Since 1979, Harbourfront Centre Camps have provided opportunities for exploration, creativity and personal growth within a positive camp atmosphere. Participants are inspired through meaningful participation and enriching experiences in all facets of arts and contemporary culture. Camp provides a unique setting in which learning and fun intersect and critical life skills are honed. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and diverse learning community that allows our campers to learn and interpret the world in which we live through dialogue, social interaction and facilitated hands-on activities. Harbourfront Centre’s unique location and institutional experience allows us to focus on giving our campers a fun and enriching experience. The 2017 camp season was one of our most successful to date! Thanks to the hard work of our dedicated staff and ongoing support from our camp families, we welcomed over 6,000 campers to our home on Toronto’s waterfront. As we look to the 2018 camp season we are pleased to announce a number of new camps for the upcoming year, such as Digital Storytelling, Movin’ and Groovin’, Softball, Overnight Intro and more! We are also excited to introduce P.A. Day camps for the fall of 2018. We are offering P.A. Day Camps that are designed to ensure your camper spends their day away from school filled with fun and learning! Harbourfront Centre is a registered charity and not-for-profit organization. P.A. Day Camps Fall 2018 During the school year there are several times when Toronto school boards have the same P.A. Days. When that occurs, Harbourfront Centre is here to offer an exciting and engaging experience. We are offering P.A. Day Camps that are designed to ensure your camper spends their day away from school filled with fun and learning! Campers will explore a world of arts and culture, create a work of visual art, engage with our gallery, and get a chance to get movinâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; and groovinâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; to work off some of their energy through the day. Campers have the opportunity to engage with other kids while being supported by creative and experienced staff. As this is a one day program, we want to make this as accessible to you and your campers as possible. Camp programming will run from 9:15am to 3:45pm. The Extended Program Day is included with P.A. Day Camps. This wellsupervised general program is offered between 7:30 and 9:15am and at the end of the day between 3:45 and 6pm. Children will have the option to participate in various arts and crafts activities, board games, and quiet and active games during this time. Creative Camps Dance, Dance, Dance Ages 5-7 This camp is perfect for the child who likes to move! With the support and guidance of a Dance Instructor and skilled staff, campers will explore various forms of dance and creative movement while improving confidence, coordination and stage presence. At the end of the week, dancers will perform their new moves at a special recital. $285

Creative Arts Ages 6-8 Campers will have the opportunity to experiment with different materials and be inspired by artists and cultures, letting their imaginations soar. Our Artist Educators will guide campers through the artistic process to create work that draws on their own experiences and visions. $285

Circus Arts Ages 6-10 There’s no need to run away and join the circus, not when there’s Circus Arts! Under the instruction and supervision of our highly trained circus pros, campers will experience acrobatics, trapeze, juggling and clowning. Equipment is specially designed with youth and safety in mind. This camp is coordinated by Marsha Kennington, a circus professional and instructor with over 35 years of circus instruction experience. Marsha and her staff of highly skilled and qualified circus professionals allow groups and individuals to move at their own pace in accordance with their age and ability. Please Note: Due to cold winter weather this camp will be held in the Brigantine Room and not in a circus tent.

Stories and words make up the world around us! Campers will engage with Artist Educators to learn about different storytelling media: written word, graphic novel, spoken word, and many others. Concepts such as narrative structure, character development, pacing and dialogue will be explored in a final project.

Taking inspiration from the solo exhibition by Algerian-born French artist Kader Attia as featured in the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, campers will be guided in viewing and discussing the theme of repair, especially following difficult circumstances including physical injury and armed conflict. Attia contrasts the idea of repair in Western culture – a desire to return something to its original state – to the idea of repair in African and Japanese cultures, which highlight an object’s imperfections. Throughout the week, campers will create sculptural objects using a variety of materials (clay, wire, metal and everyday objects).

