Fellow Cattlemen —
Welcome!
-We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the Weber Farms Angus 1st Annual Production Sale to be held on February 9th, 2018. The sale will take place in our new, heated sale facility located at the farm near Plainview, NE. Previously we have been marketing our seedstock, (bulls and females) via private treaty. Over the years, we have built a very solid, loyal customer base of neighbors and friends through this process We are now able to offer more bulls of higher quality, thus taking the next step to a Production Sale is the best route to offer our top genetics to you. It gives you, the buyer, an equal opportunity to select the specific bull or female for your needs.
JIM & AMY WEBER Max, Lucas and Samantha 402-640-7031
As a seedstock producer for both commercial and purebred operations, we at Weber Farms are committed to produce Angus seedstock that will provide the genetics for solid economic returns for any operation. The American Angus Association (AAA) provides an outstanding set of tools, such as EPD’s and $Indexes, that we use to help select cattle to accomplish that goal. In addition to those tools, we have added the use of Genomic testing as a standard practice. All of the yearling bulls in the offering have been DNA tested through the AAA’s Angus GS test. This is a high-density test which looks at DNA markers for each trait and greatly improves the accuracies of the EPD’s and $Indexes of these young animals that have not produced any progeny. For example, if you are looking for a bull to use on first calf heifers, you can buy with that much more confidence knowing that you are getting exactly what you are paying for. In addition to testing the yearling bulls, we have also committed to testing every replacement heifer that is entering our herd. All bulls selling on February 9th will be fully guaranteed against any injury or accident during the first breeding season. If an injury should occur, we ask that you notify us as soon as possible after it occurs and no later than September 1st. We understand that everyone’s breeding season is different so if yours will extend beyond September 1st, please discuss this with us BEFORE an injury occurs. Every possible effort will be made to provide a replacement bull during the breeding season if necessary. If no replacement is available or not immediately needed, credit will be given towards the purchase of a bull at our next production sale, less any salvage value that may be recovered. Bulls selling will continue to be developed at Weber Farms until March 15th at which time we will begin delivery. A $100 discount per bull will be applied to the purchase price if you are able to take the bull home with you on sale day. All females will need to be picked up the day of the sale unless prior arrangements have been made. We would also like to take this opportunity to announce a herd expansion that recently took place for us. This past summer, Weber Farms purchased the Krebs Ranch (Gordon, NE) fall calving herd in it’s entirety. This herd has produced many herd sires including KR Quest (AAA# 18192783) which is owned by Alta Genetics, Inc. and partners. Beginning in 2019, in addition to yearling bulls, we will begin offering 18-month old bulls. These cows from this herd are of such outstanding quality that we have already selected five of them as donors to enter our Embryo Transplant program!
KEVIN & JAMIE WEBER Brendan, Tessa and Kendall 402-841-0791
Finally, we would like to thank you for considering Weber Farms Angus for your seedstock needs. We are excited to be entering into a new era with our first Production Sale. More importantly, we look forward to assisting both our new and existing customers in selecting breeding stock that will help you accomplish your beef enterprise goals! Hope
to see you on sale day!

He scanned a 14.4 in. Ribeye. Recommended for cows.

6120 is a very thick, powerful Uproar son that will add a lot of red meat. His dam, 76X, is a very fertile, easy fleshing type cow that has bred AI every year that I’ve owned her. If you’re goal is raising great replacement females, 6120 would be an excellent choice. Recommended for cows.

A Message from our Sale Manager
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the pages of the Weber Farms Angus First Annual Production Sale. It will be the first of many sale catalogs from Jim Weber and his family. They are truly immersed and committed to breeding and offering quality, reliable Angus seedstock for their friends, neighbors and fellow Angus breeders. Throughout most of 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, we have witnessed unprecedented price levels in all segments of the beef complex. Despite a serious downturn in the market last spring, our commercial markets, feeder cattle and fed cattle, have rebounded to profitable levels. With the current strength of the economy comes solid domestic demand for our great tasting US beef, the opening of the Chinese market and strengthening of all beef exports, our future indeed looks bright. With that comes opportunity to broaden one’s margins with superior genetics, technology and management. Now’s the time to invest in superior and proven genetics to ensure optimum production and performance in your breeding operation. It has been a pleasure to work with Jim in developing a sound marketing strategy to offer and successfully market the Weber Farms Angus brand. In this first sale, we are still learning and trust that you can appreciate the true quality of this offering. The pedigrees are solid, built with proven females from reputable programs and mated to many of the breed’s most proven and popular sires. If I can be of any assistance as you study this information packed sale catalog, please feel free to contact me at any time.

AMERICAN ANGUS ASSOCIATION SELECTION TOOLS Expected Progeny Difference (EPD), is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Interim EPDs may appear on young animals when their performance has yet to be incorporated into the American Angus Association National Cattle Evaluation (NCE) procedures. This EPD will be preceded by an “I”, and may or may not include the animal’s own performance record for a particular trait, depending on its availability, appropriate contemporary grouping, or data edits needed for NCE.
GROWTH
Calving Ease Direct (CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers. Birth Weight EPD (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Weaning Weight EPD (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Yearling Weight EPD (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Yearling Height EPD (YH), is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling height, expressed in inches, compared to the that of other sires. Scrotal Circumference EPD (SC), expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size compared to that of other sires.
MATERNAL
Calving Ease Maternal (CEM), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf daughters. It predicts the average ease with which a sire’s daughters will calve as first-calf heifers when compared to daughters of other sires. Maternal Milk EPD (Milk), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters ofother sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability. Mature Weight EPD (MW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of the difference in mature weight of daughters of a sire compared to the daughters of other sires. Mature Height EPD (MH), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the difference in mature height of a sire’s daughters compared to daughters of Mature Height EPD (MH), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the difference in mature height of a sire’s daughters compared to daughters of other sires. Cow Energy Value ($EN), expressed in dollars savings per cow per year, assesses differences in cow energy requirements as an expected dollar savings difference in daughters of sires. A larger value is more favorable when comparing two animals (more dollars saved on feed energy expenses). Components for computing the cow $EN savings difference include lactation energy requirements and energy costs associated with differences in mature cow size.

CARCASS
The genetic evaluation produces a single set of EPDs for carcass weight, marbling score, Ribeye area and fat thickness. The units of measure are in carcass trait format and analyzed on an ageconstant basis. Carcass Weight EPD (CW), expressed in pounds is a predictor of the differences in hot carcass weight of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Marbling EPD (Marb), expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Ribeye Area EPD (RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Fat Thickness EPD (Fat), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the differences in external fat thickness at the 12th rib (as measured between the 12th and 13th ribs) of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
$VALUE INDEXES
$Value indexes, are multi-trait selection indexes to assist beef producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. $Values are reported in dollars per head, where a higher value is more favorable. The $Value is an estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, on average, compared to progeny of other sires in the database if the sires were randomly mated to cows and if calves were exposed to the same environment. Weaned Calf Value ($W), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for preweaning merit. $W includes both revenue and cost adjustments associated with differences in birth weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk, and mature cow size. Feedlot Value ($F), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning merit compared to progeny of other sires. Grid Value ($G), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for carcass grid merit compared to progeny of other sires. Beef Value ($B), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.
