Lucille Talks Back B.B. KING LIMITED EDITION CLASSIC LPs WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK 180 gram VINYL AUDIOPHILE PRESSING FIRST EVER VINYL REISSUE Elemental Music proudly presents the first 180 gram LP reissue of the 1975’s album Lucille Talks Back by B. B. King. Not to be confused with a CD compilation of the same name released in 1988 by MCA, this sensational album was long out of print till now. Lucille Talks Back contains what every real blues fan could expect from B. B. King: a superb group of backing musicians playing at the height of their powers, with the King of the Blues himself front and center, pinging out blue notes from his guitar “Lucille” and singing his heart out. There’s no standout song here, but all of the tracks are solid blues numbers. Recorded in Las Vegas in September 1975, the album was arranged and produced by B.B. himself with Hampton Reese and Eddie Rowe. As a historical footnote, this is one of the few LPs on which the King of the Blues employs a Cry Baby wah wah pedal to modulate the sound of his famous “Lucille”.

Keep On Pushing THE IMPRESSIONS LIMITED EDITION CLASSIC LPs WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK 180 gram VINYL AUDIOPHILE PRESSING Elemental Music proudly presents a 180 gram LP reissue of the most acclaimed album by Curtis Mayfield’s The Impressions: Keep on Pushing. Long out of print on vinyl, this newly remastered masterpiece is now available with its original artwork thanks to the joint efforts of Elemental Music and Universal Music Spain. Released in 1964, it was The Impressions’ most important album, reaching the Top 10 on both the Billboard Pop and R&B album charts, peaking at #8 and #4, respectively. It produced five Pop and R&B Top 40 hit singles, two of which (“Amen” and the title track), hit the Billboard pop Top 10.

Label: Elemental Music File Under: Soul Catalogue No: 700120 Barcode: 8435395501610 Price: FULL PRICE Format: 1 LP Curtis Mayfield – Lead vocals Samuel Gooden – Lead & backing vocals Fred Cash – Lead & backing vocals Orchestra arranged by Johnny Pate Produced by Curtis Mayfield

“Amen” is an African-American spiritual arranged and sung by Jester Hairston for the 1963 film Lilies of the Field, starring Sidney Poitier. Curtis Mayfield was inspired by both the film and the song, and decided to include the latter on this album. On “Keep on Pushing”, Mayfield introduced a political element, for this Top 10 hit was an anthem of the burgeoning civil-rights movement (the 1964 Civil Rights Act was signed several weeks after its release). Keep on Pushing cemented his blend of gospel optimism with a relentless spirit of self-improvement. Track listing: SIDE ONE 1. KEEP ON PUSHING 2:35 2. I’VE BEEN TRYING 2:49 3. Blues On Top Of Blues B.B. KING LIMITED EDITION CLASSIC LPs WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK 180 gram VINYL AUDIOPHILE PRESSING This Elemental Music release presents a newly remastered 180 gram reissue of one of the lesser-known albums by the King of the Blues: Blues on Top of Blues. This masterpiece doesn't contain better known stuff, but is nevertheless a solid late ‘60s set. Featuring brassy arrangements by Johnny Pate (who also worked with many prominent Chicago soul acts during the ‘60s, such as Curtis Mayfield and Bobby Bland), it presents King’s sound at its best. Among the gems here are “Paying the Cost to Be the Boss”, “Heartbreaker”, and “Raining in My Heart”.

Indianola Mississippi Seeds B.B. KING LIMITED EDITION CLASSIC LPs WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK 180 gram VINYL AUDIOPHILE PRESSING This Elemental Music release presents a newly remastered 180 gram reissue of one of B. B. King’s most critically acclaimed albums: Indianola Mississippi Seeds. Mostly recorded at The Record Plant, Los Angeles, California, between May and June 1970, this masterpiece was released in October 1970 on ABC Records (his first LP on the mother label after several releases on its blues sub-label, Bluesway Records). The album appeared on several of Billboard’s album charts in 1970, reaching number 26 on the Pop album chart, number 7 on the Jazz album chart, and 8 on Billboard’s listing for “Black Albums.” It also generated several hit singles, “Chains and Things”, King’s own “Ask Me No Questions” and Leon Russell’s “Hummingbird”.

