The present design manual of the corporate design of Karashizuka B & B and determines the various areas of application. We have focused on the main aspects. The guide lines have been designed for simple application and an easy understanding, whatever the means of communication concerned. The guidelines and design speci cations have a binding effect on all Karashizuka B & B employees and shall as a general rule apply to the company’s internal and external communication. Each individual employee shall be responsible for strictly adhering to these guidelines. Only if these speci cations have been consistently complied with will the desired uniform appearance be achieved.

Profile of the owner Welcome to Karashizuka B&B! I am Hanyi, typical Malaysian. I am a graphic designer. Besides, I am one of the owner of Karashizuka B&B located in ‘ The Pear of Orient’ Penang, Malaysia. Have you even wondered what is the meaning of Karashizuka? Well, Karashizuka comes from a Japanese word, which means Silent and free from your soul. Name it as Karashizuka B&B is because I realize the people in the city nowadays are stressful and do not have free time to travel around. Some of the people even feel sleeping is wasting time. It shows an unhealthy scenario for the people. Therefore my teammates and I decided to have a Karashizuka B&B, the place for people to relax and free from stress.
A brief history of B&B Bed and breakfasts have been very popular with the traveling public in Europe for years. It was in England, Scotland and Ireland that the term “B&B” first came into use. Tourists will see B&B signs in many windows there. The term “bed and breakfast” is not used in many other countries. Nowadays, the B&B is not viewed as a low-cost lodging facility but as an attractive alternative to the typical standard chain hotel or motel room. After several years staying in Japan, finally I come back to the land where i was born, Malaysia. However, I can’t find any Japanese B&B but there is a lot of Japanese restaurant here. This shows that Japanese culture is getting popular in Malaysia. It makes me wonder, “ Why there is none of Japanese B&B here?” I can see the potential of opening a Japanese B&B in Malaysia, as I know Malaysians like to explore more and open-minded to new culture. In 2012, I decided to open Karashizuka B&B with the concept of relax and simple. I notice the people in the city are so stressful and busy with their works from days to days. They need a place to relax and slow down their speed. So Karashizuka is the most suitable place for them to stay and refresh themselves from heavy workload. By the way, they can experience Japanese culture in Malaysia and save their time traveling to Japan. I strongly believe Karashizuka B&B can bring new culture and experience to local people and tourist. As I know people nowadays like to experience new thing.

1.2/ LOGO components The Daruma doll (daruma), also known as a Dharma doll, is a hollow, round, Japanese traditional doll modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen sect ofBuddhism. These dolls, though typically red and depicting a bearded man (Dharma), vary greatly in color and design depending on region and artist. Though considered an omocha, meaning toy, Daruma has a design that is rich in symbolism and is regarded more as a talisman of good luck to the Japanese. Daruma dolls are seen as a symbol of perseverance and good luck, making them a popular gift of encouragement. The doll has also been commercialized by many Buddhist temples to use alongside goal setting.
Why name it as 空静 in Japanese (read as Karashizuka) which mean silent or free from soul. Free soul means we don’t get ‘tied down’ by relationships or work. Our spirit isn’t bound by common bindings or environment. Nowadays people in city are busy with works everyday so our emotions are getting stress. I do hope youngers like us tend to loss the important thing in our life, it can be our family members, your lovers or friends. Therefore, we need a place to relax and calm down ourselves to slow down our life. Wish everyone can free from the strings attached by the social.
