The Brief The Concept

01. Hospitality

The Newtown Town Hotel located on King Street was the selected venue. After an analysis of Newtown demographics a concept was designed to add value to the site, by encouraging the entire community and visitors to experience a wide range of services in this project.

After research into Newtowns past it was clear that the community has always catered to all individuals. The concept of reforming roots meant to slightly alter something to change it to its original form. In other words catering to the entire community. This concept led to the naming of this project “The Canopy Linking roots to a bigger picture. Discovering that there are four levels in a real life canopy gave me a design direction to link each level to one in this site.

site was broken up into a different service on every level in order to work The Design The with the concept of catering to the community. This was done by a visitor

analysis and determining who visits newtown and what is the most common reason to visit. Keeping in mind the concept the design called for an organic, layered, inviting textured design.

The Brief The Concept

02. Work Place

The brief was to accommodate 132 employees from a tech company called Apt into level 35 Barangaroo Tower 1. This company was making a move from a warehouse in Redfern and requested to honour their business journey into their final design whilst enjoying a fresh start.

The concept “Reflect” was designed to bring this vision for Apt to life. This concept was put in place to reflect on the past but inspire the future. “Reflect” was included in all aspects of the design including space planning and materiality whilst introducing hints of industrial design to honour Apts’ journey to Barangaroo.

design included 132 work points, 1 large break out space, 13 meeting The Design This rooms, 11 small booths, 1 wellness space, 1 focus room & 1 collaboration zone. The planning is symmetrical and reflects keeping the concept in mind. Collaboration zones were maximised due to the concealment of structural columns to allow for small meeting booths to be created. Overall the office designed is contemporary and classic providing a fresh start to Apt.

The Brief

03. Retail

The Concept

The brief for this retail project was to design a retail brand of any kind from scratch followed by designing their flagship store for Sydney Westfield. The brand designed was “eco”, an Australian made clothing brand inspired by warmer climates and designed to be a luxe essential in every woman’s wardrobe. The concept for Eco’s flagship store was inspired by the warmer climates and women of all cultures. The name of the concept became “escape to the desert” The aim of this concept was to be immersed into another world and be completely in the moment. This concept is explored through space planning, shape and form, and materiality such as rammed earth.

design intent was to create an experiential retail store that supported the The Design The brand idea. A customer journey started upon entry watching employees sew

clothing then walking through the desert cave to see custom garments hung in arches and display placed on the rotating contour joinery, right through to the arched change rooms where guests can enjoy refreshments. The final design compliments the brands big ideas and creates an immersive retail experience.

The Brief The Concept

04. Tiny House

This tiny house located in Sydney had to accommodate a young couple who enjoy having friends over and sometimes work from home. The couple are passionate about sustainable design therefore the inspiration and concept had to come from bio-mimicry design, imitating something in nature.

Due to the small scale of this site I became inspired by the spider’s web and how it is made. The spiders web then informed my concept of simply complex that would drive this design. The concept was explored by deconstructing a spiders web and implementing my findings through elements and principles of design into the tiny house.

part of this design included design language from the concept. From The Design Every the front facade a geometric wrapping front to the angled walls and joinery

right through to the materiality details. As a spider uses plants to spin a web the main feature of this home is a 3 story vertical garden on the staircase wall conceptually linking back to the core of a spider’s web. The 3 level home features a kitchen, living area on the ground, bathroom and bedroom on level 1 and a home office with a void strategy on level 2.

Conceptual Modeling

The Briefs Factory are a male dance group who were moving their brand into Carriage Works Sydney. The Brief was to design a bar, restaurant, cafe, work spaces, rehearsal space, performance space, gallery and arena for the boys that represented their brand. The concept was derived from the vast contrast of carriage works versus cabaret dance. After deconstructing the two the use of one element from each past was conceptualized. The combination of line taken from the history of Carriage Works and colour was taken from the history of Cabaret. The two elements were explored with model making, creating the concept of Broken Cage. Each space required for the boys was designed with the use of a continuous mesh wall that folded to create space dividers. Additionally large coloured themed boxes break and insert the mesh walls to further define each space. These coloured boxes define the spaces with graphic patterns printed on them which are inspired by The Briefs Factory costumes. This design combines the history of carriage works with the briefs factory brand selling both the boys and the space.

The Concept The Design

elska Branding

The brief for this project was to create my own design brand and design the interiors which aligned with the brand. As I am half Danish I designed a Scandinavian inspired interior design brand that would require retail space and a design studio.

The concept came from my love of design there for creating the concept called “elska which means love in Danish. The concept would translate into the design through look and feel, practical space planning and materiality.

The ground level features a retail display area filled with Scandinavian designed furniture and homewares from designers such as Kristina Dam. Level 1 features an interior design studio which is designed to be a collaborative working space whilst allowing privacy for meetings. The overall design is soft, warm and inviting yet practical which was inspired by the concept elska.

07. Memorial

The Brief

This subject was based on spatial modeling. The brief was to connect with a topic and design a memorial located anywhere in Australia with unlimited size. I was inspired by the ongoing environmental impact on our Great Barrier Reef.

The Concept

The concept and design intent was to inform locals and visitors of the past present and potential future of the reef, and is reflected in the shape of the memorial. The concept given to the design ideation is called “Save the reef.

The Design

Located in Port Douglas 800 metres away from a tour boat dock, the Save The Reef memorial is located on 4 Mile beach facing out to the Great Barrier Reef. The location of the memorial is to encourage visitors from the most popular tourist dock site to visit the memorial for wide exposure. The sloping cone shape of the memorial reflects the past present and future of the reef showing the future of the reef is going down, meaning its dying. Additionally textured plaster is used to reflect the stages of the reef. The walk way through the memorial allows visitors to see into the ocean below and connect to the reef. The end of the memorial leads to an opening where all you can see is the ocean ahead symbolising hope for the reef.

The Proposal

08. Major Work

Proposal Branding

During my final year at Enmore, I am undertaking a year long major project. Semester 1 consisted of selecting a medium scale building and selecting a mixed use design solution. During semester two I will be creating the bespoke design for this major work that will be completed in November. After a lot of research I am proposing, The Blanc by Storefront. A never before seen retail experience located in Woolloomooloo’s Heritage Gunnery in Sydney.

This proposal aims to solve current issues in the retail industry, providing a new approach to end-users shopping experience. As well as providing retailers with a unique, risk-free way to market their brands. The Blanc aims to create an experiential multi-use project that Sydney has never seen before adhering to the needs and desires of our contemporary lifestyle. This retail proposal will explore themes of heritage adaptive reuse, short term themes, pop up retail and hospitality, events, experiential design with the implementation of smart technology and sustainable practices. These themes will work together in order to create a solution for the current retail issues keeping in mind end users and retailers.
