Second Album ROY BUCHANAN LIMITED EDITION CLASSIC LPs WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK 180 gram VINYL – AUDIOPHILE PRESSING This Elemental Music release presents the second LP for the Polydor label by Arkansas-born Telecaster virtuoso Roy Buchanan, considered one of the most soulful masters of the electric guitar. Buchanan pioneered the use of controlled harmonics as played by Jeff Beck, Robbie Robertson and ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons. Once described as “The Best Unknown Guitarist in the World”, he was even feted by The Rolling Stones as a possible replacement for Brian Jones. Second Album was his best selling studio LP and is still pure class after 43 years. It plays to Buchanan’s strengths: with only 3 vocal songs, there’s plenty of room for Roy to steal the show with his swashbuckling fretwork.

What That Is! SCREAMIN' JAY HAWKINS LIMITED EDITION CLASSIC LPs WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK 180 gram VINYL – AUDIOPHILE PRESSING Elemental Music proudly presents an LP reissue of the second album by the great singer Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, What That Is! It was originally released on the Philips label in 1969, almost ten years after he cut most of his classics, such as the unforgettable “I Put a Spell on You”. Back in the day, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins put the show in show business. His voodoo-inspired stage act included fireworks, flash powder, snakes, shrunken heads, and his faithful companion, a skull named Henry. To start his concerts, he was carried on in a coffin, from which he leaped, as if risen from the dead, often sending a good portion of his audience scampering for the exits.

Label: Elemental Music File Under: Blues Catalogue No: 700109 Barcode: 8435395501344 Price: FULL PRICE Format: 1 LP

Caught live in 1969 at the Club Amigo in North Hollywood (but edited later in the studio), What That Is? features Hawkins at his raw, unhinged best. A rare and sought after LP, it is reissued here in its original form. The backing band is also terrific, with the great Earl Palmer on drums for most of the cuts, guitarist Herb Ellis as guest on a few songs (among them “Feast of the Mau Mau”), Lyle Ritz on bass, Plas Johnson on sax, and arrangements by Shorty Rogers. Track listing: Side A: 1. What That Is 2:12 2. Feast of the Mau Mau 3:25 3. Do You Really Love Me? 2:10 4. Stone Crazy 2:07 5. I Love You 4:17 6. Constipation Blues 4:30 Side B: 1. I’m Lonely 2:28 2. Texas Cannonball FREDDIE KING LIMITED EDITION CLASSIC LPs WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK 180 gram VINYL – AUDIOPHILE PRESSING Elemental Music presents a new 180-gram LP reissue of legendary guitarist Freddie King’s second album for Shelter Records, Texas Cannonball, which followed his also Getting Ready (1971). Released in 1972, Texas Cannonball was one of the highlights of King’s career, which continued its progression towards a new style, introducing its explosive blues sound to wider audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. Leon Russell’s Shelter Records was without a doubt the perfect springboard for Freddie’s hard driving style of blues. This prolific collaboration definitely put Freddie into the mainstream of the blues/rock explosion.

Sex Machine Today JAMES BROWN LIMITED EDITION CLASSIC LPs WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK 180 gram VINYL – AUDIOPHILE PRESSING Elemental Music presents a 180 gram LP reissue of Sex Machine Today, a 1975 album released by the Godfather of Soul on the Polydor label. It is considered one of his best works of that decade, as it takes the core James Brown sound of the “Sex Machine” generation, and serves it up with a tighter mid 70’s funkier flavor. Fred Wesley is still very firmly at the helm of the band — and there’s a power here that’s equal to the later JB’s work on the Breakin’ Bread album. The grooves are nicely free of the “fast funk” syndrome that would creep into James’ work a few years later. The LP includes a 12-minute remake of “Sex Machine” that’s worth the price on the album alone. Without a doubt, a great LP with plenty of funkiness to go around.

Track listing: SIDE A 1. SEX MACHINE PART I AND PART II…12:05 2. I FEEL GOOD…3:05 3. PROBLEMS…2:49 SIDE 2 1. DEAD ON IT…13:10 2. GET UP OFF OF ME…3:59 3. DEEP IN IT…7:31

Soul On Top JAMES BROWN LIMITED EDITION CLASSIC LPs WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK 180 gram VINYL – AUDIOPHILE PRESSING Elemental Music proudly presents a 180-gram LP gatefold reissue of Soul on Top, which finds the Godfather of Soul making an intriguing detour into jazz-minded big band territory. Recorded in 1969 and released by King Records, Soul on Top combines Brown with the Basie influenced orchestra of jazz drummer Louie Bellson, conducted by the genius of Oliver Nelson, who was also in charge of the arrangements. Stylistically, the results are somewhere between soul-funk and the funkier side of big band jazz. This masterpiece combines soul, funk, and jazz, and finds James Brown revisiting some major hits, such as “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag” and “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World”, in addition to embracing standard songs like “September Song,” “That’s My Desire,” and some more typically associated with jazz and traditional pop. Although not among the Godfather’s better-known efforts, this fine album is happily recommended to anyone who holds R&B and jazz in equally high regard.

