20 (2LP) FANFARE CIOCARLIA “20” is a vinyl-only release that gathers together a selection of Fanfare Ciocarlia’s seminal recordings from the band's remarkable two decade career. This collection ranges from the band’s debut album Radio Pasçani onwards - recordings that have broken Balkan brass through to a huge international audience and ensured that Fanfare are Romania’s foremost musical export. The double album - beautifully packaged, pressed on 180g vinyl with a 20 page photo-booklet - draws heavily on material from their first five albums and demonstrates their myriad musical strengths. Across four themed sides , “20” offers a reflection of the many musical faces of Fanfare. ROOTS captures them as a village brass band. ORIENT gathers their most Eastern recordings. JAMS features their funkiest sides that make clubs jump. AMIGOS demonstrates Fanfare’s wide ranging collaborations, from backing Macedonia’s Gypsy Queen Esma Redzepova to rocking with Canadian guitarist Adrian Raso. (Garth Cartwright)

Skin Tight OHIO PLAYERS This quintessential Elemental Music reissue presents one of the most acclaimed albums by the funkiest band in the world: Skin Tight by the Ohio Players. It has been remastered and packaged in this special collector’s edition, which also includes a bonus track that was only issued as a single in 1975. The fifth studio album by the Dayton band (and the first for the Mercury label), Skin Tight was released in April 1974, and is considered one of the best albums of that year. This masterpiece signified a turning point in the group’s career towards a more jazz and disco orientation. This was the smoothest and funkiest album that the Players ever put out. The underlying star of this album was bassist Marshall Jones. The bass lines of Skin Tight were some of the best in R&B/Funk history. This was the closest that the Ohio Players came to putting out a genuine P-Funk album. The band produced and recorded the album in Chicago, with Barry Mraz as recording engineer, and Lee Hulko on the mastering duties. According to Billboard, Skin Tight took the top position on the Black Albums chart for six weeks, and missed the Top 10 on the Pop Albums chart by only one position.

Hot on the Tracks THE COMMODORES Elemental Music proudly announces the ultimate remastered edition of Hot on the Tracks by the Commodores, Motown’s most successful act of the 1970s. One of the Alabama band’s most acclaimed and emblematic LPs, this masterpiece was released in 1976. The group’s fourth studio album, it includes the Top Ten single “Just to Be Close to You”. This was the band’s first LP to top the R&B albums chart, where it stayed for six non-consecutive weeks, and peaked at number 12 on the pop albums chart. It was the last LP they recorded before becoming a major crossover act. From 1977 on, the Commodores were as big among pop and adult contemporary audiences as they were with R&B audiences. That isn’t to say that pop fans ignored them before 1977; “Just to Be Close to You,” reached number seven on Billboard’s pop singles chart as well as number one on its R&B singles chart.
Label: Elemental Music File Under: Soul Catalogue No: 88511 Barcode: 8435395500965 Price: MID PRICE Format: 1 CD Packaging: digipack
Nonetheless, this is an R&B record first and foremost, and the Commodores never sound like they’re going out of their way to be pop. R&B purists should have no problem with “Just to Be Close to You,” which is very much a soul ballad and doesn’t have the adult contemporary appeal of subsequent hits like “Three Times a Lady,” “Easy,” and “Still.” Nor should they have any problem with hardcore funk treasures such as “Fancy Dancer” (a number nine R&B hit), “Come Inside,” “Let’s Get Started,” and the quirky “Quick Draw.” For those who prefer the Commodores’ hardcore funk and soul over their crossover material, Hot on the Tracks is recommended without hesitation. Track listing: 1. LET’S GET STARTED (3:55) 2. GIRL, I THINK THE WORLD ABOUT YOU (4:32) 3. HIGH ON SUNSHINE (4:24) 4. JUST TO BE CLOSE TO YOU (6:21) 5. FANCY DANCER (4:24) 6. COME INSIDE (3:49) 7. THUMPIN’ MUSIC (3:24) 8. QUICK DRAW (4:18) 9. CAN’T LET YOU TEASE ME (3:12)

Nice Girls Don't Stay for Breakfast JULIE LONDON This quintessential Elemental Music reissue presents the long unavailable Julie London masterpiece Nice Girls Don’t Stay for Breakfast, issued by Liberty Records in 1967. It showcases the late Julie London at her breathiest best. Older fans remember her for her string of sexy Pop singles and albums while slightly younger listeners may remember London from her acting stint on the popular ‘70s medical drama Emergency. Either way, she left her mark on many generations and is still fondly remembered more than a decade after her death.
Label: Elemental Music File Under: Jazz Catalogue No: 88512 Barcode: 8435395500972 Price: MID PRICE Format: 1 CD Packaging: digipack
In this album, Julie sings some of the great ballads of the ‘20s and ‘30s with warmth, intimacy, and deep feeling, but not without tasteful restraint. Her delivery is not pop and not quite jazz. Put it on the borderline between the two and call hers the art of nuance. She takes attractive liberties with melodies and phrasing. Disposed to low-register sounds, she makes excellent use of glissandos. On Nice Girls Don’t Stay for Breakfast there are some small group jazz performances that are spectacular, particularly on “I Surrender Dear” and “I’ve Got a Crush on You,” which give ample proof Miss London’s underutilized talents as a jazz singer. Other highlights include “When I Grow Too Old to Dream,” “There Will Never Be Another You” and “You Made Me Love You”. She certainly made a statement with her softly sweet and sultry voice that has an air of timeless elegance. Track listing: 1. NICE GIRLS DON’T STAY FOR BREAKFAST (2:25) 2. WHEN I GROW TOO OLD TO DREAM (2:52) 3. I’VE GOT A CRUSH ON YOU (2:13) 4. EVERYTHING I HAVE IS YOURS (3:05) 5. YOU MADE ME LOVE YOU (2:18) 6. BABY, WON’T YOU PLEASE COME HOME (2:11) 7. I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT TIME IT WAS (2:50) 8. GIVE A LITTLE WHISTLE (3:06) 9. I SURRENDER, DEAR (3:40) 10. YOU GO TO MY HEAD (3:07) 11. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER YOU (3:16) 12. MICKEY MOUSE (2:08)

Brel DAVID LINX & BRUSSELS JAZZ ORCHESTRA On this album, which is a magnificent celebration, the flamboyant David Linx and the Brussels Jazz Orchestra happily reinterpret the work of the ‘Great Jacques’. On it, we can enjoy several Brels: the creator of a universal and timeless body of songs, of course, but also the songwriter who was able to delve into the very depths of the human soul, and the composer whose music swings and grooves thanks to one of the best jazz big bands on the planet.

"Jacques Brel has left us an immense songbook full of musical gems that jazz performers can approach like the standards in the Great American Songbook. Brussels Jazz Orchestra decided to devote an entire album to Brel’s music. Having worked with David Linx in two previous productions we knew he was the obvious choice for this one. David is a perfectionist and he doesn’t stand on the sideline: he gets involved in the process, he keeps a critical ear open, he expects to get the same from BJO as he gives to us. As a native Belgian who has lived and worked in Paris for more than fifteen years, David Linx is the perfect partner for BJO in fully bringing this music to life."