Pop Star Ages 8-12 For the camper who loves to sing and perform! Working with experienced musicians and choreographers, campers will participate in vocal and dance workshops designed to enhance their natural talents while building confidence and stage presence – all culminating in an end-of-camp performance. $285

Campers will learn to capture form through quick sketching, using positive and negative space to create depth and texture, as well as experiment with a variety of media and techniques. Our highly qualified and enthusiastic staff create a safe, engaging and nurturing environment for our youngest group of campers, encouraging new friendships, camper enrichment, creativity and self-expression. Small groups offer a low camper-to-counsellor ratio, ensuring safe supervision and individual attention while facilitating camper learning and development.

In partnership with Reptilia Zoo we are excited to offer this interactive and educational experience for all young reptile aficionados! Reptilia Zoo is a CAZA accredited educational organization that is devoted to showcasing and promoting the importance of different reptiles and amphibians in nature. Working with passionate and confident reptile handlers, campers will get hands-on experience with various species and discover the importance of their cold-blooded friends through conservation, arts, games and exploration.

Please Note: Due to the changes to the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 all participants must be 4 by the start of the camp session. Campers who are not the required age will be withdrawn from the camp at the expense of the parents. Proof of age may be requested by the camp at any time.

Wonder and excitement! Chess lovers, from beginner to advanced, will enjoy unparalleled instruction in chess strategy. Travel to ancient ruins and battle legendary monsters! Dungeons & Dragons is regarded as a foundational contemporary role-playing game. Campers use their imagination and creativity to overcome obstacles and outwit opponents. Campers learn cooperation, independence and problem-solving skills while story-telling and interacting with peers. Suitable for first-time players or for experienced D&D’ers alike.

Young Builders Ages 8-12 Imagine, build and create! This hands-on camp is perfect for any young builder who wants to experiment with a variety of tools and materials and interpret the built and natural world around them. Through creative thinking, teamwork and a whole lot of imagination, campers will have the opportunity to build some really cool projects.

Spend the March Break in the great outdoors! This new program gives campers a taste of overnight camping at Toronto and Region Conservation Authority’s (TRCA) beautiful Lake St. George Field Centre in Richmond Hill. Campers will spend the first day of camp on site at Harbourfront Centre in preparation for their experience. On Tuesday, they will travel by bus to Lake St. George where they will be housed in the Bond House dormitory, a climatecontrolled facility with washroom and shower facilities. Campers will participate in winter ecology activities, arts and crafts, and active games and sports, returning on Friday afternoon with new skills and a sense of independence. $680

Discover the fun of editions and multiples through the world of printmaking. Campers will learn how to mix inks, develop mark-making and create their own series. From screen print to relief to colligraph, this camp is anything but flat!

This camp is for the aspiring chef who would like to explore the wonderful world of food. Working with experienced chef instructor, Chef Mick, our young cooks and foodies will learn the FUN-damentals of cooking and nutrition while they create and present mouth-watering dishes in Harbourfront Centreâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s very own World Cafe kitchens. Campers will learn the process of making tasty, nutritious meals from beginning to end. Each session will focus on different recipes, techniques and themes.

This exciting program will provide an introduction to the world of fashion. Fundamentals of design provide the basis for campers to create sketches, design and execute projects from start to finish. Young designers will work with raw fabrics and recycled clothing to craft their final masterpieces, which they will show off at the campâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s very own runway show!

Instructor Profile Born and raised in Newcastle, Chef Michael (Mick) Elliott is ranked among the top three chef instructors in the world. He has achieved the acclaimed designation of Certified Chef de Cuisine (C.C.C.), is a Certified Red Seal chef and holds an Executive Master of Science Degree in: Culinary Chef Administration (M.Sc). He has received numerous medals and awards for culinary excellence in regional and international competitions, televised series, contributions to culinary textbooks and associations with various advisory boards within the food industry.

Calling all aspiring architects! This hands-on program allows campers to participate in modeling, engineering, and architectural activities that explore basic concepts of architecture, urban planning and design. Along with our skilled staff, campers will work with their peers to engage in tasks that are designed to develop skills through the design process, negotiation, decision making and problem solving.

