ELEV

ELEV’s form was founded through the bending and shaping of wire mesh. The different forms created guided the design process. The stacking seen in the front entrance of the building was inspired by the cloud-like shape of the mesh. This, with a self-dictated program, shaped the building.

I Theorized Architecture 2019

URBN GRDN

Through researching the culture and vibe of Deep Ellum Dallas, TX, these graphics were created to help visitors navigate through the area and experience the site through a different lens. The first graphic is a modern version of a Persian Axonometric and the second graphic is a map of the different areas of Downtown Dallas for visitors to explore.

I Theorized Architecture 2019

URBN GRDN

First and foremost a center to educate the public on growing their own fresh produce from home, URBN GRDN serves also as a cafe, for-profit growing space, and community growing center. The building itself is humble. It lacks a strong vertical height and has a clear and simple datum that allows for easy access in and throughout the building On site, there is no clear boundary of inside and out- a series of ramps allow visitors to slowly take part in entering the project grounds and experiencing urban growing and community engagement at every level of the site. All materials utilized outside are carried in to create a harmony between normally-opposing relationships. In order to maintain a respectful environment with surrounding buildings, URBN GRDN draws from a commonly used structural vocabulary around Deep Ellum, Dallas, TX to create the main framework for the building. Rammed Earth and Heavy Timber were chosen by nature of the program and helps the project

COMPOSITIONAL TRANSITIONS

Through three different compositional rules and three different ending phases, the mask, first found at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, the shape is twisted and morphs slowly into its ending form. Each step in the progression follows its own set of rules that dictate the next step.

First, the insect was studied. Every leg, wing, eye, and bodily feature was accounted for in order to best construct an non-typical habitat for the hoverfly.

HOVERFLY RENDERINGS

In order to construct a home for a human, it’s important to disconnect oneself with the typical nature of a home we all know. By deeply and carefully studying an insect, the understanding of what makes a home a “home” shifts and allows for a different perspective on habitation. The Hoverfly, a measly bug, has been utilized by farmers for centuries for crop pest control and has over 300 different variations of the species.

PROCESS

then taken in abstract terms and researched in great depth to create the finalized project.

PART III

Finally, the unnatural habitat was created for the insect. In order to attract the bug to a habitat that was not it’s own, all aspects of a flower, the usual home, were abstracted to create this.

III Model Projects 2018

HOVERFLY MODEL

The wiry but whimsical structure resembles that of root and the delicate panels represent the petals. The strings that attaches the project was necessary and added a pop of color, to further attract the insect.

III Model Projects 2018

OVERWHELMED MODEL

Designed to convey a sense of anxiety, relentlessness, and a general feeling of hopelessness, this model utilizes form, shape, size, and color. The red overwhelms the senses and takes away a sense of depth while the round objects seem to grow upon you as you enter the space. Slowly, they engulf you.

III Model Projects 2019

URBN GRDN MODEL

Only through trial and error was this model constructed. Made entirely of balsa and bass wood, this model emphasizes the sites connection to the city of Dallas as a whole and on the importance of structure throughout a project. The rammed earth walls are connected to heavy timber beams and convey a sense of site, are theoretically taken from the site itself once it is excavated for building.

III Model Projects 2019

EXPERIENTIAL FRAMEWORKS MODEL

Through developed tectonic strategies and sequential sketching, a space was developed in a 3’x81’ space that connected vastly different areas on campus. The project captures structure as decor to a space and how it can transform a space through division or unification. The iconic and repeating shape of the structure slowly morphs into the alleyway and directs users up and down a gentle slope to the roof and out the other side of the space. Daylighting, shadows, wind, and views were all driving factors of this design.

IV Graphic Work 2018-2019

GRAPHIC WORK

While I have not had any formal training in graphics, I have worked four jobs which have driven me to be my own teacher. Through my coursework, I’ve developed a deep knowledge of all Adobe Creative Cloud products and use them to my advantage to craft informational posters, seen in my work at the OU College of Architecture, or through whimsical collages, seen below.

AIR CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

Inspired by photos taken around downtown Wichita, KS this collage resembles all the different aspects of the town that make it a known city.

OLD MILL TASTY FLYING COWS

This was inspired by everything I grew up with. Downtown Wichita, KS is filled with metal statues of people, cars, bars, and cows. The flying satellite dishes are actually the concert hall, Century II, and the image shown is of a frequented Douglas Street.

V Personal Paintings 2019

PECULIAR PAINTINGS

Peculiar Paintings was founded in 2017 as a passion project. The bright and vibrant colors add depth and excitement to the ordinary beings in life. I was drawn to painting an older crowd of folks mainly because of the history they have hidden in their lives. A lifetime of experiences is worn on their faces and it is present image, regardless of age.

is hip. He’s cool. He combs his stache incessantly. He was painted with acrylic on RON Ron canvas and is 5”x5”

HAROLD Harold likes his coffee black and his shirts bright. He’s the original oldie-- the first one I ever created. Harold was painted with acrylics on canvas and is 10”x 10” with a groovy color scheme that perfectly fits his weird personality.

GERALD Gerald keeps to himself but keeps an eye on you. He’s got a sick stash that the ladies swoon for. He was painted with acrylics on a piece of reclaimed wood and is 13”x13”.

JENNY Jenny lives a simple life- you can find her sipping on sodas at the local diner more often than not. Her heart shaped glasses are an homage to all the men’s hearts she has broken. Jenny is 5.5”x 7” and about 1” thick. She was made on reclaimed wood with acrylic paint and a groovy color scheme that perfectly fits Jenny’s flirty personality.

MARTHA Martha teaches piano to the local neighborhood kids. She enjoys gardening, reading, and sitting on the porch with her husband, Earl. She was painted with acrylic on canvas. She is 5”x5”.
