ABOUT HAOYUAN MA
My name is Haoyuan Ma. I come from China, Lanzhou City which is a small city in the Northwest of China. I have been at AAU for three years, and my major is Interior Architecture Design. I have studied interior design for six years. I received my bachelor degree from Xi’an Engineer University which is in China, and I chose interior design as my major when I was in my undergraduate school. I chose the interior design for my major because I think in this society where more and more people spend much time in interior space, interior space plays a very important role in people’s daily lives. As a result, I want to be an excellent interior designer and I hope I can create some comfortable and elegant interior space which may make people who stay there enjoying their lives. In the future, I will seek an internship in some famous company which is located in San Francisco when I graduate from AAU. I hope I can get some work experience.

Situation:
User Scenario This project will have several different spaces. Our client want to have a physical office space in the future, so we need to design a private office for the 3-5 people work in there. In consideration of Design Milk is a famous Online magazine, they expect that there will be growth in the events space, perhaps e-commerce and other needs will likely be added and they want to show some products for the visitor. Therefore, we should create a showroom, and pop-up store in this space. In order to they accommodate special events, the use of flexible furniture is good solution for showroom. Also there will be 1-2 people working in the showroom and pop-up store.

In addition, pop-up store and show room can be public spaces for employee, “Maximum volume of minimum materials is a good concept that will be used to make this space more functional. Flexible fixture is a good option to use in the pop-up store and showroom space.

Zigzag Concept The meaning of this word is A line, course, or progression characterized by sharp turns first to one side and then to the other. One of a series of such turns, as in a line or path. I choose this concept because I got inspiration from the logo of Design Milk. The logo is designed like a milk box that is created by lines. The zigzag line has the strength of the shapes, and this characteristic gives modern and minimalist feeling.

Connect Bright Spacious
The university building is a mix-use space, and there maybe different functional areas in one building. Each area have their own specific function, but those spaces also has relationships between each others. As the designer, we should to consider how to make those areas work well together. Therefore, when we design this project should think about how to connect those different spaces. Making a good space arrangement is necessary for this project. The main function for university is study, so creating a bright space for the young people is a good way make student have good mood study in there, since bright color can maintain student a positive emotion or attitude. Also a spacious s can bring the feeling of relax for the people, create this building more spacious is a good solution.
Flexibility Space layout
The I chose sustainability, flexibility and interaction. Today, when we design project, the first important thing we may consider how to make space more sustainable. In this project I would like to bring natural light go into the building, make a bright space. For design the public space we must to think about flexibility, the school building will accommodate many people work and study in there, to create a flexible space is designer’s goal. Since this building has many different rooms, how to arrange these rooms is a difficult problem, a good space layout and circulation is our design target.

Store Information Official outpost for hats, jerseys & other licensed merchandise touting the San Francisco Giants. This store is a good place for fans of Giants because people have a store close by to pick up Giants gear for themselves or for presents, without having to hit up the store at AT&T park or downtown San Francisco. This store located in S Main street, walnut creek. This street is commercial street in this city. This new store give convenient for the neighbor and the most customers come to this store is fan of Giants San Francisco.
Giants Store
81
Project Information The texture of exterior wall is red brick, it is like the the exterior of AT&T park. And above the entrance has the logo of Giants Dugout store. Three window located two side of door. Like use brick cover the column and some shelf use the dark green color. This store use some elements about baseball court. For example, there is a shelf like the fence in the baseball court. This kind of shelf create a private space that is like a display area. This store has a special area on the back of store. They even have a machine towards in this place can customize a jersey with any name. I think it is the good idea for attract the customers. Behind cashier desk has some wood showcase on the back wall. Each of showcase display a famous star’s jersey. Also has a Giants logo above these showcases.
Design Concept
Honeycomb The perfectly symmetrical shape of the hexagonal pattern work to create a strong structural skeleton that is both steady and lightweight. I could use this concept to design the furniture, for example, the wall fixture or capacity fixture. Also use the elements of honeycomb to design the wall or ceiling.

Use sustainable material to design the furniture, like use the reclaim wood to design fixture. Use this concept to create a good circulation in this retail store.
Giants Store
83
Sustainable Design & Material When i design this store, I primarily like to use sustainable wood species found in North America such as “Ash wood”. I would like to use this kind of wood to design some customized furniture. Also wall decoration will be use sustainable wood. Bamboo flooring is made a fast-growing renewable “timber”. It is natural antibacterial, water-resistant and extremely. Therefore, use this wood flooring for the high traffic area is the best choice. LED light can be used for environment and task lighting. LED light has many advantages over incandescent light sources including lower energy consumption, longer lifetime. The LED light is better light fixture for retail space.

Flexible Design
Use wall fixture into the store can be reduce to use retail space, the advantage is provide enough space for the customers. The space between each shelf minimal has five foot, customers can easily walk through in the store.

My client is an International Architecture Design Company. They decided to open a new design office in SOMA district of San Francisco. They do both commercial and residential design. Right now, they are focusing on doing sustainable design for both field. Their design team not only includes different designers from different fields, but also has a multicultural background so that they can understand their clients even better. For this company, they are good at utilizing various sustainable strategies and new technologies to make sustainability. A lot of design they did already achieve LEED certification. Their belief is to change people’s lives with ideal sustainable solutions and bring the modern technology to the reality.

As an architecture design company, they can design any styles that clients ask. However, the best design style they are expert in is minimalism.
Concept Philosophy
Stone / Purity / Minimalism In this project, I chose “stone as my concept. I use this idea because my client is a architecture company. As we know, the stone can give a feeling of stable. From stone concept I use element of irregular geometric to design the custom furniture and ceiling. For the purity concept, I used less color, less material and less decor to create a pure space, but it will be sustainable and comfortable. Sustainable space means a pure spacial environment without any harmful materials to nature and people who occupy it. My intention is to create a space which focus on functionality and space arrangement rather than excess decoration.