Label: Elemental Music File Under: Blues Catalogue No: 700122 Barcode: 8435395501412 Price: FULL PRICE Format: 1 LP

Producer Bill Szymczyk decided to follow up on the success of the 1969 hit “The Thrill Is Gone” (King’s only top 20 hit) by matching the bluesman with an all-star group including up and coming artists such as Carole King, Joe Walsh and Leon Russell. The female King plays piano throughout, giving “You’re Still My Woman” an Aretha Franklin flavor, whereas “Until I’m Dead and Cold” is infused with a sanctified air thanks to her playing and the inclusion of a brassy horn section. No slouch on the eighty-eights himself, Russell (along with a then unknown Joe Walsh) provides funky accompaniment on “Ask Me No Questions” and the instrumental “King’s Special.” The blues legend himself lays Lucille aside long enough to give himself solo piano accompaniment on the minute and a half “Nobody Love Me But My Mother.” Leon Russell’s biggest contribution to the album is on his oft-recorded “Hummingbird”. The album’s title is a tribute to King’s upbringing near Indianola, Mississippi, and the album package — which was itself awarded with a Grammy — includes what appears to be a copy of B. B. King’s birth certificate, with official registration in Indianola. This sensational reissue reproduces the original gatefold artwork. “I know the critics always mention Live & Well or Live at the Regal”, stated B. B. King, “but I think that Indianola Mississippi Seeds was the best album that I’ve done artistically.”. Track listing: SIDE ONE 1. NOBODY LOVES ME BUT MY MOTHER 1:26 / 2. YOU’RE STILL MY WOMAN 6:06 / 3. ASK ME NO QUESTIONS 3:08 / 4. UNTIL I’M DEAD AND COLD 4:45 / 5. KING’S SPECIAL 5:13 SIDE TWO 1. AIN’T GONNA WORRY MY LIFE ANYMORE 5:18 / 2. CHAINS AND THINGS 4:53 / 3. GO UNDERGROUND 4:02 / 4. HUMMINGBIRD 4:35

Live & Well B.B. KING LIMITED EDITION CLASSIC LPs WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK 180 gram VINYL AUDIOPHILE PRESSING Elemental Music presents a newly remastered 180 gram LP reissue of B.B. King’s Live & Well album, the last he released on the Bluesway label. After working with jazz producer Bob Thiele in the 1968 LP Lucille, the King of the Blues followed it with Live & Well, an interesting combination of live and studio tracks. Produced by then 26-year old Bill Szymczyk, who later became one of rock music’s most successful and prolific producers, the album consists of five live tracks (Side One) recorded at New York’s Village Gate, and five studio tracks (Side Two) recorded at The Hit Factory studios.

Label: Elemental Music File Under: Blues Catalogue No: 700123 Barcode: 8435395501429 Price: FULL PRICE Format: 1 LP

The live side includes classic performances such as “Don’t Answer the Door”), old favorites like “Sweet Little Angel”, and newer material (“Just a Little Love”). The “well” session has a more funky soul vibe. King grooves convincingly on the chugging “I Want You So Bad” and “Let’s Get Down to Business”. The funky “That’s Why I Sing the Blues” closes the album. Track listing: SIDE ONE LIVE AT THE VILLAGE GATE 1. DON’T ANSWER THE DOOR 6:13 2. JUST A LITTLE LOVE 5:16 3. MY MOOD 2:42 4. SWEET LITTLE ANGEL 5:03 5. PLEASE ACCEPT MY LOVE 3:14 SIDE TWO WELL AT THE HIT FACTORY 1. I WANT YOU SO BAD 4:15 2. FRIENDS 5:37 3. GET OFF MY BACK, WOMAN 3:16 4. LET’S GET DOWN TO BUSINESS 3:36 5. A Sea of Faces ARCHIE SHEPP A NEW SERIES OF MID PRICE REISSUES OF CLASSIC RECORDINGS FROM THE BLACK SAINT LABEL - WITH REMASTERED AUDIO AND NEW DIGISLEEVE PACKAGING, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL FULL COLOUR BOOKLET

When A Sea of Faces was originally released in 1975 on Black Saint, it was met with scepticism by some critics who saw the album as conservative in comparison with some the Archie Shepp's mid-sixties recordings on Impulse! But the tenor saxophonist has always been a man of many faces and, staying true to the revolutionary spirit of jazz, he has never allowed himself to become locked into any one genre. One need only listen to the heavy and obsessive playing on "Hipnosis" or Bunny Foy's amazing vocals on "Song For Mozambique" to realize that this is Shepp at the height of his creative prowess. Charles Greenlee's trombone and Cameron Brown's bass playing are also essential ingredients to the brew. Tracks: "Hipnosis", "Song for Mozambique", "I Know 'Bout the Life" and "Lookin' for Someone to Love".

