To celebrate the Peabodys 150th anniversary, the housing assoication launched an international competition to design 150 homes on a former hospital site in the east end of london. The design takes the theme 'room to grow' - developing a series of typologies based around flexibility, adaptability and strategies for providing a bit of extra space.
Claire Harper and James Perry graduated from Newcastle university in 2008. The two recent graduates won first place against a number of established young practices to win first prize - £10000. Claire Harper is currently a research student at the University of Westminster, writing a PhD on the implications of higher urban densities for housing design. James Perry works as an architectural assistant. He is a qualified planner and is currently working towards his Part III qualification.
