Harlem School of the Arts is a 37,000 square foot cultural arts center nestled in the heart of Harlem on St. Nicholas Avenue near 145th Street. The recently renovated facility boasts a range of beautifully-designed performance spaces, interior courtyard, cafe, dance studios, and rehearsal studios, all available for rent. HSA rental spaces are adaptable and customizable for a range of events including performances, cocktail receptions, fashion presentations, speaking engagements, corporate retreats, workshops, ensemble rehearsals, and more.

Named for HSA’s founder, Dorothy Maynor Hall is a premier event and gathering space, with features including a dramatic light-filled atrium, exquisite acoustics specially designed by acoustician John Storyk, state of the art lighting, a cutting-edge, angled glass curtain wall offering a transparent view inside, acoustic ceiling baffles, a retractable screen suitable for film screenings, as well as retractable curtains for customizable lighting scenarios. A popular add-on to the hall is the interior courtyard which augments events with an outdoor option. With its recent renovation, Dorothy Maynor Hall has transformed HSA into a dazzling cultural center unlike any other space in Harlem.

Dorothy Maynor Hall comes equipped with audio/visual capabilities designed for playing background music, announcements and presentations, and capturing the moment on video.

Recently updated with enhanced lighting, a decorative rock waterfall feature, and seasonal plantings, the interior courtyard is a popular outdoor gathering space during mild to warm months. With elements of nature, the courtyard features atmospheric lighting, a raised platform stage, and direct access to the cafe, enabling events to be easily catered. The courtyard rental can stand on its own, and is an easy add-on to Dorothy Maynor Hall.

REHEARSAL STUDIOS
Rehearsal studios offer everything from small rooms for individual study to large ensemble rooms for bands and theatrical rehearsals. Each rehearsal studio is equipped with a Steinway Piano, black choral chairs, and music stands, all key items needed for a rehearsal of any kind. HSA has four rehearsal studios available, the largest of which may also be adapted for small meetings.

The 800-square foot café is suitable for intimate meals, small meetings, and gatherings. Equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, and additional kitchen utilities, the light-filled Café is a popular add-on to rental of Dorothy Maynor Hall and the interior courtyard as it supports catering and hospitality needs. This space is also adaptable for art shows and opening receptions.

The all-purpose room is a xxx square foot blank slate adaptable for parties, meetings, wedding preparation, corporate retreats, and more. Located on the first floor adjacent to Dorothy Maynor Hall, this room has ample space for tables and chairs, party decorations, as well as a sink and food preparation space available for use. The all purpose room offers wall space that is perfect for an art show and is also utilized as a holding/preparation space for events held in Dorothy Maynor Hall.

This intimate black box theater is often rented by artists, production companies, theater companies, and nonprofit organizations, and offers a fully-equipped tech booth for sound and lighting, and two large dressing rooms. The space comfortably seats 120 audience members on plush black chairs in a raised seating arrangement. The 40’(w) x 20’(d) stage features a non-sprung wooden floor, traditionally used for theater and concert performances; black marley flooring is also available for dance performances.

What furniture is included in my rental?
We can place a soft hold on spaces for up to 72 hours. After this time, the hold may be released at the discretion of the HSA Events & Rentals Department.
My event has unique needs; can HSA accommodate?
Dorothy Maynor Hall includes a full sound and lighting system, as well as a projector with drop down screen and ceiling mounted camera which can be used for live streaming. Please refer to our tech spec sheet for further details.