Capricorn Rising DON PULLEN A NEW SERIES OF MID PRICE REISSUES OF CLASSIC RECORDINGS FROM THE BLACK SAINT LABEL - WITH REMASTERED AUDIO AND NEW DIGISLEEVE PACKAGING, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL FULL COLOUR BOOKLET

A richly dynamic set from pianist Don Pullen, and one of his farthest-out sessions from the mid 70s – especially considering he had just finished a tenure as Mingus' piano player not long before this set was recorded! The "outness" of the date is probably due in part to reedman Sam Rivers, who brings a great deal of energy to the set, and wrote half of the numbers the group performs (the other half are from Pullen) – and the players work here in a quartet that features bassist Alex Blake and drummer Bobby Battles. The set's got a lot of the freewheeling energy that Rivers was hitting in the 70s – and titles include "Capricorn Rising", "Fall Out", "Joycie Girl". and "Break Out". (Dusty Groove)

Old and New Dreams Don CHERRY / Dewey REDMAN / Charlie HADEN / Ed BLACKWELL A NEW SERIES OF MID PRICE REISSUES OF CLASSIC RECORDINGS FROM THE BLACK SAINT LABEL - WITH REMASTERED AUDIO AND NEW DIGISLEEVE PACKAGING, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL FULL COLOUR BOOKLET

A virtual reincarnation of Ornette Coleman’s first ensembles, the cooperative Old and New Dreams brought together trumpeter Don Cherry, tenor saxophonist Dewey Redman, bassist Charlie Haden, and drummer Ed Blackwell to reinterpret the master’s early repertoire. By the time their first album was released in 1978, ECM’s Old and New Dreams, all four musicians were leaders with their own projects; this perhaps explains the intermittent nature of their ensuing collaboration. The quality of the group’s recordings was uniformly high. With the deaths of Cherry and Blackwell in the ’90s, further collaborations of course became impossible. However, the band’s limited yet superb output is an important complement to the work they did under Coleman’s leadership in the late ’50s and early ’60s. (AllMusic.com)

Troubles STEVE LACY A NEW SERIES OF MID PRICE REISSUES OF CLASSIC RECORDINGS FROM THE BLACK SAINT LABEL - WITH REMASTERED AUDIO AND NEW DIGISLEEVE PACKAGING, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL FULL COLOUR BOOKLET

"This fairly obscure effort from the Steve Lacy Quintet of 1979 features the great soprano saxophonist in typically exploratory yet thoughtful form on five originals. His interplay with the underrated altoist Steve Potts (who doubles on soprano) is the main reason to acquire the set, while violinist/vocalist Irene Aebi's contributions are typically eccentric and an acquired taste. Bassist Kent Carter and drummer Oliver Johnson are stimulating throughout, particularly in support of the vocal choir on the precious serious/hilarious title track and the more stern "No Baby." Home DAVID MURRAY OCTET A NEW SERIES OF MID PRICE REISSUES OF CLASSIC RECORDINGS FROM THE BLACK SAINT LABEL - WITH REMASTERED AUDIO AND NEW DIGISLEEVE PACKAGING, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL FULL COLOUR BOOKLET

Although David Murray has recorded in many different settings throughout his busy career, his octet has always been perfect for his talents. More disciplined than his big band, yet containing more tone colors than his smaller combos, the octet allowed Murray to be exploratory yet occasionally look backwards. This set, his second with the band, has quite an all-star lineup: Murray on tenor and bass clarinet, altoist Henry Threadgill, trumpeter Olu Dara, cornetist Butch Morris, trombonist George Lewis, pianist Anthony Davis, bassist Wilber Morris and drummer Steve McCall. All of the brilliant players have their opportunities to make strong contributions to Murray's five originals (best known of which is "3-D Family"), and the leader's writing is consistently colorful and unpredictable. Recommended. (Allmusicguide)

