Competition Entry: Tiny Kiwi Meditation Cabin

Page 1

TRANSITION Our approach to the site is driven by two ideas. First, we recognize the spot surrounded by native trees as a sacred space and choose not to disturb its special atmosphere. It’s already a beautiful place for meditation and exists as a kind of natural temple. Rather than build a cabin within it, we’ve placed the building away from this sacred spot. Second, our design works with the slope of the topography so that the roof level is usable space. This maximizes the area of the small building footprint. We envision a long entry ramp that intersects the steep, grassy incline and guides your approach to arrive at a flat roof level. The circulation path wraps around the building, descending to the ground floor and leads you to the interior meditation room while also gesturing beyond to the sacred spot.

Connect This design offers multiple spaces for meditation, each with its own atmosphere: in the room, on the roof, or outside in the natural temple. The underlying idea is that meditation can happen anywhere and at any time. Meditation is about connecting to the energies within you, settling into a deep silence, and relaxing into a state of absolute comfort. Our proposal celebrates this transition from movement to stillness.
