Narrative Project This project slide show contains all of the development that I explore in order to express Levitation.
Development 1
Development 1-
Before
After
Franck Bohbot’s photos are always in black and white. If not they are in very pale unsaturated colours which make the images look slightly airy and serious. However when looking at the reactions on the models faces the viewer can see that the photo is not that serious especially when they notice that each person is floating.
Development 1-
Before cut out
After cut out
Finished
This is an example of the process that I will follow when figures are in colour and after in black and white and the middle stage where the figure is being cut out.
Development 1
My first development piece includes a series of photos which tell a story based on someone floating. This is the first part of the story where the figure is standing near the post. I personally think that this image has too much of a background which makes the figure in the image a little lost. I think that by cropping out some of the image that it will improve the piece.
Development 1
Improvements: I have now cropped out some of the image and I think its more focused on the figure at hand. I think that the image doesn’t relate much to the artist. However I am making this small series of images to show the process of levitation. My next image should relate more to the artist style.
Development 1
This is the second half of the image. At first it just looks like the figure has moved down the street. However notice that the figure is higher up the pole. I chose this image to make it clear that the person is actually floating. Usually the artist style make floating a lot more normal and natural. However I have manipulated this idea for this piece alone to show the story behind someone’s first levitation. The second image shows the figure going higher up which is the third part.
Development 1
This is the image at the end of the mini story where the person floating has lost her levitation.
Development 1
This is the whole story in one section. Improvements: I should consider having the images apart as this fits to the artist style a lot more rather than the images being bunched together.
Development 1
Improvements: This is what each image looks like separated. I will also upload them each on their own rather than each image being on their own. To Improve: add in shadows to make the figure look like she is floating.

Development 2
This is the final image to second development. As these are just small pieces and experiments getting ready for the end products I feel that this piece isn’t working very well on a whole. After coming back to the image after I while I understand that there is a lot of problems with the proportion and the background imagery. One thing I do favour is how there is a lot of sky which makes the image a lot more lighter just like the artist. Therefore to improve this image I will sort out the size of the background and get rid of the pole on the left along with big ben an I will also get rid of the sign on the right. I will also sort out the proportion of the figure.
Development 2
Improvements: In this image I have taken out the pole on the left and the sign on the right. I have also made the background bigger in terms of height so the height of the buildings have changed . I have played around with the brightness and contrast to lighten the image a little more. With the figure I have re sized her, also played around with the brightness and contrast and moved her higher. I think that before she didn’t look like she was floating much. Every time I moved her a little further up it just looked like another position on the grass. Therefore I moved her so that the top half of her boots and head are above the railing behind her making her looking like she is floating in the air. I think by adding a shadow here I can make her look like she is floating even more, making it clear that she is levitating.
Development 2
Using the burn tool in Photoshop I have added in a shadow to the image to make the figure look like she is floating.
Development 3
Development 3
Front
Back
These are examples of CD covers that I can refer to when I am creating my own. I notice that they are mostly simple and feature the start or something related to the album at the front of the CD cover. And at the back of the CD cover it is again very simple and clean, there isn’t a lot going on.
Development 3
I have taken this image when I went in to London and have decided to use on the front of my CD cover. I have taken this image and reduced the saturation for it to make it fit to the artist style a lot more. I will now add in the figure.
Development 3
I have now added in the figure to the front of the CD cover. I will proceed by adding on text and other features.
Development 3
I have now added in the text and a parental advisory sticker which are aspects that a CD cover has. I decided to make the word unordinary yellow as in the background the cone and the map stand are also yellow. This makes the CD cover stand out a little more. The figure is floating like the artist style. I will now proceed on to adding the back of the cover to complete the piece.
Development 3
This is the back and the front covers of the CD. Due to the artist style I think that there are a lot of questions that this CD cover could bring for the Narrative theme. For example, Why is the figure floating? Who is the girl looking at? Why does she look so serious? Improvements: I think that the front cover works well however the back cover looks too far apart. Also the colours yellow and orange don’t go as well as they should therefor I should change the layout of the back cover and chose one colour only. I will also add a shadow underneath the figure to make it clear that she is floating.
Development 3
Changes made: I have taken away the orange and left the yellow/green colour in. I think that by doing this the back image looks much more balanced and not too busy. I have put the writing in the centre and then rearranged the writing by altering some of the title names and the order so that the way its presented is in a small subtle pattern. I have looked closely at some of the back CD covers and have filled in a dummy text. I have also changed the font and taken away any italics as I think that this makes the writing look clear, this also suits the design face. I have also added a shadow underneath the figure to make it look like she is floating.
Development 4
Development 4 Here are some examples of movie posters that I have found to help me make my versions. In the posters at the bottom the print is one of the main aspects of the poster. I should include - Star actor/ actress - Who its produced by - Who its presented by - Other stars in the film - Where the film is releasing - The date of the film release
Development 4 Brief: To make a movie poster for the film ‘The Conjuring’. The Conjuring is about a secret box which is forbidden to be open by anyone. However one day the box is opened and all of its secrets are unveiled endangering anyone its in path.
I took this image above and have edited it in Photoshop to change its appearance. I have done this by using the hue and saturation option. I should now continue to create the rest of the aspects such as the text at the bottom and the logos. I will also add in the figure which will be the focal point for the poster.

