HIDDEN COMMUNITY

Hidden Community is a forward-thinking architectural vision designed with the future in mind. Its approach considers the evolving needs of communities 10, 30, and even 50 years post-construction, with a key focus on creating affordable housing accessible to Australians of all ages. Here, housing is more than just a shelter—it’s a space for fun, connection, and meaningful human interaction.

Central to this project is sustainable development, particularly water management. Hidden Community integrates smart, localized water treatment solutions, ensuring resilience and adaptability within future urban landscapes.

Location:

METROPOLITAN RHIZOMES

A ‘Systems’ Architecture and Urban Design studio that analyses the ‘activity centres’ around Melbourne; more specifically Camerwell Junction. An activity centre is a mixed-use urban area that attracts people for shopping, working, studying, or recreation. Whilst the majority of this hybrid map focuses on Camberwell Junction, the other activity centres are also mapped out; highlighting relevant data that allows viewers - such as yourself - to compare size, dwelling prices, metro lines, current and projected growth and more with the other centres.

Camberwell Junction is the closest activity centre to Melbourne’s CBD, whose urban fabric displays a rich heterogeneity of forms, uses and underutilised spaces. The studio calls for a forward-thinking reimagination of Camberwell Junction; its present and projected population growth, the partially poor and outdated building stock, and the problematic public realm situations lacking urban porosity and orientation. Our reinvisioning of Camberwell Junction aim at producing an innovative mixed-use, lively, and economically striving new Metropolitan Center.

BONDING CITY

Bonding City - An architectural development of one of the successful urban forms from Mini City where existing buildings are expanded for density. F.A.R = 2.25

Main goal is to keep the the existing building’s structures as much as possible

An open public staircase from the ground floor provides views to the public street, fostering interaction while serving as a transitional element between the new and existing buildings.

PAW HEALING

Paw Healing reimagines underutilized residential spaces, transforming them into vibrant commercial hubs. As a pet therapy center, it seamlessly integrates into residential zones, fostering community inclusivity and accessibility to essential services.

Championing sustainable design, Paw Healing prioritizes reusing construction waste, reducing environmental impact while cutting costs. The result is thoughtfully designed spaces that revitalize neighborƯapproach to development.

This project focuses on the adaptive reuse of a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom residential dwelling into a commercially viable space. The core objective is to establish a replicable methodology for transforming existing homes into functional commercial entities.

The initial phase involves meticulous measurement of the existing structure, followed by a rigorous assessment of its thermal performance using a blower door test and building sustainable guideline. This data-driven approach informs the subsequent material experimentation stage, where potential applications and detailing of readily available materials are explored within the existing site.
