although a Central Otago entity, Maude wanted to be able to offer a typically bright and opulent Sauvignon Blanc from the region that is internationally renown for this variety
A complex, dark and brooding wine with typical Central Otago aroma’s and flavours of black fruits, violets and wild thyme
Combining fruit from two Central Otago vineyards, one being the mature Mt Maude family vineyard. Whole bunch pressing and partial barrel fermentation aid longevity and complexity
Quintessential Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with passionfruit, lime peel and gooseberry aromas and flavours
Fermented very traditionally in open topped tanks, hand plunged, basket pressed and matured in French oak barriques
Lake Hawea
An important key to our Maude Pinot Noir is the composition of Central Otago’s different appellations. Our Bannockburn vineyard provides a good foundation, the Queensbury and Wanaka vineyards to the north add a suppleness, complexity and perfume whilst the tannin structure and length of palate we attribute to our Gibbston Vineyard.

The family estate vineyard, Mt Maude, lies on the steep north-facing slopes of the Maungawera Valley, which leads down to Lake Wanaka. This vineyard was planted in 1994 by Sarah-Kate’s parents, Dawn and Terry Wilson and it is protected from the prevalent northwesterly wines by the mountain that is also its namesake.
The four hectare vineyard is predominantly Pinot Noir, with Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris also grown. The northerly aspect of the Mt Maude vineyard and it’s elevation, combined with Wanaka’s extended late summer to autumn season, allows the fruit to ripen slowly, flavours concentrate whilst acid levels remain intact.
MAKING THE RESERVE
The Mt Maude vineyard terrior combined with additional time on the vine “hang time” allows the grapes to ripen fully, where seeds brown, skins toughen, flavours develop and most importantly, stalks fully lignify. Sarah-Kate and Dan take advantage of this for the Mt Maude Reserve Pinot Noir by including all stalks in the fermentation - 100% whole bunch ferment. Creating a wine with sinewy structure from stalk tannin and the “crushed herb and spice” aromas which are the precursor to the ethereal forest floor, violet or alluring perfume great Pinots have.
– MT MAUDE VINEYARD RANGE –
Wines from the Mt Maude Vineyard reign supreme in the Maude range as the individual vineyard reserve wines.
The glacial moraine on which Mt Maude is planted has enough underlying clay seams that these mature vines no longer need irrigation. This poise and elegance, this coming of age is now reflected in the wines that this 17 year old vineyard produces.
MT MAUDE east block riesling
MT MAUDE dry riesling
MT MAUDE chardonnay
Low alcohol and off dry in style, this lush lively wine has beautiful purity
Restrained aromatics, a hint of blossom with lemon zest and slatey aromas. Pristine lemon lime flavours, natural fruit weight and texture with racey acidity
Ripe stone fruits and poached pears combined with hints of biscuit and toasted almonds from barrel maturation, a well balanced and textural wine
Green apple aromas and flavours dominate with hints of marmalade and apple pie. Although high in sugar, the bright acidity leaves the wine crisp and clean with a long persistent finish
A Riesling illustrating the purity and depth of fruit achievable from these mature vines
Small parcels of pristine fruit, foot stomped, basket pressed, fermented in old French oak puncheons, indigenous yeasts
MT MAUDE pinot noir Dark fruits, a touch of five spice and dried herb aromas lead onto a sweet, luscious and seamless palate with great depth of flavour 100% stalk inclusion in the fermentation This gives us the rare opportunity to create a wine with longevity from structural tannin and the promise of the beautiful ethereal qualities great Burgundy can deliver