Versatile avant-garde pianist Misha Mengelberg gathered together a noteworthy group (comprised of trombonist Roswell Rudd, soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy, bassist Kent Carter, and drummer Han Bennink) to play three songs apiece by Nichols and Thelonious Monk. The musicians very much understood the composers' purposes, and on such numbers as "Monk's Mood," "Friday the 13th," "Blue Chopsticks," and "2300 Skiddoo" (the latter two had never been recorded with a group larger than a trio before), they come up with definitive treatments. Highly recommended." (source: All Music.com, S. Yanow)

Symphonically MIKE MELILLO & CHET BAKER A NEW SERIES OF MID PRICE REISSUES OF CLASSIC RECORDINGS FROM THE SOUL NOTE LABEL - WITH REMASTERED AUDIO AND NEW DIGISLEEVE PACKAGING, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL FULL COLOUR BOOKLET

Label: Soul Note File Under: Jazz Catalogue No: SNGG004-2 Barcode: 8052405142474 Price: MID PRICE Format: 1 CD Packaging: digipack Mike Melillo - piano Chet Baker - trumpet Giampaolo Ascolese - drums Massimo Moriconi - double bass + orchestra

Chet Baker is accompanied by Mike Melillo's quartet and a full orchestra in this 1985 concert. Melillo wrote new arrangements of several standards during a six-week period prior to the performances, keeping them in the original key since Baker neither read music nor made a habit of showing up for rehearsals; in fact, the first time Baker played with the orchestra was opening night. The Orchestra Filamonica Marchigiana are utilized deftly by Melillo to provide background for Baker's mostly strong trumpet solos, especially in the extended treatments of "Laura" and "Yesterdays." Melillo also contributes an original, "This Thing by Starlight" (a reworking of the chord changes to Cole Porter's "What Is This Thing Called Love"), and the two musicians are featured as a duo in an impromptu encore of "My Foolish Heart," featuring Baker's effective though fragile vocals. Although this CD isn't a good starting point for someone not very familiar with Chet Baker's music, it still ranks as one of the better efforts among the dozens of recordings made during the trumpeter's final years. ~ Ken Dryden Track listing: 1. Laura 12:52 2. This Thing by Starlight 12:02 3. Yesterdays 8:49 4. My Foolish Heart 8:34 5. Dancing in the Dark 5:03

(The Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD) "Memoirs serves as a tidy summation of Paul Bley's gifts as an individual and musical conversationalist. It helps that he converses with old friends. Paul Motian is, roughly, to the drums what Bley is to the piano, capable of sculpting icy, paradoxical emotions; on moment's notice, they can venture "out" where tonal centers and rhythmic pulses are not invited. And there, always, is the fundamental Charlie Haden, who demonstrates how a few well-placed notes and well-observed silences can lock a group texture into place." (AllMusic.com, J. Woodard)

Silence CHARLIE HADEN A NEW SERIES OF MID PRICE REISSUES OF CLASSIC RECORDINGS FROM THE SOUL NOTE LABEL - WITH REMASTERED AUDIO AND NEW DIGISLEEVE PACKAGING, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL FULL COLOUR BOOKLET "SILENCE features bassist Charlie Haden joined by Chet Baker, drummer Billy Higgins, and pianist Enrico Pieranunzi. It was recorded just six months before Baker's death. His sad lyricism is a stirring presence throughout the half-dozen tunes. Haden's "Silence" is like a mournful prayer with Baker's trumpet at the fore. Elsewhere, Baker exhibits full commitment, even on pieces that had been in his repertoire for 35 years at that point ("My Funny Valentine" and "Round About Midnight"). Italian pianist Pieranunzi plays in a style that embraces jazz, but draws from classical music (not unlike Bill Evans). Higgins has worked with Haden off and on since their time together with Ornette Coleman in the '50s. He brings a modernist's sensibility to his playing, along with a light and elegant touch that perfectly suits the quiet nature of this set. All in all, this is a masterful union, one that's perfectly and cleanly documented." (Allmusicguide)
