THERAPY ROOM

REFLECTING POOL

This therapy space was given extra square footage, for user comfort, in what would normally be a standard sized therapy room. The therapist themselves are given a separate office so that their personal belongings are safe in their own space.

This reflection pool is located just inside the door to the therapy areas. It is designed to be a subtle surprise for the patients of the facility. Water is a symbol of healing and is seen as a representational clean start for the patients.

FLOW WORK STATION 23

DESIGNING FOR GENERATION X Typical office systems and distance education centers are not addressing the needs of design students. They are apt to use more supplies, services and collaboration than a typical distance learner leading to the design of the flow. Generation X is a trophy seeking generation needing consistent movement and multitasking capabilities. THE DESIGN TEAM TRASH RECYCLING

TECHNOLOGY Smart surfaces and overhead cameras make it possible for your entire design process to be documented and digitally transfered. The user can sketch, transfer, create and edit their ideas right on the workstation.

26

MATERIALS The weighted steel workstation frame is coated with plastic laminate featuring surfaces that both function as white-board and magnetic board. The edge of the workstation features adjustable LED lighting to suit the users desires throughout the day.

27

TRUST TABLE Summer 2013 • flat pack design • use of bending plywood • vacuum forming

28

29

BUILDING TRUST

Create a form-work. This could be made out MDF From there cut out five 32x 12 bending plywood or foam insulation board. There can be an additional sheets. Glue. Place in Vacuum forming bag centered lamination step to create a more even surface. over the form-work.

30

Bended form will be longer than needed. Cut off end with bandsaw. (Edge will be uneven from gluing) Cut 2 1/2” planks. This will create 4 legs. Taper each leg by cutting a triangle shaped piece off of each end. Then drill 1/4” hole approx. 1” from the middle of where the board bends. Drill 1/2” recess for wood button.

Construct. Each leg rests on the next, like if you were to sit on the lap of the next. From there bolt and plug the hole with wood button. (You may need to clamp to help torque the table leg when bolting)
