PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND?
We were both working separately before we started together at Harcourts Four Seasons. Mitch was working at Ray White in Auckland, while Mana was working in advertising. We were both a bit bored of what we were doing and wanted to make a big change – we were prepared to work hard, but wanted to see the rewards for giving it our all. Deciding to unite together and work for Harcourts Four Seasons was the best decision we made.
WHY HARCOURTS FOUR SEASONS?
We both grew up in North Canterbury where HFS is extremely strong and we had family already in the franchise, so it was a no-brainer. The energy of the company was also important – we wanted to work alongside normal people that we could connect with on a day-to-day basis and that fit perfectly with HFS.
WHAT WERE YOUR FIRST YEARS LIKE?
Our first years in real estate were harder than we ever imagined. We focused 100% on work above anything else, but it was also exciting. We got our
first listing and then our first sale and then our next listing and so on. We could really see the hard work paying off, slowly but surely, and that gave us momentum to keep going. With real estate you don’t have to necessarily be the smartest, experienced or most trained person – but you have to learn to adapt and be prepared to do your best. Anyone can have great potential in real estate regardless of their background or what they were doing before.
ACHIEVEMENTS?
We’ve been fortunate enough to consistently rank as top performing consultants for both Harcourts Four Seasons and also Harcourts Christchurch. We achieved 6th Top Selling Consultants for both Harcourts New Zealand and Harcourts Worldwide which we were very proud of – and have received a number of other awards. However, whilst awards are nice, they aren’t our priority. We want to provide strong work and happy clients – and sometimes the small wins like selling a really difficult property, getting a buyer over the line after weeks of negotiations or getting a call-back from a past client are the things that make you feel really good at the end of the day.
WHAT’S THE MANAGEMENT LIKE?
The management and support at HFS is really accessible. We can call any of the owners or managers and have a relaxed conversation about anything we’re dealing with, which is important to us. At times there are definitely stress-points in this job – and in those situations it’s good to know you’ve got support on your team to help see you through. It’s a huge team at HFS but you don’t feel lost in the crowd and there’s plenty of opportunity to find support in the style that suits you.
MOST SATISFYING MOMENT?

It’s easy in this industry to become completely consumed by real estate, but moving forward our focus is on the integrity of our work. Ensuring that we are doing the best job for our clients and that we are taking care of buyers, whilst still maintaining a lifestyle balance so that we can give our absolute best.
WORDS OF ADVICE FOR ANYONE CONSIDERING A MOVE INTO REAL ESTATE?
Don’t worry if you don’t know if you’ll be a good real estate agent. Get into it and give it a go, the worst thing that can happen is you decide it’s not for you, but you’ll never know unless you try. And if it is for you, it could completely change your life!

I met with three different companies, and for me the important part was the authenticity of the people I met. The manager at the time appeared
to share my values and work ethics, and I liked the infrastructure offered by the Harcourts franchise. I liked and could see merit in working within a larger franchise, ensuring the administrative and marketing resources were available.
WHAT WERE YOUR FIRST YEARS LIKE?
I ensured I was teamed up with an experienced sales consultant as I saw no benefit in making the same mistakes already made by others in the industry. This was an exceptional training ground and allowed me to learn from, and be supported by, an established agent. It felt soul destroying at times and I spent a bit of time walking the pavement and making cold calls, but got there in the end.
ACHIEVEMENTS?
I have been very lucky to have achieved awards since my first year, and the Top Sales Consultant in our office for the past 7 years. I was personally interested in getting into the Lifestyle market and have successfully held a strong presence in that market the last few years. I achieved top sales person for Four Seasons 2023/2024.
WHAT’S THE MANAGEMENT LIKE?
I think the ownership team are exceptional and they have gained my loyalty by the way they treat their staff and conduct themselves. A truly supportive team.
MOST SATISFYING MOMENT?
The satisfaction of helping people through quite a stressful period of their lives. Some of the auction highlights during the increasing market were hugely exciting, but overall helping people achieve their goals when it comes to homes.
WORDS OF ADVICE FOR ANYONE
CONSIDERING A MOVE INTO REAL ESTATE?
Always have a slush fund set aside, for me I need at least 3 months salary to feel comfortable. I strongly encourage you to meet your potential manager and get a feel for the team dynamic as I believe this can vary dramatically between companies and offices. Find a good mentor who can guide you.