It was his tenth studio release on Polydor, coming after Sex Machine Today and preceding Hot. While the album is funky enough, a third part of the LP is taken up by new versions of two old standards, “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag” and “Kansas City”. The album is also known for being the last James Brown record to feature his longtime partner Fred Wesley. It is one of James Brown’s last great funky records!

Gettin’ Down to It JAMES BROWN LIMITED EDITION CLASSIC LPs WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK 180 gram VINYL – AUDIOPHILE PRESSING Elemental Music presents a gatefold 180 gram LP reissue of Getting’ Down to It, one of the most personal albums by the Godfather of Soul, originally released in May 1969 by King Records. This masterpiece is considered by many as one of the diamonds in James Brown’s discography. It consists of standards sung in the jazz ballad style of Frank Sinatra, whom Brown greatly admired. In addition, two of Brown’s own compositions are included, “Cold Sweat” and an instrumental version of “There Was a Time”, both reinterpreted in the same style. Brown’s taste for jazz culminated in this sensational album, on which he is backed by the Dee Felice Trio. The results are swingin’ – it’s a brand new bag!

After the Rain MUDDY WATERS LIMITED EDITION CLASSIC LPs WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK 180 gram VINYL – AUDIOPHILE PRESSING This Elemental Music release presents After the Rain, Muddy Waters’ sixth studio album and a follow-up to the previous Electric Mud. Both albums feature the talented Otis Spann on piano and Phil Upchurch on guitar. However, unlike Electric Mud, After the Rain contains mostly original compositions by Waters, and the songs, while still distorted, are less overtly psychedelic. Released in May 1969 by Cadet Concept Records (Chess sub-label for experimental rock and more adventurous music) this masterpiece is full of raw Chicago blues, with psychedelic, fuzzy guitars and groovy bass lines, combined with the gruff, heartfelt tones of Muddy Waters.

Lucille B.B. KING LIMITED EDITION CLASSIC LPs WITH ORIGINAL ARTWORK 180 gram VINYL – AUDIOPHILE PRESSING

Label: Elemental Music File Under: Blues Catalogue No: 700116 Barcode: 8435395501481 Price: FULL PRICE Format: 1 LP

Elemental Music proudly presents a 180-gram gatefold LP reissue of a great title from B.B. King’s extensive discography: Lucille, released by BluesWay Records (ABC Records sub label) in 1968, and the only one of B.B. King’s LPs produced by Bob Thiele. In December 1967, King entered the studio with the noted jazz producer to record what eventually became one of his best albums of that decade. Named after King’s guitar, this record finds B.B. adding some fresh ingredients to his already potent stew of traditional blues. With its biting brass and female back-up singers, “You Move Me So” is a funky, spiritual workout, whereas “I Need Your Love” finds the leader combining Sam Cooke-flavored vocalizing with a dash of rambling country-flavored piano. The title track is the most impressive and spontaneous number on this record, despite its near-ten-minute length. Done in a talking blues style, “Lucille” started out with King telling the story of his guitar while noodling around on her during a break. Correctly sensing that blues gold was being freshly served up, an excited Thiele had the engineer flip on the record button, preserving for posterity a conversation between a man and his guitar. Track listing: SIDE A 1. LUCILLE 10:15 2. YOU MOVE ME SO 2:03 3. COUNTRY GIRL 4:24 4. NO MONEY NO LUCK 3:49 SIDE B 1. I NEED YOUR LOVE 2:22 2. RAININ’ ALL THE TIME 2:56 3. I’M WITH YOU 2:31 4. This Elemental Music 180-gram LP reissue presents an album which is considered B.B. King’s definitive live recording: the essential Blues Is King, originally released in 1968 by the BluesWay label (ABC Records’ blues division imprint). Blues Is King was recorded at the International Club of Chicago on November 5, 1966. King and a group of session heavyweights unleash a set of standards and originals upon an eager audience. King is flanked by several revered blues sidemen, including Sonny Freeman on drums, Kenneth Sands on trumpet, and Louis Satterfield on bass, to name just a few. But the star of Blues Is King is the leader, frequently bantering with the club audience, and spinning musical stories of heartache and rage with his impassioned vocal roar and precision blues guitar zeal. An unequivocal must-have for any blues fanatic, and a perfect audio depiction of King’s invigorating live act. Track listing: SIDE A 1. INTRODUCTION 0:21 2. WAITIN’ ON YOU 2:30 3. B.B. Label: Elemental Music File Under: Blues Catalogue No: 700119 Barcode: 8435395501511 Price: FULL PRICE Format: 1 LP Buddy Guy - acoustic guitar and vocals Junior Wells - harmonica and vocals Junior Mance - piano

