Get Ready RARE EARTH Elemental Music proudly presents the ultimate remastered edition of the seminal bluesy funk-rock album Get Ready, from the legendary Detroit band Rare Earth. Originally released on September 30, 1969, Get Ready is their second studio album and the first released through Motown Records. The album was first released on Rare Earth Records, a Motown sub-label created for this special release in an attempt to cater to white artists and promote them into the black market. The album’s highlight is the epic, 22-minute cover version of The Temptations’ “Get Ready,” where Gil Bridges’ sax and Pete Rivera’s powerful drums and vocals are the standouts. “Get Ready” first broke in Washington D.C. in the black market, spread across the country and eventually into the white market. It was a huge hit selling thousands of copies and remaining on the charts for almost 3 years. Other big hits from the band included in this essential release are the sensational album opener “Magic Key”, as well as the powerful version of “Tobacco Road.”

Fire OHIO PLAYERS This quintessential Elemental Music reissue presents the most acclaimed album of one of the funkiest bands in the world: Fire from the Ohio Players. Released in 1974, Fire was the sixth studio album of the band and the second released through the Mercury label. This album was their masterpiece –a crowning touch of the dynamic, very explosive bass-and-horn-heavy style that they had always been noted for. This LP topped both the Billboard Pop Albums chart and the Billboard R&B Albums chart (where it held for five weeks) in early 1975. “Fire”, the hit song and the opening track from the album is considered to be the band’s signature song along with “Love Rollercoaster.” It is currently used as the theme song to the FOX reality series Hell’s Kitchen.

The whole album is smooth, steamy, sensuous, and sublime (a lot like many of the group’s avant-garde album covers). From their airy ballads (“It’s All Over”, “Together”, and “I Want to Be Free”) to their most recognizable, powerfully addictive title track, and all the classic burners in between like “Running with the Devil” (which inspired Eddie Van Halen & Co.), this is one of the best progressive soul/funk albums ever released by a 7 piece superband, whose funky style and sound have influenced countless R&B artists and hip-hoppers even up to this present day. Track listing: 1. FIRE 4:36 2. TOGETHER 3:07 3. RUNNIN’ FROM THE DEVIL 4:49 4. I WANT TO BE FREE 6:54 5. SMOKE 6:01 6. IT’S ALL OVER 4:17 7. WHAT THE HELL 5:38 8. TOGETHER/FEELINGS 1:12
Together Brothers BARRY WHITE & THE LOVE UNLIMITED ORCHESTRA
RELEASE DATE 10TH JUNE 2016
This sensational Elemental Music release presents for the first time ever in this format, the exceptional and highly underrated soundtrack written, produced and arranged by Barry White for the 1974 American film directed by William A. Graham, Together Brothers. Released by 20th Century Records the same year, the soundtrack album includes arrangements by The Love Unlimited Orchestra as well as background vocals by The Love Unlimited, the female vocal trio lead by White’s wife Glodean James. This album was Barry White’s entry into the blaxploitation soundtrack genre. The record is filled with lots of tight little instrumental grooves, produced in the hard edged Love Unlimited Orchestra way – with funky drums at the bottom, snapping snare in the middle, and sharp sweeping strings over the top. Love Unlimited sing on a few tracks, but the cuts are mostly instrumentals with a very hard groove that would inspire a lot of hip-hoppers in the next years. Vocal titles as “Somebody’s Gonna Off the Man”, “People of Tomorrow Are the Children of Today,” and “Can’t Seem to Find Him” stand out over the instrumentals although tracks like “Alive and Well”, “Theme from Together Brothers”, “Do Drop In”, and “Here Comes The Man” give the album a consistent and superb listen.

Other People's Rooms MARK - ALMOND (Jon Mark & Johnny Almond) This sensational Elemental Music release presents the long unavailable and highly underrated masterpiece Other People’s Rooms by The Mark-Almond Band. The band was formed in 1971 by British musicians John Mark (vocals, guitar) and Johnny Almond (saxes, flute), who were both members of John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers during 1969-1970.
Label: Elemental Music File Under: Rock Catalogue No: 88508 Barcode: 8435395500897 Price: MID PRICE Format: 1 CD Packaging: digipack JON MARK - vocals, classical guitar, 12 string guitar JOHNNY ALMOND - tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, flutes JOHN TROPEA - electric guitar, classical guitar LEON PENDARVIS - Fender Rhodes, concert piano WILL LEE - bass guitar STEVE GADD - drums RALPH MacDONALD - percussion LARRY WILLIAMS - synthesizer JERRY HEY - flugelhorn
Other People’s Rooms climbed to #32 on Billboard’s album chart when it first appeared in 1978. Mark & Almond joined forces with top American session players, such as Steve Gadd (d), Will Lee (b), John Tropea (g), and Leon Pendarvis (key). Other People’s Rooms is one of the last opus of the duet, yet one of the best, thanks also to producer Tommy Li Puma, the underrated Californian studio wizard. A subtle nostalgia goes though most of the tunes, from a new version of the classic “The City” to “Vivaldi’s Song” of Michael Franks fame (a Li Puma connection). “You Look Just Like a Girl Again”, and the title song “Other People’s Rooms” are some of the finest representations of 1970’s jazz-rock and pop fusion. Track listing: 1. THE CITY (6:11) 2. GIRL ON TABLE 4 (5:04) 3. YOU LOOK JUST LIKE A GIRL AGAIN (5:08) 4. OTHER PEOPLES ROOMS (3:48) 5. LONELY PEOPLE (2:33) 6. JUST A FRIEND (4:15) 7. Wolf Valley EYOLF DALE Wolf Valley is the new album from Norwegian pianist and composer Eyolf Dale. Although this is his fifth album as a leader since he burst onto the Norwegian scene in 2008, it was with Daniel Herskedal, the innovative tuba player, that Eyolf developed an international profile. He played on Daniel’s Edition release Slow Eastbound Train (2015) and now with Wolf Valley Eyolf Dale has brought together eight of the finest musicians from the vibrant Norwegian jazz scene to create an album of subtle grooves, beautiful melodies and rhythmic interplay.

On Wolf Valley Eyolf perfectly blends musical colour, dynamics, melody and rhythm. Despite having an octet at his disposal, his compositions extend beyond the usual limitations of the eight players. He uses the palette of vibraphone, violin, saxophones and trumpet to create a vibrant, colourful and fresh perspective on the sound of the octet - the composer’s group par excellence - providing the range and colour of a big band with the dexterity and speed of thought of a quartet. Historical examples include the groups that Mingus, Miles and Gil Evans put together from the 1940s and 50s when they wrote the ground rules of modern jazz. The octet is the perfect instrument for Dale’s compositional skills demonstrating beyond doubt that this exciting pianist is ready to become a significant figure in European jazz. Track listing: 1. Los Guachos V GUILLERMO KLEIN For 20 years, Guillermo Klein has been creating some of the most singular and exciting music for his highly adept 11-piece ensemble, Los Guachos. His compositional style has been evolving over the years, though always utilizing elements of jazz, folkloric music of his native Argentina, rock and modern classical music. Klein’s musical voice has established a number of unique composing concepts. His new recording, Guachos V, heralds his use of a new method: symmetries. To highlight this work, Klein has created two suites, Suite Indiana and Suite Jazmin, that use familiar works of the jazz canon and his own material reworked using mirroring, inversions and retrogrades of harmonies and melodies to create new compositions. Klein celebrates this anniversary by doing what he does best, presenting new, challenging, but tremendously gripping and rhythmically attractive, music.