Focal Point added
Improvements made: I have added in the text and the logos at the bottom. On the right is the final finished movie poster. I have adapted the poster to the style of my chosen artist by keeping the background clear and I have also kept it within the theme with the colours that the artist uses. The main figure is floating just like the figures in the artists work does. Improvements: I think that the girl in the middle doesn’t look as if she is floating, I could consider playing around with shadows to enhance the levitation.

Improvements made: I have added in the shadow and I think that this makes the figure look like she is floating. The shadow shows that she is not on the ground and also adds a nice affect to the overall piece. I have also made the text in the image a lot more smaller so that the whole poster isn’t completely bombarded with text. I have tried adding shadow but the way the figure is posing doesn't make her look like she is floating. Therefore I will retake the photo.

Improvements made: I have changed the image of the figure and I think now she looks like she is floating. I have taken away the box and it wasn’t clear in the other photo. I think by adding this photo in I am able to make the levitation look much more clear.
Outcome 1
Outcome 1 Brief: To make a movie poster for the film ‘The Cabin in the Woods’s’. This movie is about a mysterious cabin which is situated in the woods. No one has ever been in side un till now.
This is the image that I will be using in order to make my poster background. I have lowered the saturation of the image so that only so of the colours shine through. I have cut a lot of the image out because I really wanted to focus on the door.
Outcome 1 Brief: To make a movie poster for the film ‘The Cabin in the Woods’s’. This movie is about a mysterious cabin which is situated in the woods. No one has ever been in side un till now.
Here I have added in the figure that I have cut out and placed floating above the door. I will now add in more poster aspects which I have will refer to the poster example when doing so.
Outcome 1 Brief: To make a movie poster for the film ‘The Cabin in the Woods’s’. This movie is about a mysterious cabin which is situated in the woods. No one has ever been in side un till now.
I have now added in the poster aspects, at the bottom I have put the movie name and the date it will be released. I have also added where the movie will be showing- IMAX and have added in logos from IMAX and I have made up the logo for Harper house who is presenting the movie. I think that the first outcome really looks like a movie poster and I am very please with it. Referring back to the Narrative project there are many questions to the story that can be asked. For example why is the girl holding a knife? Where is she? Where is the cabin in the woods? Why has not one been inside un till now? Improvements: I should also try adding a shadow here in order to make the girl float. I could also do this by moving the figure higher above the door seal. Changes made: I have moved the figure higher to make her look like she is floating, I did this to make it much clearer. However I think I should add in more affects and try out the shadow.

I have added in more affects to the image and have also added in a shadow to make the girl look like she is floating. I have also made the writing smaller in order to make the effects of the image become clearer. I have taken away the name Ruth Jenny Mann as it is in the text underneath and I didn't want the poster to be too text orientated.
Outcome 2
Outcome 2 Brief: To make a movie bill bored poster
I took this photo in Dubai and I think it works well with the artist Dan Mountford. I think this sky line of the buildings are really affective to use and they express the architecture of Dubai. The image on the right is the figure that I will use for the side profile.
Outcome 2 Brief: To make a movie bill bored poster
I have combined both the buildings and the side profile. I have also added a grey back ground. I think that this piece needs a little more detail as Dan Mountford uses a lot of imagery in his work.
Outcome 2 Brief: To make a movie bill bored poster
I have added in another image that I took from Dubai. I took out a lot of the picture but have left the buildings and added on to the face. I have turned the image on the left in to black and white and have blended it in to the face. I will now add in the features of the bill bored.
Outcome 2 Here are some examples of bill bored posters I could refer to when I am creating mine.
Outcome 2
This is my final outcome 2. I think that the overall layout has worked very well. I think that the spacing is clear and is balanced. The artist uses a clean cut finish in their work and I think that this poster represents that. Looking back the image on the right I think that the image that has been blended in to the face needs a little more work as it doesn’t blend in as much as I would have liked it ot.
Outcome 2
I have blended in the image on the face a lot more and I think this looks a lot more subtle..
Outcome 2
This is the image on a billboard.