Campers will be introduced to the world of cosplay (â&#x20AC;&#x153;costume playâ&#x20AC;?) while exploring techniques that help them design and create costumes. Working with Artist Educators, campers will learn what it takes to put together the costumes that make a character. This camp is sure to push imagination and creativity to the limit.

Working with guest artists and skilled Artist Educators, campers will explore social change and hip-hop culture including spoken word, beatboxing, creating beats, breakdancing and graffiti art. At the end of the session, campers will have the chance to perform and showcase their pieces for friends, families and peers.

Taking script to stage, campers will have the opportunity to work with a selection of pieces in preparation for their end of session showcase. $575 Session 4

Artists will have the opportunity to focus on their drawing and painting skills in this program. Campers will learn to capture form through sketching, pen and ink techniques, using positive and negative space to create depth and texture as well as experimenting with a variety of mediums. If you are looking to polish your skills and push your creativity to the next level, this is the program for you.

This specialized program is for budding chefs and passionate foodies. Working with renowned chef instructor, Chef Mick, participants will explore various aspects of the culinary arts working in Harbourfront Centre’s very own World Café kitchens. In this safe, professional, commercial kitchen, campers will experience the challenge of cooking and learn techniques to making tasty, nutritious meals from beginning to end. Each session will explore different recipes, techniques and themes.

In connection with the upcoming solo exhibitions at the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery by artists Abbas Akhavan (based in Toronto) and Ellen Gallagher (based in New York and Rotterdam), campers will learn how a variety of mediums may be used to consider history, narrative and mythology. Gallagher’s work includes abstract watercolour painting, illustrative drawing and films that incorporate both analogue and 3D animation to create stories rooted in historical events. Overnight Camps In partnership with Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), Harbourfront Centre Camps is pleased to offer overnight camp experiences at TRCAâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s beautiful Lake St. George Field Centre located in Richmond Hill. The TRCA is one of Ontarioâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s leading outdoor and environmental education providers with over 50 years of history and experience. The Lake St. George Field Centre is located in the Town of Richmond Hill and occupies a 120-hectare site on the ecologically significant Oak Ridges Moraine. Each of the overnight experiences will be run in partnership with the staff at the Lake St. George Field Centre. Campers will participate in a variety of programs including, but not limited to lake ecology, biodiversity, orienteering, canoeing, wilderness survival and teambuilding on the low ropes course to name a few. Campers will be supervised by experienced Harbourfront Centre Camps staff. At Lake St. George Field Centre, campers will be housed in the Bond House dormitory, a climate-controlled facility with washroom and shower facilities, classroom, lounge, kitchenette area, ping pong table and mudroom. Each day campers will be provided with three healthy and delicious home-cooked meals and a snack in accordance to the Canada Food Guide guidelines. Please Note: On the week of the overnight camp experience, campers will start their day at Harbourfront Centre on the Monday morning for attendance and will then be bussed to the Lake St. George Field Centre leaving at approximately 9:30am. During this “catch- up” week, sailors will be coached by experienced and certified Sail Canada instructors who are eager to make sure every child has the opportunity to attempt to complete their CANSail level. This program is developed based on the individual needs of each participant, and is tailored by our development progress monitoring report through Sail Canada’s evaluation tracking system. It should be noted that participants’ involvement does not guarantee certification if they do not meet Sail Canada standard. Regardless, participants who show they have a passion and initiative for sailing will gain a lot from this additional week!

Designed for aspiring sailors, this introduction to the exciting world of sailing and cruising is pitched to older campers. Under the supervision of our experienced Sail Canada instructors, participants will gain confidence on the water while safely cruising around the Toronto Harbour and Islands aboard one of our J-24s and Sonar keelboats. From mastering boat controls, racing on the harbour, to geocache treasure hunts via boat around the bay, the experience is limited only by a camper’s imagination. Sailors will gain plenty of practical handson experience while developing basic sailing skills and being introduced to cruising and confidence around others in a team environment.

