I feel it. The rough of my palm softened by its polished surface. Every detail refined like the last. Fascinated; I gaze like a child playing with an abacus maze at the spirals on the fiddle-back chair. My hand glides in between every last groove, stopping at every corner to rub my thumb over the joins in the wood.
”
The toe of my boot stubs the edge of his fiddle-back chair, and losing my footing I put my hand out to stabilize myself. I’ve reached his desk; piled high with years of clutter; old light bulbs, paper tears and discoloured notebooks - a hoarders paradise.