Elemental Music presents a 180 gram LP reissue of a one-of-a-kind album featuring one of Chicago blues’ most dynamic duos, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, together with the talented pianist Junior Mance: the sensational Buddy and the Juniors. Originally issued in 1970 by Blue Thumb Records and deservedly back in print, Buddy and the Juniors came about when then-fledgling producer Michael Cuscuna tried to rustle up some dough to finish a Guy project for Vanguard (the label refused to pay for the star’s plane ticket to a mixing session) by booking a fast cheap date with the two Juniors. The result was a relaxed down-home detour – acoustic and improvised – recorded in December 18, 1969. Highlights of this essential album are the immortal “Hoochie Coochie Man”, “Five Long Years”, “Rock Me Mama”, “Ain’t No Need” and “Buddy’s Blues”. Track listing: Side A 1. The Unknown JOHN ESCREET Pianist John Escreet left New York for a four-date tour in Europe in February of 2016 with a bit of trepidation. It was with this sense of nervousness that Escreet arrived and met up with his long standing trio of bassist John Hébert and drummer Tyshawn Sorey along with their illustrious guest, saxophone and improvisational music legend Evan Parker. The six years that Escreet has spent playing with Hébert and Sorey have made their unit a highly functioning organism, their musical and individual personalities intertwined in close friendship. The addition of the amiable and jocular Parker did not add any strain. The time spent with this progenitor of free music added to the collective’s drive and creativity. The ensemble’s rapport can be heard on The Unknown, Escreet’s new live album (his first) that compiles two recordings made on the last two nights of the tour at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam and Lantaren Venster in Rotterdam. These two professionally recorded sets showcase the ensemble in a natural performing environment without a script, or any intention of being released, producing music that is honest and deep.

Black and Blue LOU RAWLS Lou Rawls’ magnificent second album, Black and Blue (Capitol Records ST 1824) in its entirety. It showcases the singer performing a collection of well-known standards backed with dynamic arrangements by Onzy Matthews. Fifteen pop songs recorded by Rawls between 1959 and 1962, originally issued on singles, have been added here as a bonus. “Black and Blue was Lou Rawls' third record for Capitol, cut in 1962. The powers that be at the label made the decision to send Rawls into the studio with a swinging big band under the direction of Onzy Matthews and featuring some real heavyweights like saxophonists Curtis Amy, Teddy Edwards, and Sonny Criss; organist Groove Holmes; and bassist Curtis Counce. The choice didn't pan out commercially, but artistically it is a triumph. The band is perfect, the arrangements are tight and interesting, and Rawls sounds completely in his element”. **** All Music Guide (Tim Sendra)

Stormy Monday LOU RAWLS with LES McCANN This release presents Stormy Monday (Capitol ST-1714); the only collaborative album recorded by the legendary singer Lou Rawls with the superb trio of pianist Les McCann. Taped during two sessions in February 1962, it was Rawls’ first album issued under his own name, and features a number of blues and jazz standards chosen by the singer. Les McCann was also a gifted vocalist, as proven by the LP Les McCann Sings (Pacific Jazz ST-31), which has been added here as a bonus in its entirety, giving us the chance to compare both Rawls and McCann’s different approaches to vocals. “Lou Rawls has had a long and commercially successful career mostly singing soul, R&B, and pop music. Originally a gospel singer, Rawls' first album as a leader features him performing soulful standards backed by the Les McCann Trio. Pianist McCann gets a generous amount of solo space. This is still Rawls' definitive recording in the jazz idiom, cut before he went on to more lucrative areas.” ****1/2 All Music Guide (Scott Yanow)

Roll Over Beethoven The Complete 'Up to Jail' Recordings 1954-61

CHUCK BERRY This exhaustive set comprises the monumental output that Rock'n'Roll pioneer Chuck Berry recorded for Chess in his first smash hit period, beginning with the million-selling first single "Maybellene" and including all the tracks which made Berry an iconic superstar. The detailed booklet recounts the story of the period, up to Berry's imprisonment on a charge of living off immoral earnings and corruption of a minor, an episode that almost ruined him until his British Invasion-inspired comeback in the mid-Sixties. The 100 tracks herein are a vital canon of music history, massively influential and oft-covered (by, most famously, Elvis, The Beatles, the Stones and Hendrix but also by artists from Neil Sedaka to the New York Dolls), elegantly presented in a 10-panel foldout digipack with original artwork and 60-page Eng/Fr booklet.