Taught by our experienced Sail Canada certified instructors, this two-week course will have campers navigating Toronto’s inner harbour in comfortable, easy to sail dinghies, all the while learning about water and boat safety, boat control, knots, rigging, capsizing and other topics relevant to developing young sailors. The curriculum is based on Sail Canada standards and campers will work towards earning internationally recognized certificates for each level by demonstrating skills learned in the program. Canoe

Ages 6-8 This exciting camp provides loads of outdoor fun and activities for young campers. After being introduced to basic canoeing strokes and theory, campers will use 24- and 36-foot Voyageur canoes to explore Toronto’s inner harbour and the sheltered lagoons of our scenic Toronto Islands. It is here where they practice their new skills and explore nature. Camp games, crafts and sometimes nature walks on our site and on the islands are also part of the great overall experience for our young participants.

Ages 9-15 Campers, grouped by age, learn the exciting sport of canoeing through instruction in paddling techniques and boat rescues. Campers will explore Toronto’s protected inner harbour and the amazing lagoons of the Toronto Islands while learning paddling skills, water safety, environmental awareness and weather prediction. Leadership games and other fun, on-land activities are also programmed in the parks of our Toronto Islands. Most of our time is spent on the water (weather permitting).

Camps Office

Our online camps registration system is provided by CampBrain and is available at harbourfrontcentre.com/camps. The registration system is PCI compliant and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Camps Office is located on the third floor of the Harbourfront Centre Main Building (Bill Boyle Artport), 235 Queens Quay West, and can be accessed using the south elevator during camp sessions or through the Security Desk at the north entrance when camp is not in session.

Office Hours Regular office hours when camp is not in session are 8am – 4pm (Monday-Friday, excluding holidays). During camp, the Camps Office hours are 7:30am – 6pm (Monday–Friday, excluding holidays).

Registration Fees March Break Camp Fees

Camp fees must be paid in full at the time of registration for our March Break Camps. Payments by cheque will only be accepted until March 2, 2018.

Summer Camp Fees

There is a $100 deposit per camper per camp required for all registrations. All balances must be paid in full by 8am (EST), on June 1, 2018, after which all payments must be made in full and cheques are no longer accepted.

Cancellation Policy Cancellation requests must be made in writing. All cancellations are subject to a $50 administration fee per camp session and per child cancelled. Refunds for cancellations requested within 10 business days of the start date of your child’s camp session are subject to a cancellation penalty of 50% of the total fee. There are no refunds for cancellations requested after the start date of your child’s camp session. Any refund requests are considered on an individual basis by the Camps Manager and Camps Registrar. Cancellation requests due to medical reasons must be accompanied by a doctor’s note at the time of the request. Please Note: For registrations processed by cash, cheque or money order, please allow 4–6 weeks for a refund by cheque.

Camp Transfer Policy Camp transfer requests must be requested at least 5 business days before the start date of your child’s camp session. Requests will be considered based on availability of space within the requested program. Transfers made less than 10 business days before the start date will not be eligible for a partial refund if the camp transferred into is a lesser fee. Please Note: There is a $30 transfer administration fee per camp transfer and per child transfer. There are no refunds of transfer fees.

Financial Assistance Kids First Program Harbourfront Centre is a registered charitable organization and financial assistance is available through our Kids First Program. Applications are considered individually and in confidence. Please Note: All Kids First applicants must submit a complete application to be considered. Preference will be given to first-time Kids First Program applications. Spaces are limited and based on availability. Please visit: harbourfrontcentre.com/camps to download the subsidy application form or call the Camps Office at 416 973 4093 for more information. Incomplete applications will not be considered. It is the responsibility of the family to ensure package is complete.

