Smart isn’t only something that you are naturally—it is also the time and effort you put into something. Kids who are resilient and persevere are the ones who flourish, those who have grit, will work hard to achieve their goals, and make strategies for how to reach them. Our students value hard work. HARLEM ACADEMY TEACHER

Students enter Harlem Academy curious and engaged. In lower school, they learn core skills in reading, writing, math, and science and develop habits for ongoing intellectual and social growth. The school pillars— initiative, integrity, compassion, and determination—are woven into each day.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM

At Harlem Academy they expect a lot from you - even if you have an ‘A’ you can do better. Their standards are higher than your own. The things they teach you become second nature. HARLEM ACADEMY STUDENT

Middle school courses are built to challenge our bright and inquisitive students with rigorous content, opportunities for applied learning, and ample time for independent exploration. The program includes many traditional offerings, but we also welcome innovations that help us better prepare students for top secondary schools.

“There is more community here than at other schools. Here we work with focus. There aren’t a lot of kids running around or talking when another student is talking or if the teacher is talking. Here it’s quiet. You raise your hand when you want to say something. We know when to talk and when not to talk. I’m glad I’m here. ”
