Verbs - which tense? A verb is a doing or being word. Verbs change with different tenses. • The past tense describes something that has already happened. • The present tense is what is happening now. • The future tense refers to what will happen in the future. • The present perfect tense describes something that began in the past but was completed in the present (using the present tense of the verb ‘have’). Adverbs Adverbs describe a verb. Adverbs tell us how, when or where something happens or is done. Example: James quickly ate his tea. Adverbs often end with the suffix ly. Adverbs that don’t end in ly include many when or where adverbs. Examples: He sometimes walked home alone. They ate inside because it was raining.

I went bravely to the front of the stage and helped him mysteriously produce a floppy-eared, soft, white rabbit. Everyone loved the trick and clapped enthusiastically at the end.