The Lunch Lady

Camps T-Shirts

The Lunch Lady has been preparing individually catered lunches since 1993. Today they are the largest provider in Canada, serving thousands of meals in schools, camps and daycare centres through their network of locally owned and operated Lunch Lady kitchens. All meals are prepared fresh daily in peanut/nut free provincially inspected kitchens. Menus offer choices that are familiar to and enjoyed by all children while meeting and exceeding the nutritional guidelines set by the province. All meal plan orders must be made through the Camps Office. Registration for the meal plan closes every Wednesday for the following week. Requests made after this time cannot be accommodated. Due to the nature of the service we cannot accommodate food allergies of any kind or any special dietary restrictions. We do not recommend the meal plan for children who are picky eaters. We strongly recommend sending additional snacks for children who are on the meal plan as they will be quite active throughout the day and will need their energy. Refunds will only be processed for those who cancel the meal plan in writing at least 10 business days prior to the start date of their childâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s camp after which refunds will not be processed. Meals cost $49.75 (HST included) per week. Except for 1A and 3B, where the meal plan costs $40.75 (HST included). Please note: Hot lunch options are only provided at our March Break Camps.

Camper Drop-Off/ Camper Pick-Up

Parking On-Site

Camper Drop-Off opens at 8:30am and will remain open until 9:15am. Camper Pick-Up opens at 3:45pm and will close at 4:30pm. Basic programming and free time will be offered while the campers wait during this time. Camper Drop-Off and Pick-Up is located at the Brigantine Room in the north end of 235 Queens Quay West (Bill Boyle Artport).

Complimentary 20-minute parking is available on-site during drop-off (7:15–9:15am) and pick-up (3:30– 6pm) times during the camp session. The parking pass MUST be clearly displayed on your dashboard when your vehicle is on-site. Harbourfront Centre Camps is not responsible for any parking infractions that may be issued as a result of failure to display the pass clearly and/ or misuse of the parking pass. The entrance to our parking facility is located at 235 Queens Quay West (at the foot of Lower Simcoe Street). Vehicles travelling east along Queens Quay cannot turn right onto our campus. Please proceed directly into the underground parking facility (vehicle height restriction 78”) and do not stop in the laneway. Additional parking is available at our Rees Street lot located on the northwest corner of Rees Street and Queens Quay West (318 Queens Quay West).

Please Note: This location has changed since 2017. If you require supervision of your child(ren) outside the usual Camper Drop-Off and Pick-Up times, please sign-up for our Extended Program Day. Campers who are picked up late and are not registered for the Extended Program Day will be charged $15.00 for a late pickup.

Late Pick-Up It is the responsibility of the families to ensure that campers are picked up on time. Campers who are picked up after 6pm will be charged a $1.00/minute fee in order to compensate the staff member who must stay with them to supervise.

Extended Program Day This well-supervised general program is offered between 7:30–9:15am and at the end of the day between 3:45–6pm. Children will have the option to participate in various arts and crafts activities, board games, quiet and active games during this time. All campers who are registered in the Extended Program Day should be dropped off and picked up in the Lakeside Terrace in the south end of 235 Queens Quay West (Bill Boyle Artport) in the morning and the afternoon. Additional fees apply. Pre-registration is mandatory and space is limited. Travel by Self

Stop

This option is for campers whose parents and/or guardians have authorized them to travel to and from camp by themselves. Travel by Self Campers must sign in at The Loft between 8:45–9:15am and will be released at the end of the day starting at 3:45pm from The Loft. Please sign the authorization section of the registration form accordingly. This option is only available to children who are 10 years and older, unless another sibling who is 12 years or older is responsible for the child who is younger than 10 years.

Camp Busing (Summer Camps Only Sessions 1A to 4B) We provide bus service from designated locations throughout Toronto. Each bus has an assigned Bus Marshal and busing staff. Busing is on a first-come, firstserved basis, so please register early to secure a seat. Additional fees apply.

Bus Service Cancellation Policy (Summer Camps Only) Bus service cancellation requests must be made in writing at least 10 business days before the start date of your child(ren)’s camp session. There are no refunds for busing cancelled within 10 days of the start of your child’s camp session. Harbourfront Centre Camps reserves the right to cancel bus service due to insufficient registrations and/or modify routes, if necessary.
