HappyValley.com is a comprehensive, one-stop guide to fun in Happy Valley, organized by where-to-stay, what-to-do, and where-to-eat, with a special focus on Penn State events and attractions.

Who makes up your audience of visitors?

Our core audience is made up of Penn State alumni, fans and visitors who have a super high affinity for Happy Valley, and all the unique opportunities available for dining, shopping, lodging, recreation, attractions, events, and ALL THINGS FUN. More than 60% of our visitors are from outside of Happy Valley, in areas with high populations of Penn State alumni and fans: Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, York/Lancaster, DC, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Ohio. The remaining 40% of our visitors are local or from nearby surrounding areas, including Altoona, Johnstown, Lewistown, and Williamsport.

Why is the site comprehensive?

Our main mission is to provide a service to our audience. For that reason, we provide all the information we think is critical to this mission. Sometimes that means we promote businesses that are not (yet!) paying advertisers. Our current advertisers can tell you, we value their partnership with us, and go the extra mile to make them the central focus of the site.

What differentiates HappyValley.com from other local websites?

First and foremost, HappyValley.com is not a community site. State College and Centre County are fortunate to have several websites devoted to our thriving local community. HappyValley.com promotes our area as a destination and “second home” for Penn State alumni, fans and visitors. We work hard to hold tight to this audience niche and to stay true to our mission. That means HappyValley.com doesn’t include content such as: personals ads, job listings, community events, movie and TV reviews, horoscopes, and local news. It’s important to note that we publish what we call “The Happy Valley Vibe”—a weekly compilation of local headlines that we know our audience cares about.

Why does HappyValley.com’s unique visitor rate fluctuate throughout the year?

We experience our highest traffic around major events: Blue-White Weekend, Penn State graduation and Reunion Weekend, Fourth Fest, Arts Fest, Back to School, and, of course, football season. Believe it or not, our football season traffic actually ramps up in July when visitors start planning their fall weekends in Happy Valley. Even during months when we experience our lowest levels of traffic—35,000-40,000 unique visitors—we are still reaching more people than print mediums and radio stations in State College. More importantly, our visitors are on our site for when reason: to plan their fun. They are ready to make a buying decision and seeking out the best resources to help them.

Why would I advertise all year when the visitor traffic here is seasonal?

Penn State alumni and people who fall in love with Happy Valley are always seeking reasons to come back. We give them all the reason they need—during both busy times and off-seasons we promote all the opportunities for fun in Happy Valley.

Every unique visitor on HappyValley.com is a qualified lead for your business.
